Very Good
GGuest UserI have stayed at the Chateau before and it is good value as well as being an interesting building with many artistic features, there is also an outside pool. Generally, it’s clean but the rooms are a little dusty. The staff are helpful but on my previous stay the restaurant was shut due to staff problems. It was a disappointment but gave it a second chance. However, having booking again, I was told on arrival that the restaurant was not open on Mondays or Tuesdays. Please don’t be fooled by websites as every one I found stated that it was open on these days, so it’s a must to take this into account if you’ve had a long drive and do not want to dine out, you may well want to think again. It does seem to be under staffed as it can be difficult to find anyone if you would like an evening drink.
You would either have to drive fifteen or so minutes into Macon where there are plenty of restaurants or if you prefer a village, drive in the other direction for less than ten minutes and there is a small restaurant next to the station called ‘Aux Dix Vins’ which I recommend and it’s open on Mondays and Tuesdays. The menu and quality is good, with some nice wines to accompany the food and the owner cares about how it’s run.

I booked this hotel because, at a first glance, it looked just fine. Later, I realized I hadn’t read the reviews. That was a mistake. The heatwave in Europe is such that airconditioning is essential and when I did read the reviews of this hotel, I noticed it is an issue. I decided to ring them up, 5 days before we were due to arrive. I told the person on the phone that I was worried about the lack of airconditioning in their hotel, as per the many reviews I read. The receptionist said: “coincidentally, the airconditioning was repaired today”. Really? I double checked and asked her explicitly whether that was the case for the entire hotel. Upon arrival we were given our rooms. “Oh” the receptionist said, “as it happens, the airconditioning in one of the room’s doesn’t work”. Needless to say, I lost it. I confronted her with the telephone call I made and that this was totally unacceptable. I will leave it to the readers of this review what to make of this, I shall refrain of any further remarks. (Do read earlier reviews) In all fairness: the receptionist reacted politely and professionally. She rang up a manager and they offered us a relocation in another hotel. I had to decline this because I was traveling with a 90 year old woman and a relocation would have been too much. We had to put up with the situation. The hotel itself has a very attractive front of house. Nice architecture, wonderful terrace. The lobby and restaurant are stylish and inviting. The back of the house, however, is in sharp contrast with what I just described. The corridors, the lighting and the decor of the rooms are both dated and morose. A totally different style with a distinct lack of character. The phone didn’t work the shower in the bath was difficult to use without flooding the bathroom. The atmosphere was gloomy. We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was good. Service in the restaurant was friendly and prompt. Breakfast was very mediocre and the coffee terrible. The hotel does not have a parking, which I understand. But many hotels in similar situations will have negotiated a discount with private parkings for their guests. This hotel had not. The receptionist we dealt with was excellent as well as the lovely barman, who offered a complimentary drink, following the upheaval about the airconditioning. (I could tell they were uneasy about this, because they are very aware of the problem) The staff in this hotel were great, the problem lies with arrogant management. I do not recommend staying in this hotel. I much prefer a hotel where customers are properly respected.
GGuest UserVery good hotel for a step. Very good welcome, very arranged staff. We were two adults and two children of two years old. We could have communicating rooms and two parapluy beds. Very clean and renovated room. Good litter with real coat. No noise even in the DRC night. I recommend!
A good stop over hotel, not too far from the motorway. Clean and comfortable. Coffee facilities. Shower a good size. Parking secure at night. Receptionists friendly, check in speedy. They had suggestions for a place to eat in the evening and spoke good English as well as French. Would stay here again. We booked though the originals hotel website.
We wanted to spend the night here while on a long drive home from the south of France to the Netherlands. We called around 11:30 PM to inquire about availability for our family of 3. The person answering the phone said yes, no problem and confirmed the price we saw online. When we arrived, we had to reserve a room through a machine at the entrance. We entered ”3 persons”, but then the system offered us only a twin room. The person who had answered the phone was there, he told us he was only the security guard and not the receptionist. He said he supposed there would be a third bed in the room, since we had entered ”3 persons”. However, there was no way to check, because only after paying at the machine we would receive the room number and code to access the room. As it was midnight by then, we booked and paid the room anyway, found out that indeed, it had only two beds. The security guard could not care less about this situation, did not offer any sort of help or solution. Then we took our camping mat - which we luckily had in our car - and one of us slept on the floor. The next morning we went to talk about this at the reception. We were told, in an unfriendly way without any understanding for the unpleasantness of the whole situation, that the security guard had no access to the booking system so he could not tell us about availability on the phone. And that for 3 people we simply should have booked 2 rooms. Which would have cost 160 euros, not really our idea of a budget stay... Aside from this bad experience, the room was okay (for 2 persons), good beds, OK bathroom. We were not happy that it was not possible to switch off the air conditioning, and there was traffic noise in the morning, but this is inherent to booking a hotel near the highway so we did not mind about this.
Here we are in an old campanile, so the indoor and the rooms are always in line with the original ... There are signs of degradation outside the building that it would be worth taking care of. The hotel and restaurant building, lost the traditional buffet of the ”campail” (damage) ... Breakfast is standard and without hot meal.
GGuest UserWe arrived at the hotel at night against 3Uhr because we spontaneously decided that we need a few hours of sleep before the journey continues. Unfortunately we received a room that was not cleaned. There were still dirty towels on the floor, waste was lie everywhere, the beds were not made and I would rather not write to the bathroom. Since at this time nobody was at the reception, we tried to call the emergency number. Unfortunately, despite several attempts, we did not reach anyone there. Since the room was so extremely dirty, we decided to sleep in the car. The reception was occupied again against 6Uhr. We explained to the lady (which was very friendly) what happened. She made another copy of my bank data and staff and pledged that the money would be returned to us. I had also contacted the hotel chain afterwards. I was promised to receive the money. Unfortunately, this has been done so far and despite multiple requests! Request has not been made. So I can now make my final review. If the reception is not occupied, you might better consider check-in there twice. The room would have been large enough and for a few hours of sleep too much. However, the price for it is simply too high. The breakfast we saw when we talked to the reception looked OK, but little choice. Parking is available, but it was very narrow, because the parking was very full. The lady at the reception was very friendly, but actually only spoke French. If you don't know French, it could be difficult to communicate.
