"went for quiet weekend at the end of Jan, hotel was quiet busy, we booked a premier + room and it was fab, quiet location always excellent sleep quality etc. brekkie was fab, only 5 mins walk to Bewick centre. a good centre for exploring the area. there's no on site parking but just drive past hotel through the arch and it free parking, result! will def go back to this hotel."

"The staff were friendly ad helpful, though we weren’t able to check in until the full party of 7 cyclists had arrived. We had 2 bunk rooms booked, both rooms were clean and tidy though very warm even with the windows open. There was a communal lounge and kitchen for guest use, or you could eat in the cafe. We had breakfast, which included cereals, a wide selection of fruit and yoghurt as well as a full English breakfast. You had to order the night before, but the quality of the cooked breakfast was excellent. All in all an excellent budget venue that suited our needs perfectly."

"Located on edge of town next to railway station. Nice hotel with friendly staff. A really nice bar to have drinks in. Breakfast area ticks all the boxes, nicely cooked. . 👍🏻 Rooms are clean with tea/coffee facilities and complimentary bottles of water. The room floor slopes slightly which caused a few 'staggers' Defo go back."

"I found this place last year via looking at Google maps for a nice place to stay near Berwick-upon-Tweed. We struck gold, set in 2 acres of grounds, lovely old church next door.You get a magnificent view of the cheivert hills , just take a 1 minute walk past the Gables and right in front of you is a wonderious vista. Angus left us some cake and tea for when we arrived very nice gesture. Our room was fabulous great furniture and I mean great wonderful view, lovely bathroom, bed linen was superb. We had a wonderful rest here, slept really well. The breakfast was great quality , the atmosphere was outstanding, I could go on for ever......The even better thing about staying here is you host Angus, wonderful man, very interesting and so easy to get along with.....we only had a quick visit to the area but we will be back here to visit sometime and the only place we will stay at is The Gables....Thanks for a great time...."

"Worst place to stay! Never had one this bad in all my years travelling around the UK & Europe! To start: the front door did not close properly and many guests left it open so any unscrupulous person could enter. We had 2 rooms.... The small single was adequate but the coffee cups were dirty and there were no amenities, not even handwash and just ONE toilet roll☹️ The double room did have handwash and again - ONE toilet roll for 2 people for 3 days. The key code worked to enter but then did not lock again so the room stayed unlocked for the next 2 days which made us all very anxious and unable to relax whether in there or out exploring the area. On the last morning we went out for breakfast at 8.30 planning to return and check out before 10.30 - the stipulated checkout time. At 9.45 when we tried to enter - the door codes had changed preventing us from entering!!! Thankfully someone answered the call and we obtained the new codes. The rooms themselves were shoddily put together with uneven carpet and holes in the bathroom lino as well as paint droppins everywhere. The smoke alarm was stuck together with tape. One cupboard was placed covering a window and it was difficult to enter the shower as the wash basin was in the way!!!"

"We had a really good stay. Our evening meal was good and we enjoyed the bar. Staff were friendly, and prices not too bad. Our room was comfortable. But the breakfast in the morning was the highlight of the trip. I think this was the best full English I've ever had and I'm 75. I'll be back"

"The location is good, the transportation is quite convenient, it is located on the seaside, and it is pleasant to walk along the beach. The town has nice scenery and there are castle ruins. I went up to see them. The breakfast is good, but I forgot to take pictures of the interior."

"Love the breakfast; and the size of room and attached bathroom. Room cleaninless can be further improved upon (e.g. fallen insects on window sills, dusty fan etc.). Amenities would have been better if there is greater public indoor area (e.g. restaurant/pub area) that is more open/flexible for guests to retreat to over extended hours (e.g. for usage of public wifi to connect to internet). Overall, it's a convenient site for a good night's rest!"
