Poor experience at this hotel. First room service argued they had cleaned the room when they had clearly not and it took photographic evidence for staff to believe us. Also discovered that their check in staff charged the full price room as a deposit ($304) but only mentioned charging $70 at check in; this is an issue as the room was prepaid.
The room itself was comfortable and the pool and gym good. But poor and incompetent treatment by staff would put me off choosing to stay here again.
Clean and spacious room with a lovely pool, nice breakfast, friendly service, next to the airport but if you drive, it only takes 10 mins to the Hamilton city centre.
Welcome was good. The reception staff were friendly and accommodated our request for a river facing room. Overall the service was just okay for it's price. For its price, I feel that parking should be included. A limited parking that can be reserved at $36 was offered when I called in a day before as well as a free parking further down the hotel that is not guaranteed. We availed of the additional $36, this includes a valet service. The hotel room design was as expected of Novotel hotels, but it was not up to it's best standard. The remote control and kettle in our room was dusty. Amenities needed to be requested, I did this in advance during booking. But there were no slippers in the room upon arrival except for the 4 towels requested. Breakfast buffet was just the usual fare.
The hotel is a historic resort with a beautiful and natural environment, hot springs, Victorian architectural style, and well-arranged villas and buildings. There are also entertainment and leisure facilities for children. There were no twin rooms when we checked in, so the front desk upgraded us to a family villa and added an electric heater. The service was very thoughtful and meticulous, the room was clean and warm, the bedding was comfortable, and it was a very good stay. I recommend everyone to stay there.
The front desk lady was very nice. We had two rooms to choose from. There is a farm around, with goats, sheep, cows, ostriches, and a pig. One star is given to the pig, who was super friendly and purred as soon as we met. It is a good choice for those who want to see the caves but don't want to drive too far. The only drawback is that there are all kinds of insects in the room. You can only pretend to be blind as there are too many to kill.

The hotel is great. It is a little far from Taupo town, but it is very convenient to drive. The hotel is right by Lake Taupo. When the weather is good, you can see a very beautiful sunset. There are also many ducks and swans.
This was our second stay at Hygate. It's in a great location close to the city. The units are quite spacious, beds are really comfortable and everything else we needed was provided.

MMumtaz MerdjHello,
First of all this is My 3rd booking at this hotel..secondly it's value for money ,very clean ,very spacious inside each rooms ,very presentable, and comfortable beds ..Kitchen was Perfect ,as I needed to boil my tea in a stove top and not electric kettle ,so I loved it because there was stove top ..Microwave just made my dinner, as I bought frozen pizza from pal n save and just cooked it that microwave as it had settings for cooking ..even rice ..but I just had 2 cheese pizzas..So the room which had 4 single beds and one queen bed for $153.00for one night..just enough for me to get up n drive back to NEWPLYMOUTH..
AFTER the 4hrs drive, this room made me so relaxed, so comfy that ,I was wide alert while driving back to NPL.
THE carpark was just in front of my room ..,easy access to my vehicle for grabbing my belongings ..
The service actually was MY BEST experience ..
MANU is like a father to me I mean ..close to my dad's brother's age ..Last booking ,it was him who helped me ,when I needed a room for my husb who was disable due to his recent illness, so Manu had provided us a room ,as requested..down stairs n in front of our parking ..so this booking ,it was him who was ..very polite ,very professional n friendly..I have Been here 3 times ,to reception...Manu is the BEST staff there ...well apart from all this I would like to conclude that from now on..I will continue booking ..at this same hotel . I hope I 🙏 I always get served by the same staff Manu or I always prefer the same room ..4 single beds with one queen..
Thanks for your time ...God 🙏 bless you all .
See again soon ..I wish I could Always book this during the coming summer holidays from now..but I'm pretty sure ...I have to just wait for my commitments .
Thanks
CCleineThis place is a gem. We could have stayed days if we were able to. Fresh, loved, clean and amazing sea views. If you choose this place for a stay try for a ground floor unit and you will have chosen wisely. Walk to main centre and seafront. Good value for money. Very comfy and friendly staff.
GGuest UserThe room is large, there is an oven in the kitchen, but there are fewer kitchen utensils, you need to find it, the landlord is very polite, you need to pay attention to receiving emails after booking, the landlord is contacted by email. In short, good value for money
YYUEIt’s ok, but the only single-storey room is arranged. This is the second booking, because I was staying on the upper and lower floors before I felt good and I would continue to choose this one. After reacting with the store, I still wouldn’t change it. Happy
GGuest UserThe room is nice and well-equipped. There are washing machines in the kitchen. Parking is convenient. It looks a bit old on the outside, but check-in and check-out are both at a motel 1.8 kilometers away. The address is written on the door. Check out at 10:00 in the morning, and call at 9:55 to remind You, the surrounding area is full of such rental apartments. indian clerk in management
GGuest UserI stayed here for three nights and was quite satisfied with all the room facilities, except for the poor sound insulation. I could clearly hear the sound of car engines outside when I was sleeping in the middle of the night. Maybe it was because of the engines of the cars themselves, but it still caused my poor sleep quality. If you are someone who is sensitive to sound and want to stay here, you may want to consider it.
In addition, on the afternoon of the second day of my stay, because there was a ”Do Not Disturb” sign on my room door, the housekeeping staff should not have come in to clean. However, I don't know if one of the housekeeping staff didn't see the sign or for some other reason, but she swiped the card to open the door after knocking on the door three times (I didn't answer the door when she knocked because I was in the bathroom and couldn't respond). At first I thought it was the working habit of people here in New Zealand, but the more I thought about it, the weirder it got. So the next day I happened to meet another housekeeping staff and confirmed with her. She said that if there is a ”Do Not Disturb” sign on the guest's door, they will not open the door to enter, but will only take photos for record. The housekeeping staff was also surprised that this happened, and apologized to me on behalf of the housekeeping staff who opened my door, and said that they would report this matter to their manager again, so apart from these two things, I was quite satisfied with this stay.
GGuest UserThis is the most amazing hotel in our New Zealand trip. Taopo city has a good impression. The hotel is modern in design, the room is very spacious, and the facilities are complete. From the bath to the bedding, they all reflect high-end quality. There is also a swimming pool from low heat. It's a pity that I only stayed for one night. I also want to say that the hotel reception staff is very enthusiastic!
