Klein-Aus Vista Desert Horse Inn

We had a great time camping here. This is apparently one of the best places to connect with Barlow's lark so I'll have to come back and try again. Campsites nicely shaded under Camelthorn trees and bathrooms neat and tidy. Took a day trip to Kolmanskop and Lüderitz and saw the wild horses on the way back.

Had to visit the main lodge to check in as we were staying in the Eagles Nest Chalets which are located 7kms away. The receptionist was very friendly and welcoming. The lodge has a lovely bar/ restaurant , curios shop, swimming pool and the shops sells a few supplies . They have both chalets and a camp site next to the main lodge but all guests can access the facilities. They offer a wonderful braai pack that you can order from a menu selection , which they pack up in basket ready for you to take to your accommodation to cook. The portions sizes are huge, ours lasted us 2 nights . We visited the main lodge every morning for breakfast and they had a good selection of cold items, some items they cooked to order and a range of home baked goods. It was my husbands 60th birthday whist we were there and I ordered a cake from the main lodge. We stopped off for coffee on the way back from a day trip and the staff brought it out for us . It was meant to be a small cake for two but it was huge! We ate it for several days afterwards , a great car snack whilst travelling . They also gave my husband a bottle of bubble and some birthday balloons

The campsites are rustic without electricity but were clean and well maintained and the ablution facility was clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The only drawback for us, was the campsite allocated to us. We had a large communal nest in the tree of our campsite, which made it difficult to operate without getting droppings on your food, vehicles and camping gear.

We stayed here for 2 nights, in a Desert Horse Inn room (a semi-detached cabin with balcony and indoor seating area. (NB The drive here from Sossusvlei is through some lovely scenery; do take the D707 loop if you have time). The Desert Horse Inn has cabins and a separate camping area. Wifi is only in the main building, where breakfast and dinner are served, and there is a pool. The food is very good. There are a number of walks from the site; we took the Vista Trail which led up to a fabulous viewpoint over the plains looking to the west, with an amazing sunset. We visited Luderitz on our middle day, an hour or so on a fast road (past a viewing point for the "wild" horses).

We travelled to the beautiful country of Namibia, for the first time. The whole family, Grandma and Grandpa also came along. We rented an RV in Cape Town and travelled 4472km through the dessert. What an absolutely beautiful country Namibia is. We picked the right month and had the best time at Klein-Aus-Vista. We will definitely be back. We saw the wild horses! Gondwana group sure did make our visit extra special. Thank you so much.

This Gondwana Lodge is one of the best! Everything was just perfect. The food, the rooms, staff and activities.
