I would have rated higher since the beginning of our stay was pleasant, though the last handful of interactions completely soured that. The waitstaff was awesome- especially Afeni- and the manager Josh even offered an extra night stay on the house since I had been holed up in our room recovering from a bad lip infection.Unfortunately we couldn’t switch our flights. Then on our second to last night a tile fell off our bathroom counter. I got a staff member to come see to it, as you would if anything in your room broke down. Mark came, took a photo, and was going to leave until we suggested he take the broken tile out of the room- no sweeping or clean up of the broken shards. We had a relaxing last day and got our final bill at dinner with a $450+ American dollars charge for the tile. My partner went to discuss this charge and Mark said that I had a bloody lip (I did not, lips healing from said infection) and implied that my partner gave me the bloody lip and somehow that was also the cause of the tile falling off. We were told we could speak with manager Josh in the morning. We go to check out and it’s Mark again- not Josh- repeating his insinuations that my partner had given me a bloody lip and it’s somehow also proof of the tile being our fault. He said we had to pay or we would be detained by the police, while also saying HE in fact was “an officer of the law” (??) We ended up paying the absurd $450+ charge for 1 broken tile, and he still called the police- who seemingly had a lot more questions about his actions than ours.. The whole situation was an absolute failure of management, insulting insinuations, and then blaming the guests for their own poor handiwork. Be warned- If you stay here, cross your fingers that your room doesn’t fall apart because they will nickel and dime you for all the fancy materials they decide to import from out of the country. Owners/management refuse to take any responsibility and are defensive (as I’m sure we’ll see in their response to this review) nor take any ownership when it comes to their own mistakes.
