We chose this hotel as a little staycation over Christmas holidays mainly for the pool and waterslide, which my nieces had a great time in. We ordered dinner from the restaurant next to the pool, which was pretty disappointing- most of the food went uneaten. Maybe it would have been better to eat in. The room was good, clean enough with the amenities we needed. We chose a pool side room since spending time in the pool was our main focus. The hotel provides a folding table and chairs to set up outside the room's patio doors on the pool deck which was great. Overall a nice little staycation!
The hotel has good space, particularly spacious passages, high floors, and good facilities. Because of the epidemic, the breakfast provided is cold packed bread🥯
There is free parking, a free swimming pool, suitable for bringing children, but due to the epidemic we did not go to the swimming pool and gym, breakfast in the hotel should be ok, but during the epidemic it is relatively simple, but the price is a bit more expensive than other hotels

We tried many locations for a room for the night when we came into Thunder Bay on a road trip. After 5 hotels said they were full we called the Nor’ Western. Staff were very friendly and helpful from the first phone call to find out if they had a room and they did. Lana in the restaurant was very friendly and so easy to talk to. We are so happy we ended up here for the night before going to Winnipeg. The patio area is beautiful. Staff are very friendly and helpful. We would gladly stay here again.
We’re in Thunder Bay, less than 10 minutes from Thunder Bay International Airport. Enjoy hiking at Mount McKay, which is six kilometers from us. Shopping and dining options are available at Intercity Shopping Center, which is 15 minutes away. We have an indoor pool, fitness center, and a meeting room with space for up to 120 people.
The location of the hotel is superior, it is very convenient for shopping, eating and traveling, the room is relatively large, the facilities are newer, and the bed is very comfortable. For breakfast, the child ordered a waffle sausage set at the restaurant downstairs (extra charge), but no sausage was served. When checking out, he said he thought we didn't want sausage but we were willing to pay for the set? The waiter's brain circuit is very strange.
Hotel looks good & is undergoing renovations, but the renovations are superficial. Heat doesn't work in some rooms, shower curtains too short, and shower heads installed incorrectly. Everything is being done very cheaply. Be aware that they will put a $250 hold on your credit card for a damage deposit that will not be released for at least 3-5 business days. Make sure that you are checking on this to see that you are refunded the money. I would not recommend this hotel for any solo female traveler. I did not feel safe during my recent stay. I specifically asked not to be placed in a ground floor ”drive-up” room, as the sliding doors are not properly secured. I was put in one of those rooms because the hotel was full, despite having made my reservation over a month ago. When the shuttle dropped me off, the front entrance was blocked by individuals, smoking, who appeared to be under the influence - they were trying to coerce an Indigenous man to join them on the other side of the parking lot. There were loud vehicles in the parking lot most of the night. There were men knocking on random room doors throughout the night. Beer cases littering the hallways. Dismissive front desk staff. It will be the last time staying at the Valhalla - which is too bad as it used to be one of the nicest hotels in Thunder Bay.
This hotel and staff, were a pleasure to encounter and deal with. I was made to feel like a valued client. Excellent room, very clean, great breakfast, and plenty of parking with at least two places to eat of drink within 100 feet of the hotel. I give this a 5/5!
The location is very good, very close to the lake, the hotel is renovated, the room design is interesting, relatively new, the breakfast is satisfactory, you can see the lake view, the parking space behind the hotel is limited

王王The hotel is quite satisfactory, the rooms are small and the facilities are okay. The parking lot is spacious and free. There are not many supermarkets and places to eat around. The price/performance ratio is so-so.
GGuest UserStayed here one night as a group in 2 rooms. Would definitely recommend it for Thunder Bay, seems like it might be the nicest property in town. Some details... --Rooms are typical Hampton Inn, and kept very clean. --Beds reasonably comfortable. --Bathrooms plenty big enough and everything works. --Common areas are, again, standard Hampton Inn stuff, but all quite new. --Front desk folks were always nice and helpful. --Rate was maybe a smidge on the high side for this level of property, but not exorbitant. --Pool is in good shape, if a bit smallish. --One tip - actually getting into the parking lot is a bit confusing. You have to turn south at a stop light well west of the property, then go down towards a different hotel, before turning to get to the Hampton Inn. No signage indicating this if driving eastbound. Be aware. I would recommend it and stay here again when in town. It is a bit distant from the main downtown area but otherwise it checks all the boxes.
