Inn Upon Moon River Plantation

We were privileged to have spent 2 nights at the Plantation. Dave and Elizabeth are excellent hosts and made us feel as if we were at home in every way possible. The history of their coming to open The Inn Upon Moon River Plantation LLC is one for the history books. This history is contained within the walls of the Plantation and was very enlightening and interesting. Breakfasts were outstanding and on our last morning we were privileged to have Jazz/Blues musician, Rogue Johnsen, dine with us and delight us with his music talents. Thank you so much, Dave and Elizabeth, for such a beautiful stay!!

Do you like historic homes? Do you like amazing stories? Do you like hearty Southern breakfasts? Do you like music? Do you like a peaceful night's sleep in a comfy bed? If you can answer "yes" to any of these, then the Inn Upon Moon River is the B&B for you! Our stay was unplanned; we were returning home from a vacation that was cancelled due to a hurricane, and too weary to keep driving, just needed a place to spend the night. So thankful Heaven directed us here! The Inn is a veritable museum, and one would have to spend several days to appreciate its content. We stayed in the Memphis Room which was spacious and comfortable, and, of course, expected breakfast the next morning...but there was soooo much more! Expect to be well fed, not only physically, but also mentally. musically, and spiritually as well. Dave's blueberry pancakes were a dream, and the bacon was world class! Elizabeth and Dave have such a fascinating history, and we could have sat around their beautifully appointed dining room table all day listening to Elizabeth's stories of their lives and how they were led to buy this B&B. How often do you just have to hug your hosts when you depart? Thank you, Elizabeth and Dave, for blessing us with your gracious hospitality and for keeping faithful and true to the reason you bought this house!

The inn is located in a grand old house that's over a hundred years old. The interior is like a museum of the blues, with pictures and other objects filling almost every square inch. The owners used to own a blues and jazz club in Florida. They sponsor occasional blues concerts and lectures. On a Sunday they served a copious and delicious breakfast while a pianist played favorite tunes to which he added a boogie-woogie beat. The best feature of all was the hospitable couple, Dave and Elizabeth, who treat everyone as family. The inn attracts repeat guests from far away. I'll be back!

The hosts were welcoming, thoughtful, caring and compassionate. Of all the places we have stayed over the years, it was the most enriching, one I hope to experience again. Thank you, Elizabeth and David for all of your kindnesses. Wishing you all the best, for it is what you deserve.

This place is a like a museum with Southern and blues objects of art everywhere. There's so much to see as every room has something to muse about. Your hosts, David and Elizabeth Claytor are both interesting and charming folks who always take the time to give their guests a truly memorable experience at the Inn on Moon River. The Claytors are also great cooks, so the breakfast is over the top, The Inn is on a quiet street in the quiet town of Chester, South Carolina. It offers a restful alternative to the typical motel experience. I'd give it six stars if they'd let me.

This is a one of a kind place. The hosts have gone to great lengths to create a cozy and unique space. The decor is like a shrine to blues music (the owners once owned a storied blues club in Florida) and the hosts were so friendly. The B&B is off the beaten path in Chester, but feels like it should be on some kind of "best of" list for cultural experiences in SC. Tip: the back rooms are quietest as they are off the main street. The bed was comfortable, the room was spotless, the wifi was fast and the blueberry pancakes were delicious. Staying here was the highlight of my trip.
