"Originally a mansion for a mining baron, the building fell into disrepair until an architect purchased and restored it. The mansion is absolutely beautiful and full of history and antiques. I shared the “Enchanting Turret” room with my older sister. The beds were far enough away that we were afforded ample privacy. The owner, Sheila, lives on the grounds and was a gracious host, offering both hospitality and valued advice about the area. On top of everything, it’s in a great area close to both restaurants and the airport. I give this establishment my highest recommendation."

The Painted Lady will soon arrive to Birmingham with our 22-room and suite boutique hotel, occupying the old Eyer-Raden Building in the Automotive Historic District. Legend has it that the “Louise Curtis” who operated a “boarding house” in the upper floors of this building was Louise C. Wooster, sex worker and brothel owner turned local celebrity when her selfless work as a nurse in the city’s cholera wards went public in the 1870’s.
"The location, facilities, parking, etc. were all fun, and the breakfast was neat. It was in the middle of the city, so the accessibility was good and overall good. I am willing to visit again next time."

SSupergeSSStayed there one night
Doors were locked and entrance is on the back door
You take a shower and there is yes a shampoo! And the second bottle you think is body wash… no body cream! Well you are in the shower already! After shower you want to brush your teeth right?
Wrong! There no such a toothbrush nor toothpaste, well … after you look everywhere you see a sticker in the bathroom in small writing that says it you need any toiletries such as toothpaste toothbrush shower cup … you should go to the front desk and ask for what you need!
So I’m naked just came out from the shower already mad for not finding the body wash…. And now I need to go downstairs to the front desk naked to get the toothbrush?

Very Good
GGuest UserThe hotel was clean and in a great location for the reason I was in Birmingham. It was near to the event that I was attending. The sink in my room had a stopper that prevented the water from escaping when I did not want it to collect in the sink during activities such as brushing my teeth and washing my face. The water was also cold and took an excessively long time to heat up even a little bit. It was not even lukewarm. Therefore, I checked out and was unable to shower. My son actually took a cold shower on a cold day, one of the coldest that we have had in Alabama in a while. I was also awakened by an emergency message and alarm to vacate the building due to an emergency only to learn later that it was a test. I learned this when the fire truck arrived and I heard an employee apologizing for not calling them to let them know that it was only a test. I only stayed overnight so there was no other opportunity for me to get a better impression. The only reason that I did not give a lower rating for the facilities is because once I reported the issue with the shower and sink, they sent a handy man to the room to make the repairs, but my son was already taking a cold shower at the time since we were scheduled to get back home to meet previously scheduled obligations. The staff person who was checking me out said that she couldn't do anything for me because I booked through a third party. However, she did state that she would refund the money that I paid for parking.
GGuest UserRoom was nice. Nothing special. Did not see any vending machines with pop and went to front desk where they had a small shelf with few items. Had bottled water but no pop also noticed they had other items to sell but was also out. We just needed a place to stay on our way further south and it worked fine for us. Was a little difficult to find the hotel but that could have been the map on the phones. Desk person was nice. Heard her speaking to a few people while we were checking in and seemed pleasant to them all
AAmanda PereiraI liked the room but the tape had a strong smell and the shower made a high appetite maybe I needed maintenance, has waffle in the morning coffee I love
AAnonymous UserWe wanted to stay in Irondale rather than Birmingham and although this property didn't have great or CURRENT reviews, the description said that it was renovated in 2024 and no other property had a better review. It was indeed updated in some areas and our room was very nicely appointed with new upholstery and modern furniture but it was not clean. There was a layer of dust (construction?) on EVERYTHING and long, dark hairs on the bathroom floor. The window glass was filthy. The freezer was so in need of defrosting that the door would not shut and we were unable to refreeze our flat ice packs. I would guess that no one has stayed in the room since the renovation and the room had not received a post-construction cleaning. The elevator was very dirty, noisy, and a bit scary to ride to the 4th floor. The regular clientele is obviously traveling construction workers. Staff was very friendly but unprofessional.
GGuest UserThe hallway smell was over the top. Whatever they use to mask the smell was just awful. Also, when I came back from dinner one night, there was a puddle of water from the a/c. Water was under bed and to the other side of room. Management came and cleaned it up and took care of a/c issue. It was late and didn’t want to deal with that. Wont be going back.
AAnonymous UserA nice business hotel with a free airport shuttle. After picking up your luggage at the airport, call the hotel and they will send a car to pick you up. We can arrange airport drop-off service even after 4 o'clock in the morning, great!
KKAIXIANGThere was a fridge and microwave in the room but they didn't work. There was no overhead lighting so you had to use floor lamps or table lamps. Several of the outlets were not working so some of the floor lamps didn't work. There was also a $50 deposit required at reception.
