So delighted to stay in this traditional old school bed and breakfast. Rhonda and Wal were gracious hosts and great cooks. A full cooked breakfast is included along with complimentary fruit, tea and coffee throughout the day. A glass of wine or beer is complimentary at a time of your choosing during your stay. We stayed in Onawe room which has very sloping ceilings, so if you’re average height or tall, you’d probably be better in a different room. We’re shorties, so was fine for us. Parking is on the street or in driveway behind, and was never an issue. Location is in the quieter end of town but an easy flat walk to everything. Really enjoyed our stay here.

I stayed at the French Bay House in Akaroa in May of 2024 and it was absolutely delightful! I was so charmed and so well taken care of by the inn keeper, the owner, the facilities and the food, I was thoroughly impressed! I was traveling by myself and they were so warm, hospitable, friendly, respectful and caring - I cannot wait to come back! The room I had was spacious and comfortable, and the location was very convenient! I was able to walk everywhere safely and easily. Overall, I cannot recommend the French Bay House, the people and the town enough! Hands down, five stars!

Beautiful old 19th century bed and breakfast. It is in the heart of Akoroa so that you can walk everywhere. The rooms are small (as they would be with an older home) but beautifully decorated and comfortable. Wal, Rhonda & son Tom welcome are a joy to be with and are a wealth of information about the town and surrounding peninsula. My husband enjoyed talking to Tom about cricket. Breakfasts are delicious and very filling. The gardens are beautiful as well. Rhonda will provide you with many places to walk so that you can see the entire town. Many thanks to Rhonda for recommending Caldera as a special place for dinner.

This is a really beautifully kept late 19th century French-style cottage in the heart of Akaroa. Wal and Tom provide a lovely warm welcome and amazing breakfasts. The room was very comfortable and surprisingly easy to cool even with sun beating down. And Akaroa is a super place- just wish we’d had more time there. Sitting in the porch was a real treat.

Charming historic house with very friendly owners, who made you feel very welcome. We only had one night here, but the breakfast was excellent in the morning. Our room was small, limited space to put anything, no TV and the tea/coffee station is in the dining room. If you are tall, then ask for a room without a sloping ceiling. Lovely garden and right in the heart of Akaroa. Brilliant local museum to visit close by. The last part of the road from Christchurch (State Highway 75) is twisty and up and down with lots of bends - take your time if you are a nervous

Exceptional B&B in Akaroa, New Zealand, we stayed here for 2 nights whilst touring the South Island. The accommodation is full of character & very cosy. The hosts Wal, Rhonda & son Tom are very friendly & nothing is a problem to them. The cooked breakfast is one of the best I’ve eaten & the fresh fruit with homemade granola is very tasty. The location is in easy walking distance of the harbour front & restaurants. Don’t be put off by the fact it’s a B&B as opposed to a hotel, I’d highly recommend this place and would definitely stop here again … 5 star rating in my opinion 👏👏😀👍

We felt right at home. They had a beautiful fire for us when we arrived. Truly an amazing place to stay!

A great place to stay, full of character and very relaxing. Great location , comfortable rooms, very good (but not superb) breakfasts, well stocked honesty bar and the only place that offered us a welcome drink on arrival. And don’t miss a walk in the Garden of Tain just up the road.
