Lovely Homely B&B crisp clean linen, plush carpet underfoot, Bathroom/Bedroom were both bright airy and the whole place was spotlessly clean. Decor was fresh Breakfast was excellent. Cooked Scottish breakfast with a selection of cereals, fresh fruits, yoghurts, Juice and toast with slabs of butter. Ample off-road parking and ideally located to explore Edinburgh which is a short drive or hop on a train at Bathgate. Mary and Donald were excellent hosts. Cannot wait to visit again.

The hotel was nice. We arrived on a Friday evening when there was a huge event taking place at the house. Check-in was quick and easy. Rooms were clean just a bit warm. Fortunately, we had a fan in the room. Beds were very comfy. Dinner at the restaurant was ok, nothing fancy but fine for the price. However, staff is in dire need of training. Not one single waitress/waiter was able to smile. They spoke very fast and slurred and we had to wave them to come back for further orders. When we ordered the bill, something went wrong with the card and they just walked away, mumbling something we could not understand. After 10 minutes they still did not get back to us so we had to catch them at the bar in order to clarify what happened. Turned out the card was declined and they did not make any efforts in letting us know. Which left us with a very strange feeling. Breakfast was the same, staff was not able to smile or at least look friendly. It all felt like it was a shame that they had to work. Not sure what the reason is for that as they treated all guests the same way. The next morning we were sitting in the breakfast area with the sun blinding us so we asked them to pull down the blinds but they told us they were just facade. Breakfast buffet was very poor: Kellogs cereal bags (the small ones) 3 bananas, 2 old apples and some grapes.

We found the Hotel clean and tidy, the staff friendly and helpful. During our stay we purchased breakfast each morning - the food was well presented, looked fresh and was plentiful. The staff in the breakfast area were extremely helpful so this part of our stay is rated as excellent. Unfortunately our stay was let down by other factors. We were generally disappointed with our Premier Plus room. Our visit was for 2 persons for 11 nights - therefore its reasonable to assume we would have two suitcases but, in my opinion, there is very little floor area to store luggage. also practically zero shelves / drawers for emptying basic items from our suitcases. A light on a steel tri-pod with 40cm shade plus a long heavy bench situated along the bottom of the bed walking area seems to be more important than storage facilities. The bathroom, again in my opinion, is very nice but lacks practicality - no handrail to assist in getting in/out of shower cubical or for use whilst having a shower. The small shower door opens outwards allowing water to drain onto the floor when leaving the the shower and the towels stay damp as I think the towel rail is basically useless for 2 small and 2 large towels. The distance between the end of the bed and the large bench seat is approximately 50 cm and whilst walking past the end of bed, especially at night, if your not extremely careful, your toes hit the metal casters which protrude from the metal bed frame - again in my opinion this could possibly be classed as a hazard area. Bruised toes can be quite painful. Other similar hotel chains seem to have the bed supported well within the contours of the unit. Parking for Blue Badge holders is a problem - I think there is only 4 spaces which seems to be a low percentage in relation to the number of guest rooms. I was only able to park using our Badge 3 nights out of our 11 night stay due to spaces being taken up by Non- Blue Badge holders. Although the Hotel has signs requesting guests report the problem to the reception I really think the Hotel management should enforce the rules, rather than requesting the guest to do so. Hoping the comment's are taken as constructive and maybe room features for a longer stay, not just 1 or 2 nights, could be considered. I'm sure in my opinion a rating of 5 stars rating could then be achieved.
