Aparthotel Ona Cala Pi Club

We've been to Ona Cala Pi three times over the past ten years or so. Our last visit was around five years ago. The first time, in a top floor apartment with a roof terrace & BBQ, was excellent, the latter two, on lower floors, were pretty good. The furnishings were tired, but otherwise, the apartments were comfortable. The staff were excellent, very friendly & helpful. The on-site shop was small & expensive. You 100% need a car, there is a large supermarket a few miles back towards Palma & the island is well worth touring around. Cala Pi itself is very small & was short of restaurants & amenities, but that was also part if it's charm. The beach is reached down a lot of steepish steps and, more importantly, to get back to the apartments, those steps have to be retraced. However, it is worth the effort for the more able-bodied. Don't expect luxury & you should have an enjoyable seven day break, any longer would likely be too long, given the nature of the area.

We were here for a full week in early October and, as there are only a few restaurants around the area, we paid for half-board for the period and had no regrets. We had a hire car and spent little time in the hotel. There was no evening entertainment at this month which was a disappointment but the tv did have a dozen English channels. We had exchanged through Interval and although we were only a couple, the exchange was for a two bed apartment, lounge, kitchen, bathroom, utility, a sea facing balcony and even a sun-bathing and bbq area on the roof. All were in good condition and it would have been great for a family in warmer months. The room was cleaned once mid-week with clean sheets and towels. The buffet restaurant was excellent for both breakfast and dinner. Very few British visitors and food choices are aimed more at the majority German, French and Spanish. A large paella was prepared each night with lots of other fish/seafood/meat alternatives. Desserts were numerous and delicious. The chefs did an amazing job keeping all the sections replenished. We enjoyed every meal. The staff throughout the hotel were cheerful, friendly and helpful. The beach is very scenic and popular with the locals, particularly at weekends, which makes street parking difficult. We managed to find spaces each time but it must very frustrating in peak periods. Later in the week we saw that there was paid underground hotel parking available. There is a bus that links to Palma several times daily. We stayed mainly within a thirty minute drive of Cala Pi visiting Llucmajor, S’Arenal, Santanyi and smaller villages and local visitor sites such as the nearby Talaiot ruins at Capocorp Vell, Botanicactus and Artestruz (ostrich farm) Altogether we had a very enjoyable week here.

Whilst the apartment and the area were a great place for a holiday, the place appeared to be gradually shutting down for the winter which meant that the hotel’s own restaurant ran out of wine. By the last couple of days even the restaurant wasn’t open for lunch and the only place open in the town (which was also part of the complex) was dreadful and v busy. On two evenings the only place to eat was the restaurant and the buffet (the only thing on offer) was pretty grim. Luckily on our last two evenings a restaurant in town called Sa Terrace opened and that was great. Nice place, nice people, lousy dining!

The room is spacious, but the kitchen is lacking basics like some way to brew coffee or even a kettle . I have to boil water in a pot and try to pour it into a mug. The pillows are horrible, flat and hard and we got 1 twin-sized blanket for the full-sized bed. When I asked for additional pillows and blankets they said "You are 4, correct? You have what you need." The pool and bar close at 18:00. There's absolutely nothing going on after 18:00. They do fun things for little kids and it seems like they are catering to families with kids under 10.

Quite nice hotel with good breakfast. Really close to an amazing beach. Room with beautiful view. Cleaning could be better and the opening hours for the pool (12 to 5 pm) is not what we expected with small children.
