My stay at Roots Hotel in Faro was absolutely delightful, and I can’t recommend it enough. The location is unbeatable—just a short walk to the Marina, the main train station, and the iconic Bone Church, making it the perfect base for exploring the city. Even before check-in, the exceptional service began. The staff kindly offered to store my luggage free of charge, which made my day so much easier. Every staff member I encountered during my stay was incredibly kind, professional, and welcoming—they truly made the experience special. The hotel itself is stunning, with beautifully designed apartments that feel both luxurious and comfortable. My apartment included an amazing balcony area with breathtaking views—it was the perfect spot to relax after a day of exploring. The free coffee available throughout the stay was another lovely touch, and it was genuinely great quality. Breakfast was served from their charming breakfast box for just €10, and it was incredible! Packed with delicious items, it left me completely full and ready for my journey home. Roots Hotel perfectly blends style, comfort, and outstanding service. If you’re planning a trip to Faro, don’t hesitate to book here—I’ll absolutely be back!

This is the email I have sent to the hotel manager on return to UK, I would stress that the apartments, complex, restaurant and staff are superb, but you can see what spoiled an expensive week for me . Dear Manager   I would like to thank you and all your staff for a lovely stay in your apartments. My husband and I stayed in apartment 211 from the 10th of September for 7 days. The apartment and complex are very pretty and always clean. The food in the restaurant is well priced and excellent quality. However, I would particularly like to thank all your staff from the maids to the receptionists and the restaurants and bar staff. They are all very helpful and very polite and are a credit to your apartments. We would like to thank Ines as she tried to deal with a slightly distressing problem. You may be aware that in the garden area outside room 211 there is an injured seagull. It cannot fly and was killing the smaller birds for food (which was not pleasant to see and hear – I couldn’t sit out on the balcony), it was also distressing to see the seagull struggle for food and water. Ines tried to get the relevant authority to come and collect the bird but they hadn’t turned up when we left. Of course, now with the terrible wildfires they will be even more stretched. I wanted to ask the management if they could look at this situation and try to resolve it , even if it means paying for a vet to attend and take of the seagull. Great hotel even better staff reception staff gracia and anna are simply lovely and so good at looking after guests nothing is too much trouble , entertainment is good at hotel pedro is great and he seems to turn any night into a great night. Games room needs some attention especially the pool tables which have had their day please either recover them or replace them as they are impossible to play on and having to pay for them in the condition they are in is ridiculous. Overall a good holiday would reccomend

Just got back from staying here, hotel was nice enough, rooms were really spacious. All the staff were really friendly, one staff member I will mention, Gil was really friendly nothing was too much trouble for him. Ideally located to the ***** just a 10-15 minute walk and a short taxi right to the old town.

Free parking behind the hotel, enter the car park next to the McDonald's drive through. Limited spaces. Parking on the pavement will get you a €30 fine. Walking distance to the marina, beach and plenty of restraunts, pubs and some supermarkets. Kitchen in the apartment is an induction cooker, microwave and a kettle. Some cutlery and cooking utensils provided. Buffet breakfast is some cold cuts, cheese, sliced oranges, melons and kiwi fruit, yoghurt, cereals, scrambled, sunny Side up and boiled eggs. Baked beans, saugages, bacon mushrooms and roasted tomato with cheese. Portugese egg tarts, raisin danishes, chocolate rolls, apple turnovers. White bread, wholemeal bread, croissants and some rolls with butter and some jams available. 3 Small lifts they can fit 2 persons with suitcases. Lighting mostly adequate in the rooms amd living area except for the bathroom which was too dark. Nice balcony area. In the evenings, it was cooler to open the doors than rely on the air conditioner.

Only thing I would comment less that 5/5 is there was almost no vegan options at the breakfast, which was a shame as we had paid for breakfast included and I couldn’t eat much! Anyway other than that amazing hotel, will definitely stay here again!

