We have been staying here for over 12 years, often twice a year and the reason we keep returning is simple, its Outstanding! We wouldn't consider anywhere else in Ambleside. Everything from the overall welcome, the fabulous decor, spotlessly clean rooms, to the BEST breakfast is faultless. The location is also a plus point as only a few minutes walk to the many shops, pubs and restaurants that Ambleside has to offer. It is run to a very high standard and Lucy and Matthew are the perfect hosts.

My wife and I had an excellent stay at the Elder Grove Guest House a little later in the season then when we came last year. The locally sourced food that make up the breakfasts from Lucy and the tips on places to eat locally and the humour of Matt are always appreciated. Thank you Matt & Lucy and Joy and I hope to be back next year.

Fantastic! Immaculate rooms, everywhere sparkling clean and a great choice of teas/coffees supplied. The full ‘Cumbrian’ breakfast is probably the best B&B breakfast I’ve ever had (and I’ve had a few), all local produce and it shows. Will certainly visit again and highly recommend. The hotel was lovely. Staff very friendly. Our room was comfortable and clean, with everything required for a short stay. Plenty of cupboard and drawer space. Nice toiletries and a hair dryer supplied. Well situated for walking trails as well as the bars and restaurants in Ambleside. The breakfast was freshly cooked to order with a good selection of cereals etc for a lighter choice. Free parking at the hotel was good.

Elder Grove came into new management 4 weeks ago and Giles and Andrea have certainly hit the ground running. The room was bright, comfortable, nicely decorated, and absolutely spotless while the breakfast was plentiful and delicious, made using quality ingredients. Giles and Andrea are wonderful hosts, friendly enough to chat over breakfast but not at all intrusive. The parking spaces themselves can be a bit tricky but still ideal to have free, offroad parking. Elder Grove is a very short walk from Ambleside Centre so you can drop the car and easily explore. Overall a very pleasant, restful stay. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend or book again.

We stayed for 2 nights last week, for the first time, and couldn't be happier with our choice of accommodation. Elder Grove is ideally located, close enough to the town centre, but far enough to be quiet. Our room was on the top floor and was excellent, with quality tea, coffee, chocolate, etc., extra blanket, fan heater for use if required, (it wasn't), hair dryer etc. Spotlessly clean and possibly recently refurbished, bathroom was faultless. Hosts were very welcoming, (despite us being later than planned arriving!), and breakfasts were excellent, with a good variety of options available, and the cooked options were delicious. (They even made minor adjustments to the menu for some people when requests were made - they could not have been more helpful). All in all, a very pleasant stay, and we will be returning next time we are back in Ambleside.

We booked 4 nights at Elder Grove also booking a room for my parents at the same time. The lounge room meant that we could get together at the end of the day and have a coffee which we’d made in our respective rooms. Wish we’d had time to make use of the honesty bar and relax in that room too! Elder Grove was clean and comfortable and located close to the town cte and bus interchange. The free parking on site meant we parked the car up and used the good bus service to get around the lakes. Giles and Andrea were friendly, approachable and helpful. Andrea’s service and Giles’ cooking were a great combination at breakfast, cannot praise them highly enough, they created a family friendly atmosphere, felt like home but with a far better breakfast!

Stayed at Elder Lodge for one night as a base for some Wainwright bagging, Matthew & Lucy have recently taken over, but you wouldn’t think so, check in was nice and easy and informative, I was in room 7, spotlessly clean, well stocked drinks tray, good shower. Breakfast was excellent, really good quality ingredients on the cooked breakfast and all the usual juices, coffee, yoghurt etc, kept me going on my long walk later that day. Matthew & Lucy are great hosts and I’m sure will do very well, I will use Elder Grove again.
