The Dukuh Retreat

What an amazing experience we had at the Dukuh retreat! In a small piece of paradise, we stepped back in time and experienced real Bali next to amazing local people! They were so sincere, friendly and helpful! Wayan and his lovely wife, together with their amazing staff, made our stay the best experience in Bali. I will not go into more detail just because it is worth the visit! 10 / 10 !!!!

The resort itself is stunning, rustic yet beautiful, rooms with a gorgeous comfortable bed and great air con. The pool was an added bonus and I enjoyed the one yoga/meditation class that I attended. The meals were basic yet nutritious and the juices were lovely. There however my compliments cease…on arrival I was given my schedule, no choice, no discussion. My activity that day was a visit to the Sing Sing Waterfall, a 40 minute drive with Wayan and then steep steps down and up, a moderate fitness level would be needed. After my 8.00-9.30am yoga class there was nothing to do until my scheduled 4.00pm Sharman visit and what was to be a 5.00 massage. There was only one other guest while I was there and I don’t know if that’s why there was no choice in activities. Regretfully, I got Bali belly and returned from the Sharman visit unwell. The staff were great while I was unwell asking if I needed a doctor etc…I left the following day. My review would read the same if I had not got sick…the lack of activity choices, very remote area so nowhere to go or anything to do, and very basic nutrition left me unsatisfied particularly for the cost.

This was my very first stop in Bali and the bar was set really high! Located in the cosiest little village that was still beautifully decorated following a ceremony that took place earlier that month, the property was simply a museum! With a huge garden and so many plants I had no idea existed.. When it comes to the accommodation itself, I loved how comfortable the bed was and I must say there were the best towels I had ever had in a hotel (honestly superior to any of the 5star places I've been to). One has to take into account that you are surrounded by nature, so be gentle to geckos and don't freak out when the quire stats its nightly performance :) Other than that, the swimming pool was delightful, I had a retreat package so I also had yoga classes every morning. Couldn't have imagined a better intro to my Bali trip! Komang and her staff were absolutely amazing, the love and care they showered me with for the duration of two nights (both of which I was still recovering from lack of sleep and jatlag) was out of this world. The food was delicious, home made with fresh and tasty ingredients, my belly was eternally grateful. Most of all, I had the best time with the ladies who work there - from traditional balinese dancing to Lithuanian folk dancing, we all shed a tear when I had to leave. I hope to be back at some point because this place is beyond special and I will cherish the memories forever. Suksma, aciu!

Absolutely wonderful staff - so attentive, helpful and caring. Everything we needed they arranged - food, taxi, massages. So positive and friendly. Loved it. Really peaceful stay at DUKUH, highly recommend.

We had such a wonderful time! Absolute bliss and joy for me and my kids! They enjoyed it so much and we were overjoyed with the hospitality and kindness of the staff and local people. Felt such a positive, warm and happy vibe during my week there! Will definitely return!

Had a wonderful time at the Dukuh retreat. The rooms were well looked after and the activities so well run. The hosts were fantastic and so welcoming, also the food was perfect! Was here for a 5 day all inclusive spa/surf retreat and would recommend.
