Volunteer Inn

Every person I interacted with at the Volunteer Inn was really friendly - from the young woman behind the bar who greeted me and checked me in, to the chaps in the Indian restaurant (no cooking smells in the bedrooms, as restaurant quite separate, just in case you're worried abou that!), to the lady who cooked my delicious breakfast in the morning. The breakfast was really good - real coffee, wonderfully fresh eggs and great sausages and bacon. Lots of choice for vegetarians and those just wanting cereal too. I hadn't stayed in a b&b with a shared bathroom for years, so had been a bit worried about that aspect, but it was totally fine, as the bathroom was accessed by a key and it was only shared with one other room. I felt safe and comfortable, so that was not an issue. Although I'm originally from Cheltenham, I had not been to Chipping Campden for decades - WOW! It's one of the most unspoiled Costwold towns I've seen, with the most thatched houses in one place I think I've ever seen! The villagers I spoke with were so very helpful and friendly (was on a quest for new tights for my evening biz meeting!) Looks like the town is directly on the Cotswold Way too, so I shall return with my daughter and have a good old yomp! Recommend very highly - the bedroom was simple, but clean and very comfy (the only reason I marked down to a 4 on cleanliness was because my little waste bin had not been emptied from the previous stay....feel a bit mean doing that but, well, it is important...) I can't wait to go back!

I was in England with my daughter for a few days in October. We booked three nights in the small historic town of Chipping Campden at The Volunteer Inn. We were very pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to book and how friendly the staff were. The room was very clean, cozy. We even had a tea and coffee corner in the room. The breakfast buffet wasn't huge - but we could always order fresh food like eggs, avocado, toast, beans etc. fresh. And it all tasted very good. We were out and about all day - so we didn't visit the bar at the front in the evening. Our room was further back - so we had no problem at all with the noise. We were also very surprised that our luggage was transported at a very fair price. - We had never heard of this offer before. So for all those who want to experience typical old England - I am happy to recommend this “pub”!!!

I absolutely love this Pub. Quintessentially English, quaint and a great little atmosphere. The drinks are super cheap here and out back is a delicious Indian restaurant. Recommend you visit this place to watch sports, socialise with the friendly locals or just relax. What a gem of a place.

My family and I loved our stay at the Volunteer Inn! Very helpful staff and excellent restaurants serving Indian cuisine for supper and full, complementary English breakfast each morning. The food was outstanding and the pub lively. I would say the pub is the most lively place in Chipping Campden, although it can become loud and smoky, especially if England wins! The location is great for exploring Chipping Campden and as a base for experiencing the Cotswolds! We will return!

Great place to start the Cotswold Way. The room was clean, beds comfortable and options for dining available locally. Breakfast good and veggie options available. Really quaint village with a couple of pubs nearby serving food. Baggage transfers also available for onward travel on the Cotswold Way and other routes in the area.

This eclectic local establishment bleeds with life and exuberance. Having frequently visited the Volunteer in my years, I have come to realise that bliss may be achieved through a cold pint and a warm welcome. This pub is few and far between. I met the love of life within these walls, for which I will be forever grateful.
