We stayed here for a couple of nights when we first arrived in Madagascar. It's a beautiful hotel as others have said, with an astonishing array of antiques and artifacts. Our room, a deluxe, was large with a king size bed, a mini fridge and a huge bathroom. Like almost everywhere we went in Madagascar, the mosquitoes ruled, but that's hardly the fault of the hotel; efficient insecticide spray was provided. The restaurant was pricey by Malagasy standards but the food was good. Well, except for the Zebu steak which my husband had the first night; supposedly fillet, it was very tough. We saw someone else eating it the next day and it looked as though they found it tough too; they were sawing through it! But in fairness I have to say that we ate 2 dinners, one lunch and a breakfast there and everything else was delicious. All the staff (reception, housekeeping and restaurant) were efficient and friendly. We have 4 nights in Antananarivo at the end of our Madagascar holiday and we have booked to return to La Varangue; I can hardly give a better endorsement.
