Rix Hotel Motel

Booked a table a week in advance, and arrived to find a very large function happening. No prior warning or notice of this was given when making the booking. The table assigned to us was a high table with barstool-style seats which were unsafe for my 86-year-old grandmother. When I mentioned this to the attendant, I was told "we have 100 people here tonight", with no alternatives provided. As most of the function party was in the bar and not seated yet, I asked if a lower table could be provided, to which the attendant said no, and that we would have to go somewhere else. My lovely grandma tried to make the best of it, but there was no way she could have sat on those seats safely, and we left. It was very disappointing, as we had been looking forward to coming here and were left stunned by the lack of hospitality. Giving us prior notice that we had booked on the same night as a very busy function, or being more accommodating to elderly patrons would have been appreciated. Instead, we had a delicious meal at the Sovereign Tavern, which was filled with smiling faces and a lovely atmosphere (and plenty of low tables for older patrons).

Fabulous food and great staff! Thank you to Tedi who recommended us to eat there. Food was worth the wait! Will be back for sure. Couldn’t be anymore happier with our experience there! 5 star fine dining experience, and the staff are very friendly and welcoming & professional!

Best place in town to eat, decor was just lovely. Great place to have a drink and chat before dinner and after. The Food, was absolutely delicious, each of our meals were cooked perfectly. The staff were so friendly and the wine was amazing. We definitely will be back.

Busy atmosphere and lovely staff. Walked in during lunch it seemed quite busy. We only stayed for a drink but will be returning to try the food! Great service from the lady bartender, even when it seemed to be busy she still served us quickly and was even able to have a chat to us about the raffle game they were playing. Will definitely be back.

My husbands birthday is tomorrow so we thought we would start celebrating with lunch today. Every time I asked someone in town for their advice on where to get a nice meal in town the first place they mentioned was the Rix Hotel. We didn't book but turned up for lunch and we were seated in the main dining room. We were asked straight away if we would like a drink which always impresses me, we like to have a drink and go through the menu. I left the choice to my husband and he suggested we have two meals to share. We chose the Pork Belly Three Ways and the Pork Ribs and we asked for two spare plates for sharing. The service was excellent and we were approached a couple of times to see if the meals were ok which they were, it was an excellent start for Robb's birthday.

Congratulations to all involved in creating an excellent dining experience in Charters Towers. I have just eaten one of the best steaks, been served by lovely staff in a delightful setting. Whatever they are doing, they need to pass it along.
