I’ve given this small hotel 4 STARS because of the very WARM WELCOME, the AMAZING STAFF - HEATHER & LORRAINE who cannot do enough for you & are so very friendly, helpful & just so genuine & lovely! They ladies go out their way to make you feel safe, warm & welcomed!! Patricia is also lovely! The breakfast is OUTSTANDING and cooked fresh for you, with an abundance of tea/coffee/toast/fruit juices etc with cereals before your cooked full Scottish Breakfast ( and I mean full plates) YES this Hotel is very outdated - very old fashioned & needs a total refurb, it is such an old old building & I do pray the place is updated soon) but the hospitality & warmness of these ladies is second to none. NOT a place we would USUALLY stay, but on this occasion we thought we would give them the benefit of the doubt - I’m so glad we did!! Thank you so much Lorraine & Heather, 2 of the kindest sweetest ladies we have ever come across. Hope to see you both again soon. Sharon Michael & Hunter, room 14 x

Booked two night stay to catch up with some local wildlife attractions. Hotel was easy to find and all staff were very friendly and helpful. En suite room was comfortable and spacious, if a little dated - Irrelevant to me. This is a family run hotel who do not have the financial backing and resources of 'the chains'. People need to remember this. Enjoyed my stay here, and the breakfast was good. Finally, do yourself a big favour, get off the search engines and give these guys a ring - I saved 20percent over the best online rate by doing so. Help the little guy.

I had the misfortune of being booked into this hotel on a 3rd party website for 3 days . We checked out after only one night and decided that a 2 hour commute each day was way better than staying in this disgusting place . From seeing the reception , I was filled with dread . Checked into a room where the carpets are filthy and threadbare . Floorboards can clearly be seen through the carpet . Massive stains all over the floor . Into the bathroom that is dated to say the least . Pulled the curtains closed and disgusted to see how badly stained they are . I’m not a shrinking violet but this made my skin crawl . Reading some of the reviews on this place makes me wonder if it’s the same place being reviewed . Rooms look far better than they actually are in real life . I checked out the rooms of my colleagues and all 5 were as bad as mine . The photos show lovely looking evening meals , they don’t do food , so that’s a misrepresentation immediately . All in lesson learned the hard way To be avoided at all costs

Initially I wasn't impressed. Even the owner admits it's not a fancy establishment. It is a bit tired looking. However, what you do get is a clean bed, a good breakfast and excellent customer service that will do it's best to cater for what you need. This is a hotel to use as a base and go out for the day.

This is not for me. The " Hotel " is a very. Very poor standard , On arrival you are met with sn a dour that lingers through out The room is 70s decor with a precarious heater . The grey carpet in the orange bathroom leaves a lot to be desired . We paid extra for breakfast but as we left at 7.30 no one was around even for coffe . The pictures may have been taken a long time ago . Staff friendly and good car park

Lovely long weekend stay. Heather and her sister were extremely welcoming, nothing was too much. Martin is exactly the right person to serve you breakfast, pleasant and cheery. Thank you all. Clean and comfortable bedrooms. In need of a few updates but don't let it put you off staying here.

Castle Douglas is not a modern town and the Imperial Hotel is not a modern hotel. The welcome and staff were great. The full Scottish breakfast is a delight and they even refilled our flask with their excellent coffee for our long journey back to Southampton. Free WiFi worked well, although the rain shower seemed to affect the TV reception (but we only missed a bit of the news). Location gives a very short walk down the main Street to all that the town has to offer, including the excellent Mr Pook's Kitchen next door, where you can get a very nice meal made with locally sourced ingredients (at a price).

The hotel does not look like it does in the photos Light in bathroom did not work Broken pane in window No plug in sink water took ages to drain out Didn’t use the bath or shower Bed uncomfortable only had one sheet then mattress which didn’t look very clean Outside door at the back left unlocked all night No one on site Tables at breakfast very sticky Fire alarm went off and we had to phone someone to come back in to turn it off On the plus side the breakfast was very good and staff very friendly
