The Bowmore House Bed and Breakfast

We stayed at Bowmore House for three nights in 02 Sep ‘24 on a Scottish Routes Whisky tour. The facilities were well appointed and very clean, the welcome and attentiveness of mine hosts Andrew and his lovely wife was outstanding and his useful tips appreciated. The location is walking distance to most places in the town be sure to however to make advance reservations for dinner in the town. Breakfast in the common room was outstanding and a great way to start the day.

We stayed at The Bowmore House as part of the Scottish Routes 4 day Islay tour. The hosts Andrew and Alison were tremendous. Andrew was most entertaining with his island and whisky knowledge and his sharp wit. The rooms were spacious, clean and well appointed. The breakfast was comprehensive and delicious. A special thanks also to Andrew for looking out for my 82yo father. It was much appreciated. I would thoroughly recommend this place if you're visiting Islay.

We just got back from Scotland and our stay at The Bowmore House (in the Gowanbrae Cottage) was truly the highlight of our trip. Andrew, the owner, was exceptionally helpful and generous with his time in giving us tips on places to visit on Islay and how best to traverse the roads and Calmac Ferry. We also had a nice time just chatting with him. The cottage is lovely and the views are beautiful. We made use of the kitchen one night using food we purchased from the market right down the street and the other nights got tasty pizza from Peatzeria, also just down the street. My husband and I went to various distilleries (We really enjoyed the tour at Laphroaig, make sure you book in advance) and Bruichladdich tasting room was very generous but we also loved just sitting by the windows overlooking the water at Bowmore Distillery right in town. Our waitress was so nice and the tastings were delicious. We are already missing Islay and the wonderful people we met there. Thanks again Andrew for being such a terrific host!

I stayed here when I was a member of Scottish Routes Islay Whisky Tour and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Andrew and Allison were perfect hosts from the night we got there until our day of departure. Good hearty breakfasts accompanied by a "skalk" set us up for the day. When I return to Islay to visit the new distilleries this will where I should like to stay. Ron Davison

Absolutely 5 star accommodation, checked in by Alison , smooth and quick , gave me all the info I needed . Room was a good size , bathroom was massive , all very clean and tidy and warm . Outside in the hallway there is a Honestly box for the lovely selection of drinks & snacks . Breakfast was absolutely fantastic. Andrew informed me that my sailing would be good to go today as I was concerned about high winds , he then offered me a late check out as my ferry was not till 1pm . Would highly recommend anyone visiting Islay to get book into The Bowmore House Bed and Breakfast.

Stayed here with a tour group and we were super impressed with the rooms and breakfast. But even more so by the general hospitality and friendliness of Andrew and Alison. They were lovely hosts and went out of their way to help and make us be comfortable. Alison even kindly popped to a shop in Bowmore and got an item for us when we soundly be able to make the shop’s opening times. We’d definitely look to stay here when we visit Islay again.
