Zafiro Cala Mesquida

As we were looking to stay in Mallorca for October we found this beautiful hotel. When we arrived we were welcomed by the staff with a drink and they explained everything for all the diverse things the hotel offers. They have a lot of pools to choose from and all have their own life guards next to them. There are several places where one can eat and various "pool"bars next to the different pools. The rooms a well equipped with a small refrigerator and coffee machine. We stayed in a room with the four of us and that was doable. The beds seem hard at first but we all slept really good on them, even the sofa bed. The only thing is that there where only two seats on the balcony, so we had to improvise with seats from the desk. Even at the end of the year the amount of activities done by the hotel are vast, there is a kids club that do a lot of things with the title ones and for the older kids and adult there are also a lot of things to do. There is a gym and a spa also, I was thinking of using the spa but due to other things done this holiday I didn't. The food in the hotel is good and fresh, and there is a lot a variety. There are different restaurants , one closed for the season during our stay. All the staff we encountered where very friendly, no mater where they worked. When you want to go to the beach there is a easy access fence at the back pools that leads you to the street towards the sea, this is about 200 meters. The beach it self is very nice and easy even for young kids as the slope is very gradual into the sea. From the hotel you can drive easy to other Cala's , like the nearby city of Cala Gatjada.

Just got back from a 5 day family trip and was very impressed with the hotel facilities and staff. Resort was not busy, plenty of sun loungers and seats available at all pools. Hotel grounds and facilities immaculate, staff polite and approachable, food was great and plentiful. Beach very close and sea was gin clear. Couldn’t really fault it for a short Easter trip.

We stayed here as a family of 4 in August 2024. We loved it! The hotel was a great size, not too big not too small. Plenty of space for the kids (10 & 12) to have a wonder around without feeling anxious as to where they have gone. Sunbed situation was great. We were used to the typical get up early to reserve a sunbed situation, but it was not like that here. It would be gone 9am and still there would be some great spots around the pool still available. Made everything so much more relaxing not having to worry about getting up early to get a decent sunbed. The rooms were fine. We were in a 1 bed apartment and so had the pullout sofa bed for the kids. Yes it was a little cramped but it was easy enough to pop away during the day and the beds were comfortable for all of us. We found the food to be decent enough. you get what you get with an all inclusive! We preferred the smaller buffet restaurant which was tucked down the side by the entertainment area. It was less busy and intense than the bigger buffet restaurant and also had a nice little area to sit outside if you wanted. The entertainment was good, We especially liked the kahoot quizes they did every night, was a great way of getting our kids engaged and we always had a good laugh doing them as a family.

Location - beautiful. Weather - warm and mostly sunny. This part of Mallorca was remote, quiet and unspoilt with dramatic scenery. The beach (a few minutes walk from the hotel) was a large stretch of golden sand, some days the sea was quite surfy other days calm. Sea temp was lovely for swimming. There’s a small takeaway cafe on the beach. You can also walk along the coast to other beaches. The only drawback is the transfer was nearly 2 hours on a coach as you’re the last stop. Hotel and pools - the hotel was lovely and the variety of swimming pools fabulous. I was worried in May the water might be cold but it wasn’t. Kids spent ages in the main pool and the kids pool with the slides. However we all loved the small swimming pool over on the park side of the hotel (opposite side of small road to main hotel). Quiet, leafy and sunny :) We also loved the oasis pools which were heated and had Bali beds and a view of the beach. The kids also enjoyed the kids pool discos at 4pm and the running mat. You can only change pool towels on certain days and at certain times which I understand to some extent but it’s annoying depending on when you arrive and also we missed it when we went out for the day. Room - we were given a room in the main hotel even though we’d booked a park room. There was some noise from the entertainment and probably would have preferred the quieter park location. The room was big though, one bedroom with sliding doors to living area where the sofa bed was for the kids. Small kitchenette and I’d asked for a kettle which was provided. Small shop near hotel where you can get milk and basics. There’s a Lidl by the bus stop on way to Cala Ratjada. Food - overall a good selection and enough choice for vegetarians. There are two buffet restaurants. For lunch you can order from the bar restaurant by the pool which was good quality or use the buffets. There’s also an a la carte restaurant which you can book for one night if all inc. Good selection of cocktails and kids cocktails and frappes/ milkshakes included in all inc. Unfortunately I was sick on the second to last day and two others then were sick on way back/ when we got home. The buffet restaurants need to increase their hygiene- one obvious thing that could be done is disinfecting tables between customers not just wiping with a cloth. We asked housekeeping to do an extra clean of our bathroom and towel change which they did no problem. Entertainment - evening entertainment was quite good, we enjoyed the bubble man and the flamenco dancers who involved the children. Kids club we went to once and there was plenty to do, but we preferred the beach and pools. Nearby attractions - we got the local bus to Capdepera and walked up to the hilltop castle which was beautiful, amazing views. Then the bus on to Cala Ratjada where there is a marina and cafes/restaurants etc. We also walked along the coast from Cala Mesquida to Cala Torta and walked back on inland path. Overall we had

Had high expectations for this hotel they have been obligated! The hotel is usually quite rammed, almost impossible to get a decent lounger and the hotel management DO NOT take any complaints seriously (especially if your british there is a real undercurrent of animosity towards the brits) The lounger beds on two occasions when we put our personal belongings onto them (water, towels etc) were physically removed and dumped by other guests and when I confronted them they denied all knowledge and on one occasion we where verbally abused which caused my young daughter to become very upset. So this really tinted a big part of our holiday as we found quite a few guests incredibly rude and management or the lifeguards don’t bother to do anything about it. Loungers in general at the other pools quite crammed together and food is ok but definitely not the best this island and other hotels has to offer. Local area not much today apart from the beach so a car is essential! Night entertainment acts awful and quite dated. attached are photos of the incredible dishonest and rude guests that dumped our belongings and took our bed lounger that we had waited 4 days to try and get! I would try other hotels the guests and management let this one down. However bar stuff and fitness /kids club staff are great

The hotel is rated at 4 star but I’d say it’s more of a 3 star. Everything is just ok. Everything seems abit old and tired and needs a serious renovation. We booked the best room which cost around an extra £1300 which I wouldn’t recommend. The room itself is old small and very tatty with no mini bar or even coffee facilities. On arrival we even had to carry our own cases to our room which I’ve never experienced at a hotel before. We stayed in block 6 and the lift was broken for 4 days we stayed on the 3rd floor so everyday had to walk a 7month old and a 2 year old up and down stairs. The good points are the food is pretty good on the whole but it’s absolute chaos in the buffet with everyone flying around petrified they may miss out, the pools are good and the beach is nice. I wouldn’t recommend the Al a carte restaurant either it’s basically just the buffet food served at a pool bar next to a kids area. Mesquida itself is very quiet with nothing to do, highlight was visiting the stray cats! Overall we’re a bit disappointed with the money we have spent and the experience we had considering the stay we had at Zafiro Antratx which was amazing. I don’t think we’d ever return to be honest
