Spotlights were: (1) Location: Central of Cessnock. The Cessnock retail business district is just one block behind. It was easy to access WWS, Coles, BWS, Kmart, Big W, Aldi, EB Game, Reject Shop and Super Cheap Auto, etc. (2) Interior: Very colorful and modern vintage style. Beds were comfortable and bathroom was modern and clean. (3) Facilities: Shared full kitchen, dining and large lounge area, self-serving with eggs, fruits, toast, jams, milk, tea, coffee and juice, etc. Downside was: No ground floor rooms. Stairs were steep through both front door and back door (access to backyard parking). For a family with little kids or elderly, it will be a challenge.
We recently stayed for two nights at this motel. Check in was quick with friendly service. The Queen room was spacious, clean and comfortable with the usual amenities, including Wifi. The big fluffy white towels were a nice surprise! We found this affordable accommodation an ideal base for various activities in the Hunter Valley, including the Christmas lights. We were able to walk to dinner on both nights, once to the Leagues Club and once to Vincent Street Kitchen & Bar. We would certainly recommend Wine Country Motor Inn.
I booked a family room and a double room, paid half of the cost of each room for the deposit, was emailed an Invoice with the room numbers on it. Travelled from Sydney for a family function close by and rang early in the afternoon to advise we were there and would arrive there early in the evening. I got a phone call around 6.45pm to say they had over booked the rooms and only the family room was available but we could stay in a double room in the Vine Valley Inn a minute away. How was this possible? My family that stayed at Cumberland said it was very out of date as was the Inn we were sent to. Very disappointing and unacceptable It really spoilt our trip

Trip.com had the description wrong and we ended up with a small queen room. Receptionist could have paid more attention to what I was saying and offered to upgrade us for free or a charge instead of acknowledging there was an issue. Also, vanity drain hole either dirty or stained but otherwise the room was clean.
It is a good and clean and descent sized cabin for small family, air conditioning is at the living room area so need to open the bedroom doors to keep the cool air going through, descent kitchenette with hot plate and microwave/oven to cook and heat your meal, easy access to local shops and good amenities. I suggest to increase safety measures in the pool area to prevent injury as I hurt myself and a couple of friends while walking in the pool.
It was just an overnight stay for my father and I to attend a family wedding the next day. At 88 my father is unsteady on his feet so he benefited from being in Room 1 which is equipped with rails, no shower hob, etc in the bathroom. The rooms are dated with eclectic furniture, so not to everyone's tastes if you expect something modern. The host is very friendly, the rooms are very clean and everything appears to be well-maintained. One of the nicest motel stays I've had in a while. For dinner we ate next door at the Australia Hotel. Both meals were great.
We stayed in a double and single room, which was certainly spacious enough for the three of us. The room was air-conditioned and the bed, comfortable. Bathroom facilities were just down the hallway, and there was a communal fridge nearby where guests could store their drinks and food. The restaurant downstairs had a good selection of food, and the bar was open until 1.30am if you wanted to stay up late and catch up with friends over a drink. Daniel, who was the manager on the afternoon we were there, helped me with a few car troubles, and I found the rest of the staff friendly and courteous. I would recommend this hotel if you are looking to stay in Cessnock for one or two nights.
I stayed at this motel for a week on my travels through NSW, and would definitely stay again. Bob and his wife were very accommodating and knowledgeable of the Hunter region. We stayed in one of the front rooms, but hardly heard any noise during the night, even with the windows slightly open, despite the motel being on the main road into Cessnock. Although you can easily drive past and miss it as the motel and its car park are set back from view. The room itself was standard for a motel room - comfy bed, Aircon, small bar fridge, kettle, tea/coffee, good size shower, and a good size desk to work from. Internet access was also good, and they do have WiFi available. Only downside most people would see is that there isn't much in walking distance, so you'll need to drive. The main centre of Cessnock is 5mins up the road, with supermarkets and restaurants around. Pokolbin is about 11kms up the road, an easy drive, where you'll find all the wineries - sone of which have restaurants also. If I was coming back to the Hunter Valley again in the future, I'd definitely stay here again.
While the grounds are lovely and the rooms are very nice from the outside and very large inside they are really in need of renovations and some updated furniture. The walls badly need a paint and the furniture is very old and worn. The table in our unit was glass topped and not very clean. It wobbled on its legs so much it was hard to sit at. There is a lovely pub at the front of the location but unfortunately it was not open on the nights we stayed except for one (even though when we rang them prior to arriving they said they would be) and there is no other place to eat at unless you want to drive to them so we had to improvise. We tried to use the oven and cooktop but they are so old that it was very difficult to heat anything up. I really thought that places would have used the long lock down we have just come out of to make sure everything would be sparkling clean and everything in working order. The dust on the lamps and lamp bulbs was an inch thick. Surely these accommodation places should be making sure everything has been cleaned for people to stay especially because of Covid. I had to wipe everything down with disinfectant wipes just to make sure. Don't rely on the reception area being open as it is closed most of the time. I rang to confirm my booking and had to leave a message but I am still waiting on the phone call back and we have been home for 4 days now. It is very disappointing as we were really looking forward to getting away for a few days after being in lock down for so long. The area is lovely to go for a visit though I just probably wouldn't stay here again.
