Given that it looks like the hotel generally gets high ratings, it must be a luck of the draw thing. Wasn't staying at the hotel, but had really looked forward to a nice lunch there during our Arran visit. Arrived, clearly seen by serving staff, no acknowledgment, and there were only 2 other tables who were served and almost finished. Waited 10 minutes, no one came. Went over to the bar, the young guy behind it obviously saw me coming and deliberately walked away out of sight. Meanwhile, 2 ladies came in and were warmly greeted, seated by server, drinks order taken right away - well known locals or hotel guests? Naturally we got up and left. Very disappointing. If you go chances are you'll be fine, but don't be surprised if you have an experience like ours. Wish there was an option for zero stars.

What a marvellous hotel this is family wedding on Arran I had a beautiful room on Ground floor which opened out onto a private garden and was very pleasantly surprised to find my daughter grand daughter and great granddaughter in the next room with their garden adjoining mine we would not have been able to plan this so thank you all at The Douglas Rooms perfect food delicious and views and gardens to die for !

Delighted to return to The Douglas again.We arrived earlier than our check in but our room was ready -lovely comfortable room with a massive bathroom -although the weather was extremely cold our room was lovely and warm as was the bathroom. We ate in the bar on our first night and although the menu was much smaller than on previous stays we enjoyed our meals. Breakfast was lovely and all staff were friendly and helpful. The gardens are developing and we hope to return later in the year to see them in bloom. All in all a lovely break and we have another Douglas Duck to add to our collection.

Room was basic Bathroom was freezing- no radiator or underfloor heating just a towel rail The sink plug was wedged in and I couldn't empty it- I mentioned this on checkout - no concern or apology Grab and go breakfast was meagre Overpriced Would not hurry back

We had a meal in the bistro last evening . The service ,food and general experience was excellent. The food was interesting, well presented and very tasty. All in all a very pleasant experience. I would recommend dining in the bistro rather than the main bar as the bar can be noisy, but this is a matter of preference. The food is good in either place.

Stopped here for coffee and cake a few times with friends. Been pleased with the visit each time! Lovely modern decor in the interior and relaxing place to sit outside too. Had scones that were lovely as well as brownies with our cappuccinos. Tasted amazing! Worth every penny. Great service too. We chose to eat by the outdoor seating benches because we had our dog. This was a nice option considering it was lovely weather

Absolutely shocking service came on for dinner & drinks sat at a dirty table for over 15 mins was given a menu not asked if we wanted a drink. A member of staff comes out goes all goes over the dogs in the bar completely ignores us. 25 minutes later no drinks no food order we walked out . This was a Sunday afternoon at 5.30pm not even busy, staff appalling, I visit Arran 5;6 times a year never will I be back.

We have just spent 5 nights at this wonderful hotel and our stay has been absolutely perfect. We had a gorgeous room with two windows overlooking the sea and the most comfortable bed imaginable. It was nice and quiet too. Every member of staff is friendly, welcoming and attentive. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon when the bar was filled with local people making music; it was such a wonderful experience. On Saturday evening there was live music again from Starsky, which was fantastic. On top of all that, the food was lovely too. Just the rest and relaxation we needed. Highly recommended!
