Clube Maria Luísa was a fantastic choice for our trip with another couple. The rooms were spacious and recently renovated, offering some truly lovely views. Their pizzas were surprisingly good—perfect for a laid-back meal after a day by the pool, at the beach, or exploring the city. The location couldn’t be better, with the beach just a 2-minute walk away and two private pools for when we wanted to stay closer to the apartment. The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful, making our stay even more enjoyable. A special thanks to Sérgio for his kindness and hospitality. It’s a great spot for a relaxing and easygoing holiday—I’d happily recommend it and will definitely come back for summer!

Areias de São João
The problem with this hotel is the management. The hotel is very big and the route sign is not clear. I was lucky to find the room after walking for 30 minutes. And the breakfast information is wrong, the parking information is wrong. These problems should be improved through management, and good results should be obtained.

Free parking behind the hotel, enter the car park next to the McDonald's drive through. Limited spaces. Parking on the pavement will get you a €30 fine. Walking distance to the marina, beach and plenty of restraunts, pubs and some supermarkets. Kitchen in the apartment is an induction cooker, microwave and a kettle. Some cutlery and cooking utensils provided. Buffet breakfast is some cold cuts, cheese, sliced oranges, melons and kiwi fruit, yoghurt, cereals, scrambled, sunny Side up and boiled eggs. Baked beans, saugages, bacon mushrooms and roasted tomato with cheese. Portugese egg tarts, raisin danishes, chocolate rolls, apple turnovers. White bread, wholemeal bread, croissants and some rolls with butter and some jams available. 3 Small lifts they can fit 2 persons with suitcases. Lighting mostly adequate in the rooms amd living area except for the bathroom which was too dark. Nice balcony area. In the evenings, it was cooler to open the doors than rely on the air conditioner.

- Lovely cosy apartment, that looked even nicer and more modern than on the photos. - While not super big, the space has been very cleverly used and it felt like having my own mini home. - Kitchen is well equipped, so you can really use it to cook your own dinner (I just missed a colander to drain rice and vegetables, but I realise it must be impossible to cater for every individual guest's preferences). Enough pots, pans, cutlery, even a corkscrew and dishcloth are provided. No spices, oil or sponge though, so (quite understandably) you need to buy or bring a few things yourself. - Lovely balcony, sunny most of the day and I could even watch the sea from there. - Good location, as long as you're fine being near ”The Strip” (and not so near the old town). Very close to the beach. In a central but quiet location (at least in February, but my guess is that it's just far enough from the Strip to be reasonably quiet in busier months as well). About a 10 minute walk from Santa Eulalia bus stop from where you can take a bus to Faro (and other places on that route, such as Vilamoura and Quarteira). It's about a 40 minute walk to the main bus terminal. There's also a city bus, but I never really worked out that system (taxis are everywhere too and apparently not very expensive either). - Great value for money. I extended my stay by 2 more nights and certainly recommend this place. While I very much enjoyed my stay here, there are a few small things that could possibly still be improved. Those are really just small details though! - I'd suggest putting a few extra bin bags in the apartment. Cleaning takes place every 3 or 4 days, which is totally fine. But especially if guests cook in the apartment, the rubbish contains food rests and starts smelling after a few days. It's no problem to change the bag myself, but having a few extra bags in the room would be helpful. - There's an illuminated ”emergency exit” sign above the apartment's entrance door, on the inside the room. That's really annoying at night, because it's like always keeping one light switched on in your bedroom. Can't those signs be placed outside the room? I ended up covering it with a dark T-shirt every night, which solved the problem too;-) - There's no socket near the bed.

