Our stay was one of the most authentic Japanese experiences we have ever had. The ryokan is from the Edo period, with beautiful enclosed verandas, fabulous hot spring baths and amazing food. Our room overlooked one of the most beautiful Japanese gardens we have seen, complete with an abundance of cherry blossoms. The room at self was Japanese style, and quite basic, adding to the overall experience. The rooms do not have a shower, this is all done , in the true Japanese style, in the onsen - we loved it!

A distinctive traditional building set deep in the forested entrance to the Higashiyama onsen. No lift/elevator, and many rooms can be accessed only by flights of steep polished hardwood stairs. No rutemburo, meals served in your room. The city loop bus stops about 100m away.

Mukaitaki is a magnificent old building set deep in a wooded valley at the southern end of the Higashiyama onsen district. The city tour loop bus from the station stops outside. It is a formal ryokan, traditional, with kaiseki meals served in your room. Rooms are accessed by steep and sometimes multiple stairways of polished hardwood. Service was friendly, but little English is spoken, and the meals were disappointing. 3 small onsen available - no rotemburo.

Mukaitaki is famous as the number one inn in the Tohoku region since ancient times, rather than being the representative of Aizu Higashiyama Onsen. It is a cultural property inn that is well maintained every day, and is a great inn with great hot springs, great food, and great customer service. The atmosphere of the Fox Bath is wonderful. The Saru Bath and the three private baths are also great. It is no wonder that this is a famous hot spring from the Edo period. The food is a variety of Aizu local dishes, and is enjoyable. The food is served in the rooms, and the atmosphere of the entire inn and the courtyard is very nice. This inn is great, including its history. I recommend it.

A ryokan that I longed for after seeing the scenery of the building in a hot spring book. Many celebrities have stayed at the hotel, and the building is registered as a registered tangible cultural property, so I thought it would be unrelated to me. We stayed at a reasonable price. First of all, the employees and their service are impeccable. No matter what kind of hot springs you go to, most of them are foreigners now, but this is only Japanese, probably because of the hotel's policy. (It's not that foreigners are bad...) It was snowing before we arrived, but the car was cleared of snow when we checked out. Mr. Nakai was also a young child, but he was a wonderful person with a warm smile. The hot spring is also hot because the famous hot spring (kitsuneyu) is located near the source, and the further away you are from it, the colder the temperature becomes and the easier it is to enter. There is no reservation system for the private baths, and you can use them freely if they are available. (The size is just right for 1 or 2 people.) The large public bath (Saru no Yu) is not an open-air bath because the water temperature is just right (does it feel warm in winter?), but you can take your time in it for a long time. All of the baths have bissiri hot spring ingredients attached to the spout, and the amount of hot water is abundant and luxurious. The water is clear, colorless, and odorless, but it is rich in sodium, so it is very fresh and does not get cold easily, making it a wonderful hot spring. There are not many dishes, but there are many dishes with gentle seasoning that prioritizes the taste of the ingredients, with many local ingredients. Sea fish sashimi does not come out, and it feels like it's expected. The only drawback is that there are not many side dishes that make the rice go smoothly at breakfast. The atmosphere of the building, meticulous cleaning, shiny corridors and a wonderful courtyard, etc... Anyway, it was a perfect ryokan in every aspect. My husband and I are not interested in luxury hotels and ryokan, and we choose inns for hot springs, but this was the best ryokan in the past with a wonderful building and service. As expected, I definitely want to stay here again even without travel support! Next time I would like to stay in a different room with a view of the courtyard.

A long-established inn that used to be a resort for the Aizu clan. It has a high formality and a great atmosphere. There are three baths: Kitsuneyu, Saruyu, and family baths. The kitsuneyu is really hot and you need to be enthusiastic to enter. The food was kaiseki with carp dishes as the main dish. Carp are rare. But the old-fashioned room meal is nice. The staff are still kind and friendly as they are from a long-established store, but they are impeccable. The price is quite high, but it was an inn that I wanted to wear again and again.

We recommend staying in a room facing the garden. I think the best times are autumn leaves and fireflies in June. Kanroni carp is very filling, so if you don't like it, you may want to take it home. The bath at the entrance ① is hot. It's around 47°C. The innermost part is warm and suitable for those who want to stay for a long time.