Just come back from a four night stay at these apartments and I must say they were excellent. Great amenities lovely pool area and very friendly staff. The little on site shop had all we wanted and we ate in the restaurant on our first night and although there was several items unavailable what we had was great. The apartments are very assessable to the beach and there are a few restaurants nearby although some were closed because it was off season. We recommend Just Beef which is in walking distance up the coast, we ate here twice! Would definitely recommend a stay at these apartments and hope to return soon. Thank you

Booked a 3-night twin room to attend a friend's lecture in Lagoa. The hotel, or better, motel is excellent for those on wheels, not for those on foot. If you have disabilities find another town in the Algarve. Some sets of stairs do not have rails, you have to go round the entrance to physically 'get in'. The reception has only 1 staff member when off-season, be prepared and do it all online. Forget questions about taxis, transportation, and restaurant advice is really subjective. The room was very comfortable, the second door to a set of stairs (curled) with direct access to the car park/entry of the hotel area was not. Cold and humidity pass through the doors (front door leading to corridor inside as well), as doors need maintenance. Breakfast is good and varied, for all tastes, except gluten-free options. Internet signal very weak, had to use phone data package. Check-in is only at 4pm. Pro's. besides what I already mentioned: bus terminal 5 min walk, good restaurants each way 5 min walk (one is just next door), supermarket passing the roundabout, beds very comfortable. You can walk to the centre (10 min walk) but the town is without interest, unless you are there for an event, for those on foot, you can stay here and get to know other nearby cities in the Algarve by bus, as the terminal is so close, and it is not expensive to go around by bus.

The hotel is big and has several attractions, from indoor and outdoor pools and animation, gym, playground, all very good. Positive points - impeccable cleanliness, friendliness of staff, hot water, small appliances that were old but worked perfectly, cable TV with several channels. Negative points- the furniture is old, the mattresses are uncomfortable, at the reception I was attended by an inexperienced person and was being charged twice the value of the extra bed, very weak internet, we never managed to get a signal during our stay. A lot to improve for a good comfort of the guests.

Had a fantastic week long stay at this lovely hotel over the Scottish October week. The staff are lovely and friendly, they were happy to help us with things like booking the Zoomarine and booking a taxi - we only got a taxi instead of walking the 10 minute short walk into the Old Town every night due to one of our party having an ankle injury. The hotel was also spotless, a little old fashioned in the room interior but in a classy sort of way. We had a street view room on level 0 and having read other reviews I was worried about the street noise but it was minimal to nothing each night. The cleaning staff were also friendly, and were constantly seen cleaning everywhere. The pool area was stunning, the snack bar was also so good and offered a great variety of choice. We were also there for a big birthday and the staff dropped off a bottle of bubbly for the occasion without being asked which made the day even more special. I could not fault this hotel and having stayed in Albufeira a few times before, this is by far the best hotel I have stayed at and cannot wait to return some time in the future!

Clean hotel with 24hr reception, you will need €150 refundable cash deposit which *********** don't tell you about. Balcony with garden view, kitchenette was well equipped, clean and functional, there was no corkscrew to open wine bottles (Portuguese don't do screw caps) no spatulas or non stick frying pan so fried eggs were a disaster. TV, dining table & chairs and 2 seat sofa bed in lounge. Beds comfortable but bathroom was looking tired, that said shower was hot & powerful. Pool area was lovely with views of garden and the sea, pool was clean and warm. Lots of parking outside, bars, restaurants ATMs and supermarket all within 20 meters. Old Town 10 mins and The Strip 15 mins walking distance. Aldi, Lidl and Pingo Doce all nearby. Would use this hotel again.

Great hotel all i needed, washing machine a bonus and a good base to explore from. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful, Flavia and her lady colleague went beyond sorted a late checkout for me and made sure everything went smooth. Obrigada.

Very Clean, spacious in a great location, breakfast was good, would be nice if there were a few more options.

Modern, clean apartment with everything needed for a comfortable stay. We had daily cleaning of the apartment ”exchange of bath towels, cleaning of counters, floors and garbage collection. Some aspects that could improve, It has no magic wand, toaster, sponges and dishwashing liquid.

We stayed in the Alvor Atlantico Hotel for nearly three weeks and would recommend. We had a Studio Superior, with a Sea View. We were on the 7th floor and the view was absolutely beautiful, we could see all of the beach from the beach at the Atlantida Restaurant to the very end. It was lovely to wake up to. The hotel itself was very quiet, there's no bar, there is an indoor pool, which we didn't use and it was also very clean. The Studio was well equipped with a 2 ring cooker, fridge and plates and cutlery, we had a problem with the cooker and the kettle which was sorted out for us, no problem. We had one rainy day when we didn't fancy going into Alvor, you can book dinner (or breakfast) in the Dom Joao Hotel, which we did for the one night, it was only a 5 minute walk away. It was buffet style but was very good. It's a 20 minute walk into the harbour or centre of Alvor on the boardwalk which was a nice way to start the evening. We will definitely stay here again. The beds were comfortable, a bit hard for my personal liking, the shower was good with plenty of pressure, so all in all would recommend.

