The Macdonald Old England Hotel is well situated, being just a stones throw from the lakeside and the shops in Bowness. The staff are friendly and obliging and the service matches their attitude. Overall, we found the hotel to have all the facilities that we were lookling for and we would be happy to stay there again.

The hotel has its own all-day restaurant, but the food on the menu is not very attractive. If you want, there is a high-scoring restaurant on Google Maps just a few minutes outside the hotel. The lamb, calf and fish seen in the lake area are all delicious. You can also see a rabbit family in the hotel garden. It is indeed the hometown of Peter Rabbit. It is also very convenient to go to the pier. You can take a ferry or rent a battery boat or a rowing boat. The battery boat we rented was because it was sunny that day. The front desk, the porter and the waitress in the restaurant provided excellent service during the two days we stayed there.
