We really enjoyed our stay at McAlpine House. It's a lovely building in a quiet residential area. The owner is a delightful lady - friendly and accommodating and so helpful with suggestions of things to do and places to eat. Our room was comfortable, with a lovely bathroom which was both modern and spacious. We did have some difficulty finding space to put things as there wasn't a great deal of floor space and the wardrobe wasn't shelved. A minor inconvenience, though and understandable when an old building's converted. Breakfasts were good and had a different cooked element each day, although it was unusual not to be offered fruit juice. The main plus is simply the "feel" of the property. There are plenty of places to sit and relax, if you have the time. The pool and its surroundings are lovely. This is a great location if you prefer to be away from the main tourist area but still want to visit Cable Beach. There is a regular bus service throughout the day and plenty of taxis available if you don't have a car. Nearby are a couple of good, lively restaurants and bars. The town beach jetty area is a pleasant place to wander and the Broome Historical Museum is well worth a visit. The jetty to jetty trail makes an interesting walk, too. Thoroughly recommended!

Wonderful sanctuary in Broome in a great location and a lovely breakfast thrown in with the room. I left my car keys behind. They found them and delivered the keys to me at the airport before my flight. Now that’s going above and beyond in caring for their guests. The pool was great too. I highly recommend staying there!

We had long dreamed of staying in this Colonial era B + B years ago, and finally we did and were not disappointed. Marilynne the host and chef co manager Ronnie were fabulous hosts. We stayed upstairs in a large room with huge outdoor balcony overlooking the pool and rest of the house. The bed was comfy, beautiful fresh linens, lovely amenities in bathroom. The hosts were able to provide lots of information about things to do or places to eat. Breakfast was taken at a long table, other smaller tables are available, and we met and talked to other guests while a gorgeous breakfast was served. Fresh juice, plunger coffee and teas, toast, cooked eggs which varied in style each day. In the heat of the afternoon we sat and had a glass of wine while reading books on the lounge outside our room. The old colonial vibe was everywhere and made us feel "at home", such was the tranquility and service. It was a short walk to the town bus (stop )which came every half an hour, close to the airport, and cable beach a 15 mins bus ride. Taxis are plentiful for far after hours dining. After 4 days of bliss, were sad to leave but had places to go. We would highly recommend this B + B for personal attention and comfort.

Stayed here for five days last month and it was lovely. Marilyn and her staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfasts each morning were beautiful. We would all sit around at a big table downstairs and it was lovely to get to know other people staying there and listening to their stories and about their lives and travels. We stayed in the old quarter in the library retreat. A beautiful old pearlers cottage so very original with big old balconies where you could sit and just read and relax but you couldn't because the mosquitos were bloody annoying. You had to carry bug spray everywhere you went in Broome as they were so bad. There was a lovely pool which was refreshing of an afternoon to come home to after a long day of walking and sightseeing. Beautiful gardens and parking onsite which was good. A bit out of the town centre but close to beach Definitely worth staying here while in Broome.

We arrived for a whistle stop visit on the 17th October for 2 nights. Journey by taxi to the hotel took around 5 minutes, all nice and simple. Upon arrival we met with the wonderful Ronaldo, do not underestimate what this person can do, nothing appears to phase him and he has an answer for everything. Check in was quick and simple process, as was a brief explanation of where we were and what was available. The property is a timeless wonder, we hate the corporate marble floor and characterless interior and this place is the complete opposite, thankfully. Quirky nooks and crannies everywhere, creaking floorboards and doors to be opened, uneven floorboards, see your case rolling off is a joy to behold, it’s wonderful, the character in this place is brilliant. We were staying in room 2, the library, now the first floor, we had our own seating area which was comfortable and practical. the bedroom had a bed, side tables chair, tv, fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, you need to survive. The bathroom was a good size and covered all our needs. Breakfast is a joy, sitting around a large dining table with other guests sharing stories of travels thus far, is a great start to the day, I’m a fussy vegetarian, but Ronaldo wasn’t to be beaten. Our trip was due to conclude on the 19th with our flight back to Perth, but, thanks to and utter meltdown in customer services by Virgin Australia, that didn’t happen, once again Ronaldo to the rescue, we stayed another night. What then followed was farcical and issues I will take up with #Virginaustralia. A huge thank you to Ronaldo and the team at McAlpine House, you demonstrated a wonderful example of customer services, if you are looking to jump ship, Virgin Australia needs you!!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 nights at this historic 8- room house. Our room was filled with bespoke furniture and artwork. Comfortable KS bed. Shutters give a relaxed feel. The central courtyard pool was a welcome oasis. Breakfast in a shared space by the pool with a hot dish to suit your taste- something different each day. Secure car park. Washing can be done - washed, hung and folded for $10 the lot. Personalised service from owners, Maralyn and Gary- who know Broome well.

We spent five nights here and loved it. It is so beautiful and relaxing with wonderful and informative hosts. We were in one of the garden suites that were built more recently and are so well designed. The bed is very comfortable with beautiful linen and there are lovely toiletries in the bathroom. Good reading lights were very welcome. Every detail has been thought through carefully. Breakfast is served in the morning and a different hot dish prepared each day. Ronaldo gave us fantastic advice about the restaurants we should go to , as well as coffee shops and galleries. Pinctada McAlpine House is a very special little hotel with a fascination history and we felt lucky to have stayed there.
