I think I had the worst pub lunch in my life today at Ye Old Cheshire Inn, my sons gammon & eggs was un edible, the gammon had seen better days, the eggs over cooked. My roast pork sandwich was just as bad, dry and tasteless. The young lady behind the bar was very pleasant and the beer good so I would suggest replacing the chef. Such a shame it’s a charming building.

We have visited the Cheshire Cheese inn for a drink and lunch over the last couple of years and have always enjoyed the pub itself and the atmosphere so decided to stay 2 nights. We had a lovely welcome and shown to our room. I booked the accommodation a bit late, so had a small double room (all others were taken), but it was absolutely fine for us. We had skylight in our room so it was lovely and bright. Room was clean and comfortable. The bed itself was so lovely and the pillows were perfect. Free parking across the road which was very handy. Breakfast was very good, service was friendly and efficient. Very personal and interested in your day etc. Pub is central to the beautiful village of Castleton, it is well worth a walk round - even if to visit the other lovely pubs in the village! We also drove up to and climbed Mam Tor and had lovely walks around the areas. On a Sunday there is a quiz, which we joined. It was really good fun and were welcomed by the locals who do the quiz and the lovely staff in the pub. We also had food there on the Sunday evening, which was excellent and plentiful. All in all, a fantastic visit to Castleton made even better by staying at Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Inn. We shall return.

Just returned from a 2 night stay and have to say it what a delightful place this is. After a long journey it was lovely to be greeted with a welcome smile and cheery hello. We stayed in Room 10 on the ground floor and couldn’t be happier with the size and cleanliness and such a good nights sleep on the comfy bed. Breakfast was plentiful and a good choice including Eggs Benedict or Scrambled Egg with Smoked Salmon along with a great Full English Breakfast. We ate in the bar in the evening and can highly recommend the great pies. Parking is just over the road and the pub is located perfectly for exploring Castleton and Mam Tor. Thank you making our mini break a great one.

We visited the area for many years and have lots of happy memories in this pub, we were going to stay for a meal but there was no fire on just an oil filled radiator in its place, it was cold and not the welcome we were hoping for so decided to go elsewhere, shame really love this place, bar staff were very friendly

We think this is the best cosiest pub in Castleton and always make it our main stop when visiting here. But today wasn't up to scratch. Despite being half empty on a Sunday the food took over an hour to arrive. The wife ordered the beef dinner and when it arrived it was pork but we didn't say anything as we didn't want to wait another hour. I ordered the "famous" pie which looked like it had been run over before being plated and resembled nothing more than slop! Both were completely dry and were described on the menu as coming with rich beef gravy. In fact I had to ask for some more gravy as the beef/pork dinner was so dry (and the pie) was so dry it was in danger of self combusting near a naked flame. Even the landlady said that does look dry as she brought out the extra small gravy jugs. Although in actual fact that's probably an exaggeration as the pub was so cold I had to put my scarf on while eating and everybody was sat with their winter coats on and woolly hats. Freezing!! Don't know what's happened here although I can only blame complacency. Next door at the Peak Hotel and at the Castle in Castleton centre are far better quality at the moment and that's a shame. Please take note.

We were here for a weekend with some friends, spending 2 nights in September. The inn is exactly what you'd expect for a village pub, good food, and a decent range of beer. We ate here on the first night and had breakfast both mornings. The evening meal was fine, though presentation could have been better. Breakfast was good, served hot and fairly quickly. Our room was clean and decent sized, but it was effectively outside. They warn you that it can be noisy, and provide you with earplugs. There was a bit of noise from outside, but i didn't need the plugs 🤷‍♂️. There is a car park across the road which hotel guests can use, but remember to register your vehicle. Check out and check in were simple enough, overall decent service, and a good weekend!
