My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights and we really liked it! The hostal is simpel and has everything you need. We loved the authentic vibe, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful and the location is perfect for hiking and kayaking! Would absolutely recommend this is you are looking for a local place to stay and you are on a budget :)

Bastimentos itself is a horrible filthy litter strewn hovel with everything way overpriced and totally not worth visiting the only thing that made it bearable was the accommodation. After reading great reviews about the island we booked 4 nights (3 too many) the hostal has a great communal area, wifi was good and 2 well equipped kitchens and your right on the sea front. We thought we could walk everywhere but, most trails are unsafe to do because of crime (so all the locals tell you) so every trip involves overpriced water taxis, I would recommend the hostal, its great, not the island its awful

This is a family hostel, which is right next to another one called Green Coast that is owned by the same owners. I was trying to get in touch with them via email and phone so they could come pick me up on Isla Colón since they were offering a price of $4 to be a guest; I never got a response. I stayed in a private room with a fan and a private bathroom (very small and without a door, it had a curtain). The shower only had cold water, which was appreciated because it was very hot. All the water from the taps goes directly to the sea and everything that comes with it (soap, food remains...) I mention this because then you see very nice signs around the island saying not to get the island dirty when the first to dirty it are the island itself. Local people. Anyway, I continue with my review. My room was right next to the reception and you could hear all the noise of the glasses. The hostel had a shared-use kitchen in which the utensils (pots, pans...) urgently needed replacing as they were very damaged and the food was sticking despite cooking with oil. The worst of all was that I did the famous Cayo Zapatilla tour with them and I felt totally scammed. I got the boatman/“guide” named Andrew. We were 8 people to do the tour but apparently, for it to be profitable, the optimal thing is for there to be 10 people. Overall, Andrew took us to Bastimentos Bay to see the dolphins... we stayed longer than we should have since Andrew wanted 2 more tourists until they joined and we continued the tour. We arrived at the Coral Cay snorkeling area, which apart from all the boats being in a circle and the tourists there swimming in circles, snorkeling in a dead coral and with 4 fish counted. The snorkeling was 20 minutes long, since we arrived late because our dear guide was entertained by the dolphins. Then we went to see the sloths... we saw one from a distance but the boy had little desire to work that day or what do I know, but he didn't even deign to go a little further into the mangroves or explain to us well how I saw that another boat made it. Well, let's continue... then we went to the Coral Key restaurant in case you want to order food there (no, food is not included in the tour) and then we went to the famous Zapatilla Island or rather, Guirilandia Island. Full of tourists... very disappointing, I understand that it is a tourist place, but they would have to consider doing the route differently so as not to find us all at the same time in the same place. Well, Andrew left us there for 2 hours and then we went to the Cayo Coral restaurant. Yes, it happens to you like me that you are on a budget and you don't feel like spending a fortune on a meal there, you put up with it and you have to go anyway instead of They leave you on Isla Zapatilla to enjoy more. After 2 hours there we left. After the group of 4 tourists finished eating, we headed back to the hostel but not before seeing starfish from the boat… Anyway, $30 wasted in the trash.