As we walked into the suite, we thought: what a nice room! It had a kitchen with a table and chairs and the beds of course. Linens were clean and the overall cleanliness of the room seemed great at first glance. The beds and shower head were decent.. As I walked into the bathroom, I noticed dust bunnies in the corners of the room behind the toilet. Not too big a deal. It appeared as though the person renting the room before us had a bit of a poop explosion because there were poop spatters (or what appeared to be) on the wall under the toilet paper roll and door. I attempted to wipe the spatter on the door up... thinking this can't be poop but yes...it was brown in colour. I didn't bother trying to remove the poop spatters from the textured wallpaper. The ice bucket was very dirty with lots of dust and the colander was dirty too. I just made sure to wash it in the kitchen sink with the dish soap that was available before using it. Had I stayed more than one night, I would have brought it up to the attention of the staff but my stay was very brief so I just dealt with it. Would I return? Yes. Breakfast was good, great coffee, clean pool and spa. The staff was very professional and helpful. The pool guy took pride in his work. Overall, it was good. Housekeeping just has to pay closer attention to the little things.
GGuest UserOne night stay on a Monday night. Room was nice enough, breakfast in the third floor breakfast room was good - seems to mostly the usual pre-made food but the ”quiche” and some nice sourdough bread felt a little bit nicer than at some other hotels. Location seems just okay to me - the things we wanted to do were a bit more ”downtown” but I suppose that depends on what you are doing while you are in town. Close to the airport, several restaurant options and two Metro grocery stores. Seemed like one of the better Thunder Bay options we had available given the corporate rate I got.
SSheumaisI found this hotel on TripAdvisor but as usual there was no contact information. I found a website but the contact phone number was for a call center in the USA where they only speak English or Spanish. This is CANADA,NOT the USA! Very poor. I found the address, drove across town and went in. The front desk agent was very pleasant, gave me a really affordable rate and answered all my questions. I was hauling a trailer and he directed me to a side parking lot with good lighting and video surveillance. The room was very nice and included a rerigerator but no microwave. There was also a 51” LCD TV and King size bed. Although nice, the King bed made the room tight to navigate. The room could have been just a little larger. What was really annoying was the coat rack / cabinet. The rack was 6' off the floor! I had to stand on a chair to hang up my coat and other clothes. Not everyone is 6' tall! I was up early as I had another long day of driving ahead. Continently breakfast was included and I arrived at the breakfast room when it opened at 0630h. They had all the usual things for continental breakfast. It was very good and there was no waiting as I was the only one in the room. Check out in the morning was very efficient by another agent (blonde female, sorry I forgot her name) who was also very pleasant. I will stay here again on my way through Thunder Bay. *Note, 3 stars because there was no local phone number to call and speak directly to the hotel and the poorly designed coat rack.
We were visiting an old friend whom we hadn't seen in almost 50 years, and Thunder Bay was a 2 night stay on our journey west. We booked the motel in advance for one night initially. The room was a good size and clean with most amenities. However, I couldn't find a coffee maker and went to the front desk to inquire. The gentleman told me that they don't keep coffee makers in the room because they get stolen, but there were a few available upon request. Later on, my wife needed a hair dryer, but none could be found as most are attached to the wall...so I went to the front desk again. Yep, you guessed it. There aren't any in the room as they get stolen, but a few were available upon request. Both the coffee maker and hair dryer were to be left in the room upon our departure. As we were meeting our friend for lunch the next day, I booked a second night. When I went outside the next morning, I noticed a brown spot on the white hood of my truck. There was a cigarette butt and ashes as someone from the balcony above had flicked a lit cigarette from the second floor. The next night, I parked my truck away from the second floor. Although the motel only deserves a 2 star rating, I gave it a 3 due to the accommodating staff and descent room. If you do need to stay in Thunder Bay, book in a better part of town.
ZZHIBINThe environment is average. It is worse than other Super 8s. On the main street, the whole building is relatively old, the service is ok, and the stairs are too smelly. The door is unlocked, breakfast is OK
GGuest UserThe sheets were crumpled like no replacement, the air in the room was not good, and it was not a taste. There is no elevator in the hotel, and seven or eight pieces of luggage are going to move upstairs. Speaking a little off topic, from Vancouver all the way to the east to the place, I found that the hotels here are generally very expensive, because it is almost 1000 kilometers to the east to find a slightly like hotel, all the way is a small motel It can be seen that this is a stop where driving must stop. The supermarkets, gas stations and restaurants here are very expensive! Come catch up with Vancouver.
The average price for hotels in Thunder Bay is AED 557 on weekdays, and AED 529 on weekends (Friday-Saturday).