This is the email I have sent to the hotel manager on return to UK, I would stress that the apartments, complex, restaurant and staff are superb, but you can see what spoiled an expensive week for me . Dear Manager   I would like to thank you and all your staff for a lovely stay in your apartments. My husband and I stayed in apartment 211 from the 10th of September for 7 days. The apartment and complex are very pretty and always clean. The food in the restaurant is well priced and excellent quality. However, I would particularly like to thank all your staff from the maids to the receptionists and the restaurants and bar staff. They are all very helpful and very polite and are a credit to your apartments. We would like to thank Ines as she tried to deal with a slightly distressing problem. You may be aware that in the garden area outside room 211 there is an injured seagull. It cannot fly and was killing the smaller birds for food (which was not pleasant to see and hear – I couldn’t sit out on the balcony), it was also distressing to see the seagull struggle for food and water. Ines tried to get the relevant authority to come and collect the bird but they hadn’t turned up when we left. Of course, now with the terrible wildfires they will be even more stretched. I wanted to ask the management if they could look at this situation and try to resolve it , even if it means paying for a vet to attend and take of the seagull. Montechoro
The location is near residential area and is peaceful and quiet. Our room and balcony faces a not very pretty lot but it didn’t matter so much as we weren’t in the room much of the day. The room was clean and the kitchen very well equipped with utensils and appliances. the sofa bed sheets had some hair which was not too pleasant. On one of the mornings, the electricity went out for 30 minutes but luckily it wasn’t too hot at that time. As it was September, the hotel was fairly quiet most of the time although the front desk told us they were fully booked. There were supermarkets nearly so it was convenient to get food and drinks, and there is a couple of very good Portuguese restaurants within walking distance.
Plaza Real by Atlantichotels

Stayed in Plaza real Atlantic Hotel in Portimão 25-29th of October 2024, this was a last minute planned holiday with Work closed for Bank Holiday October. The apartment was lovely inside, cooking facility was perfect, an oven and hob. Have seen nicer views though, the hotel needs refurbishment from outside, and found the beach front would have been a nicer place to stay. The first morning I woke, an individual was spitting phlegm over their balcony. I required about clean towels, and was informed a payment was required for towels, no fresh towels given. No bath stopper, had to use the one in the kitchen sink basin. The chairs on the balcony are unsafe, my partner sat on a chair and while sitting on the chair (all four legs of the chair on the ground) the back of it snapped, we informed the receptionist and he immediately wrote it into the repair and maintance book without asking was my partner 'okay'. I would stay on the beach front in Portimão if I was to go again, but if you want a quiet weekend it is lovely, not for a weeks stay though.
Villas Barrocal

A great apartment with everything you need, really enjoyed our stay here, even so much we extended our holiday by another 12 days 😎, The apartment is very clean, with everything you need for a self catering holiday, The reception staff are very friendly and helpful. There are cleaners who ring door bell everyday and provide clean towels, clean tea towels & toilet rolls if required and mop the floor & empty bins, it's a gated premises with plenty of parking right next to your apartment and it is budget friendly aswell, okay it is November and out of season but weather is still very good 20 degrees and mainly sunny. There is also a laundry service or do it yourself, again very reasonable prices & a pool which all balconies look over, it's got everything and I'm very happy I booked ”Villas Barrocal”. Plus air-conditioning in the living room & bedroom if needed.

Areias de São João
Gorgeous hotel, very close to 2 beaches, walking distance to *****, but not so close that you can hear all the parties! Room was lovely, cocktails very good, staff very friendly & welcoming! Only thing I would comment less that 5/5 is there was almost no vegan options at the breakfast, which was a shame as we had paid for breakfast included and I couldn’t eat much! Anyway other than that amazing hotel, will definitely stay here again!
Mirachoro Portimao

The apartment we had was a 1 bed (sleeps 4) for myself and my two teenagers. From previous reviews I was expecting a bit more. It was clean, staff were a bit hit and miss (a fair bit of eye rolling from one of the older ladies in the bar), but mostly friendly and helpful. Food and drink was ok, reasonably priced but not going to win any awards. My biggest gripe was the uncomfortable beds. Rock hard and so uncomfortable that I ended up with a very bad back. Only one air conditioning unit in the apartment which was in the living room/kitchenette. The pool area had plenty of sun beds and the pool was a decent size. The location is a bit too far to walk anywhere comfortably. There are a couple of supermarkets within a 10 min walk, but of course yiu have to factor in carrying your shopping back - so had to make several trips. The hotel would benefit from having perhaps a small store selling essentials for their guests. The beach is stunning though and lots of bars and restaurants there for those who wish to go a bit further than the hotel. Portimao itself seemed a bit run down, but perhaps that’s just the area where the shuttle bus dropped us off. It was too hot to really do hours of exploring the town, so perhaps I’m doing it a mis-service. The hotel was all in all good value, and great for my very late booking. I don’t think I would revisit though.
