Environment and Location: The hotel is housed in a characterful historic castle, providing a unique and interesting backdrop that offers a welcome change from modern chain hotels. The grounds are nice, adding to the overall aesthetic and charm of the property.

Amazing opportunity to stay in a real castle with such a rich history. The staff, especially Jon, were outstanding. Everyone was so accommodating. It seems like they have been making constant improvements to the property. The spa closes early (6p) and several amenities in the spa were out of order. Be aware that the archery and falconry, although on the property, are run by a separate company, closes at 5p, and requires a reservation. The remote location is beautiful and quiet, but be aware that getting a rideshare car is nearly impossible. The taxi company they use is very reasonable, but getting back to Dalhousie from Rosslyn Chapel was nearly $50 (I think due to the remote location). Great event for small parties/weddings. The dungeon dinner was fantastic, but be aware there is only one option (chef’s 7-course) that was $125 per person with no separate option for kids (more expansive, cheaper options at the other on-site restaurant, the Orangery). The complimentary breakfast was also delicious, made to order + continental. If we ever come back to Scotland, I’d come again despite checking staying in a castle off my bucket list.

My husband wanted to sleep in a castle, well he did! Given the age (over 800 years), it is well maintained. The castle itself and the grounds are just beautiful. Very friendly and helpful staff. Things to keep in mind: - it's about 35 minutes from downtown Edinburgh, you can Uber to get to the hotel but have to take a taxi (which cost more) to leave the hotel. - the toilets don't have a very strong flush (lol). - wifi is not good, so make sure you have a good roaming plan; download some movies to watch in the evenings. OR for those that drink, there is a lovely bar and a beautiful library for the book lovers. - I enjoyed their meals but the portions are small. If you want to experience sleeping in a castle, I highly recommend Dalhousie! It was a lovely stay.

Staff were so friendly and helpful. Castle grounds were nice. Castle itself was nice as well. There is currently scaffolding covering one side. There was a wedding there so we couldn't go into the library cuz it was reserved for them.

Scary experience We arrived at 11pm and were told we booked a room in Castle Rock not the main Castle. Finding Castle Rock in the dark with no signs or street lights was a nightmare. When we managed to find Castle Rock, it looked like a deserted house from a horror movie. Pitch black with no lights on anywhere. We eventually came back to the main castle and decided to upgrade to stay in the Castle, there was no one at the front desk, we used the walkie-talkie at the front desk, still nothing. After almost 15mins, someone came to the front desk. It’s one of the worst experiences had.
