Huis Sint-Andriescruyse

This place is a disgrace and so is his owner. Be aware you need to bring your luggage up some 20 steps of the stairway, which is not specified in the website. Moreover, website is only in Dutch so I had to depend on questions asked through email. Nowhere did we expect not to have a toilet in our room. We were 2 couples and had to use one toilet at the end of the hall. My husband and I had a shower and sink in our bedroom. The other couple had to shower in a bath outside of their bedroom. We had high 80s temperatures last week. Luc insisted on keeping all windows and blinds open. He provided fans but these open windows provided incredible amounts of bugs (especially because the house is close to the canal). My son was bitten by a spider all over. I specifically requested from Luc that he not open windows during the day while we were out. We would manage with the fans at night, but he did it anyway. On top of all that he has an aversion to clothes left on the armchairs. While we were having breakfast, he entered our rooms, opened all windows and ... moved my bra which was sitting on one of the armchairs, to the armoire's handle! He did the same with my son's girlfriend's bra which was sitting on the bed. He has no right to do this during our stay and this shows complete rudeness and ignorance. Stay away from this place like the plague, please.

So much to say and so few characters. This place is run by a couple who are completely arrogant and ignorant. Such horrible people. If you have a lot of luggage, be warned that there is a 20 step tight, steep climb to the rooms. It is a very old building, therefore the floors make a lot of noise when walking around. One room has a private toilet, bath tub and a container to fill with water and bathe yourself. No shower! The other rooms have a shower but the toilet is on the corridor and is shared with other rooms. We had travelled from the States and were jet lagged, we also got engaged the night before and had celebrations with family. The next morning we missed breakfast. Breakfast was at 9:30 am and at 10:30 am the lady of the house was banging on our door to get us up for breakfast. When we apologized for missing it, she said it is not good enough and continued to roar and shout. Her issue was the food that would go to waste however she had no idea of our dietary requirements therefore the food wouldn’t have been eaten anyway. I understand that in a guesthouse we are in someone’s house, but there is no homely feel in this place. Not once did the couple crack a smile. They are going through the motions and are always looking ahead to get you out and the next couple in. It is not worth the money. Great location but plenty more places for sure to stay and get a better experience and value for money.