The apartment we had was a 1 bed (sleeps 4) for myself and my two teenagers. From previous reviews I was expecting a bit more. It was clean, staff were a bit hit and miss (a fair bit of eye rolling from one of the older ladies in the bar), but mostly friendly and helpful. Food and drink was ok, reasonably priced but not going to win any awards. My biggest gripe was the uncomfortable beds. Rock hard and so uncomfortable that I ended up with a very bad back. Only one air conditioning unit in the apartment which was in the living room/kitchenette. The pool area had plenty of sun beds and the pool was a decent size. The location is a bit too far to walk anywhere comfortably. There are a couple of supermarkets within a 10 min walk, but of course yiu have to factor in carrying your shopping back - so had to make several trips. The hotel would benefit from having perhaps a small store selling essentials for their guests. The beach is stunning though and lots of bars and restaurants there for those who wish to go a bit further than the hotel. Portimao itself seemed a bit run down, but perhaps that’s just the area where the shuttle bus dropped us off. It was too hot to really do hours of exploring the town, so perhaps I’m doing it a mis-service. The hotel was all in all good value, and great for my very late booking. I don’t think I would revisit though.

The fact that not check in/out is very uncomfortable. It is not hotel, don't call hotel, it's rooms in a building. I want to know if the costs caused by this voices return. After all, it's all perfect location, comfort, at last. I hope they will tell the passengers the first address that we should not go back.

Best location in town with 2-minute walk to the beach front, south balcony view, with nearby Pão Quente supermarket and restaurants. Frequent house keeping and tidy building. Free gated parking. Will be back!

Have been coming here for years, and every year keeps getting better. Staff are always there to help. Ideally located 3 mins to the beach. 10 mins walk to bars and restaurants. 10 mins taxi ride to Alvour 1 hour from Faro Airport. We always do self-catering, but you can also do all-inclusive. Big dining area catering for all tastes.

This was our second stay at The Pelican. It has a lot going for it but a couple of minor issues. The location was great for us, a 15 minute walk to Alvor, under 10 minutes to the Pingo supermarket and 5 minutes from The Jolly (a pub we made our own and knew the owner from last year). The reception and bar staff in Pelican were excellent and very friendly. The food in the bar was good and reasonably priced. The room was the same as last year and an excellent size, a TV you can swivel round to watch in bed and an excellent little kitchen with everything we needed. Our issues were with the quality of the daily cleaning, it was poor. The floor wasn't mopped and our feet ended up filthy (which then gets transferred to the bed) or in my case had white socks that were black underneath. There was a general lack of care which was a real shame as the main areas of the hotel were constantly cleaned. Also our bin under the sink wasn't emptied at least 3 times and we took to leaving the rubbish bag out to ensure it was taken. This year there was entertainment from 5 until 7 one evening on the terrace, this was well received and maybe the management should do more of this in future. The hotel WiFi was patchy at best and our phones kept being disconnected. The pool area is pretty good but could do with a bit of TLC, too often we struggled to get a lounger while others were ”reserved” by people who never returned for 2 to 3 hours. A few more loungers wouldn't go amiss or a regular check to remove towels when the loungers aren't used for long periods. We will definitely return if the standard of cleaning improves as this is an excellent hotel with bags of potential and friendly staff.

The apartment is easy to find, the environment is quite good, the room is large enough, the facilities are complete, the sanitary conditions are very good, and glass bottles of water and fruits are provided. Overall very satisfied. The only slightly inconvenient thing is that we need to call the store in advance to get the password to enter the apartment and room. Maybe it's because we arrived a little late.

Spacious apartment but with some shortcomings. Bathroom a bit small compared to the size of the apartment. There are no closets to put your stuff. In case of a stay for more than one night, I imagine there may be difficulties in settling down. Not exactly impeccable cleaning. Check-in takes place in a nearby facility and it would be better to provide the exact address of where to go already when booking. Quiet and we were able to park the car nearby; perhaps in high season the matter becomes more complicated. Value for money compared to many other hotels visited in the Algarve during the trip not very good but Faro is quite expensive to stay in hotels. Very good location for visiting the city.
