This was our 4th visit to Elounda Village, we had seen lots of negative comments about restaurant closures and lack of choices to dine, mostly at night. We contacted the hotel before our arrival and were promised our stay would be the usual we had come to love so much. And, whilst all outlets were open during our stay the menus on the all inclusive are severely restricted (€15 for a burger!), the food however is fantastic in the a la carte restaurants, notably Symposium. Upon arrival, we had been given an complimentary upgrade to a fantastic private pool room, however this wasn’t ready for 3 hours after we arrived (past 5:30pm when we finally got into the room). This did spoil the first day. The buffet restaurant is extremely repetitive, with the same dishes served night after night, with half the items not labelled at all! Worth noting, the food was tepid at best and mostly cold. We also experienced unacceptable wait times in the Beach and Lobby bar for drinks to arrive once ordered (45 minutes for a milkshake!) and one time over half an hour for 1 simple cocktail, we gave up and left, going to the Mini Mart to purchase a drink instead. Zia, Jimmy and Eleni are FANTASTIC, they are however overworked and plagued by new staff who simply do not know what they are doing. Joanna in the bars is simply out of her depth and frankly useless. We raised our concerns to guest relations, who at first didn’t seem to care at all! Mariana (I believe, is not in the correct role!) after complaining again, on another occasion, Thomas from reception dealt with us in a much more friendly manner and apologised and acknowledged the concerns. We then met the Food and Beverage Manager, who was extremely understanding and apologetic. He even arranged for a private dining experience to attempt to compensate. However, upon having this meal, the steak was massively overcooked, service poor and we felt forgotten about in the corner. Upon checking out, they even tried to charge us for the “complimentary” room upgrade. I’m afraid we simply will not be back, you have lost your magic, personal touch and service.
