Burythorpe House recently hosted our intimate wedding and what a venue it is, the setting is lovely and the house is cosy and welcoming. Alison and her whole team were amazing, nothing was too much trouble. The food during our stay was exceptional and Hayden really saved the day with an emergency replacement wedding cake. We would 100% recommend Burythorpe, although we’d also quite like to keep it for ourselves.

We had a lovely time here, from the moment you walk in, this place has a very relaxed, homely feel with lovely country style decor. Everything was great for us in a beautiful building with fab views. Service is very relaxed and informal which we loved, some guests when we were in the lounge area were moaning about it as they had to wait, so if you want immediate service and people fussing, this probably isn’t the place for you. The relaxed style was extremely refreshing. There is a clue with the word “house” on the title as in Burythorpe House Hotel. If we were being hyper critical…why fit plastic windows to such a beautiful old house?

We took my Mother for afternoon tea last week to celebrate her 90th Birthday and it was simply outstanding! The quality of the offering was first class and the portions were very generous. The staff on duty were so kind and helpful and it made for a very happy and enjoyable Occassion and all at a very reasonable price!

A little gem of a hotel set in lovely countryside. It rather felt like staying with your wealthy relatives because the staff are so welcoming and friendly. I have never booked anywhere that within half an hour of placing the booking, received a welcome and thank you message from the general manager, who I would add was very present during our stay and was incredibly lovely. The hotel, in places, is a little tired but it’s far outweighed by everything else it has to offer. The room was so quirky with little steps up and down, probably originally a bedroom and private sitting room in years gone by, with a front view over the most incredible old oak tree. The breakfast was lovely quality and the one evening meal we had was also very good. Overall, I would say, the hotel has a soul and character which is so lacking in many other places now. It’s not all bling and sparkle but rather a lovely warm glow on a cold , damp weekend.

While the hotel is of a reasonable standard and with friendly service, only fair food, don’t expect any nice touches. It’s fairly basic, clearly decorated some time ago-not so much tired as dated. Lighting in public rooms is way to bright due to old light fittings and generally it lacks soft furnishings such as more rugs (especially in the dining room). Maybe that is what to expect at the price.

Wow! A stunning place to spend our wedding anniversary. We were upgraded to the bridal suite. The house is very cosy and comfortable: log fires, big settees, warm decor and best of all, friendly, welcoming staff. The meals were delicious. Friends recommended it to us and we've passed on that recommendation. We're sure to return.

Had the most wonderful one nights stay here in mid November - this is our second visit to this lovely hotel. We travelled up to spend the Saturday at York Christmas markets and spent the late afternoon and evening at Burythorpe House - 30 minutes drive away, before going to the nearby Castle Howard after breakfast on the Sunday - 15 minutes away. The trip was for my mums 75th birthday and has become a bit of a tradition! We used to stay in York but found Burythorpe House last year and much prefer this ‘home from home’ with beautiful and peaceful surroundings, excellent service, friendly staff and fabulous food! At half the price of a central York hotel at this time of year! The rooms are very well appointed with everything you need and are spotlessly clean, both our evening meal and breakfast was delicious - and the views are stunning! We were lucky enough to be entertained by the ‘resident’ saxophonist who had been booked for both of our visits! Mum was made up that he was there again for this stay! After dinner we spent the evening in-front of a roaring fire with a few drinks. A huge thank you to and recognition of Alison, the hotel manger, who went out of her way to get to know us, had mum in fits of laughter with her tales and really added to our stay. She epitomises this hotel and the personal touch they deliver on, she made mum feels so special and even sent us a glass of champagne to celebrate mums birthday! We cannot wait to return - we thought about bringing dad and my husband but decided to keep this special place as our mum and daughter girlie treat! Fabulous place!
