Even a 2 star feels generous when you consider the cost of a room at the new Mondrian in Burleigh Heads. I’ll give it 1 for the location which is probably its best selling point. I’m not sure who designed this hotel but they should be fired on the spot. The pool should obviously be the epicentre of the hotel but its location on the beach side means it is in shade from lunchtime onwards and cops the prevailing summer nor’easter wind rending it totally useless for the time of day when most guests would actually want to use it in the afternoon. Once we found our room down pitch black corridor you again realise it’s all style over substance. Too much stone and a “designer” impractical sofa. We were a family of four in a Studio Sunset which contained two double beds. A double bed might be fine for the kids but no way for adults so I am not sure how this room can realistically be sold for 2 adults and 2 children. $885 a night is a high price for an uncomfortable night’s sleep. It’s a twin room not a family room. The reception should be a welcoming feature of any hotel but it’s like the designer forgot to put one in so there is now a small stand up desk crammed in the corner as you walk in the door. Staff were friendly enough and seemed apologetic and expectant of the criticism when we raised the issue of the pool. The only nice space in the whole hotel is the ground floor Lito restaurant for breakfast but even that experience was sullied due to a surly front of house manager. Burleigh Heads was crying out for a great hotel. Mondrian had a chance but have sadly totally stuffed it up.

To begin, this newly opened and aesthetically pleasing establishment has recently opened in June 2025. It is an ideal hotel for this vibrant city. I would like to express my gratitude to General Manager Nick, who exceeded my expectations during my stay. My business partner and I were thoroughly impressed by the check-in process, the downstairs restaurant, and, of course, the exquisite suites. The panoramic views from the balcony overlooking the ocean and waterfront were particularly breathtaking. I will undoubtedly return to the Mondrian on my future visits to the Gold Coast. I highly recommend that you consider staying there as well.

I love trying out new hotels and took the opportunity at a recent business trip. Mondrian is aiming to be the latest hottest destination in Burleigh Heads - and in fact a staff member echoed this to me in the lift. It is buzzing - but it seems the majority are non-hotel guests. Public can dine at Lito and Haven, and use the Pool Club (after 1130am - although on Saturday it seemed filled with public guests before then) - and they seem to be the majority. They are all young and hip and beautiful-looking, and if this is your vibe, then this is the place for you. As a hotel guest, it didn't feel particularly special. I was asked if I had a booking when I presented for breakfast at 7am on Sunday (ok it was Fathers Day but a separate area should be reserved for hotel guests). Lito is a public restaurant and as a hotel guest you are seated anywhere amongst them. You are given a seperate breakfast a la carte menu that only offers a small fraction and limited choice of what is available. The main pool is small but I loved the two small magnesium soak pools. The setting of the pool area is such that it faces east, so by midday the direct sun is gone beyond the building shadows. Restaurant service seems a bit better than previous reviews - they seem to have hired a whole bunch of twenty-something Brazilians. They are friendly but some still a bit raw in experience. Hopefully they get their act together before the spring/summer crush - it wasn't so busy at the hotel but the restaurants are popular with erratic service. The lobby area is tiny with no sitting space. You essentially walk into the building and you either turn one way to the small hotel counter or you turn the other way to enter the Lito restaurant. I found the restaurant prices ridiculously expensive - the local Burleigh restaurants are only a 5-10min walk away. Overall this is a chill hip place if you love the high energy vibe and Insta-cred. I personally prefer the quiet elegance of the Langham Gold Coast which is at a similar price point. Location was fantastic - a nice change from the main drag of GC but current GC Highway roadworks right outside are a bit of a menace for arriving and departing from here.

Badly in need of staff training and kitchen staff. They mix up restaurant bookings and dates. Turn down service meant to be at 7.30 for six nights and they turn up at 4pm every afternoon. Waited forever to be served in the restaurant and for drinks to arrive. Food was expensive and almost inedible. If they are going to continue to charge $800 a night they need to provide better service. Most of the staff are friendly and well meaning but totally inexperienced and untrained.
