We had a great meal here when we called on the off chance of getting a table. It was a Weds night so we thought it would be quiet, how wrong we were?! Fortunately the lovely Phillipa found us a table and couldn’t do enough for us to make sure everything we wanted was sorted out. We’re both vegetarian and find the veggie options limited in many places we visit, the Lakes was an exception to this rule and the Eagle and Child provided us with excellent choices, we had home cooked veggie chilli and a butternut squash lasagne, perfect after a long walk. I have to mention Phillipa as she encompasses all that good service is about, efficient, engaging, energetic and nothing was too much trouble a real gem of a barmaid, in a homely pub with a roaring fire, what more could you ask for?!

This is a place we come to every so often and always have a great time there. It is a down-to-earth Pub with no pretensions but it has an awful lot going for it. Located in a small village of Ings we tend to drive 10 minutes or so to Grasmere and do a lovely walk from the centre to the round Rydal Water. This is quite tiring so there's something very special about going back to this cosy pub and having a pint of the Windermere beer brewed on the premises. We stayed overnight in our room was small but very comfortable. The bathroom door could do with oiling as it does squeak a bit but other than that Just enjoy the comfortable bed and lovely bedding. Breakfast is included and it is fantastic. Locally sourced food and I challenge you to eat it all!We got the bacon and sausage to Takeaway as it was just too good to leave and some of the best we've ever had. The staff are helpful and friendly and good fun as well. If you want a no stress short break this could be your place and it is highly recommended.

We stayed here for 2 nights having booked a deal for 2 nights stay with dinner on the first night. Firstly, I contacted the hotel prior to our arrival to request a lower/ground floor room due to mobility issues. This was dealt with promptly with confirmation of a room with direct access from the car park - much appreciated. Highlights of our stay that made this hotel stand out are: * customer service - as outlined above * little extras such as sherry/whisky on arrival * fabulous dinner. My partner enjoyed his “southern fried squirrel”! The main courses of rib eye steak and whole plaice were excellent. * Staff - all the staff we encountered were professional, attentive and appeared to enjoy their work. * Breakfast - outstanding choice and presentation. On the second morning we both ordered the full English. Whilst unable to finish it, it filled us up well into the evening. The buffet selection from the table was extensive and excellent quality. *Drinks - the wine list was very good quality and value for a 5 star hotel. *Rooms - nicely furnished and comfortable. Excellent bathroom. We didn’t want to leave. This was our first stay at the Wild Boar and we would not hesitate to return. Hope to be back soon!
We visited the Gilpin Spa Suite for a mini moon following our wedding. We had an incredible time with some of the highlights below: - the llama/alpaca paddock next door provided a wonderful view from our hot tub and bedroom. - the couples massage we had was incredible - the app makes ordering breakfast to your room so easy and it was delicious - the food from Gilpin Spice was excellent. We ordered room service. - I am allergic to orange and they went above and beyond to provide me alternative products to use in the suite. - the staff are amazing; so friendly and approachable. Negatives - my husband arranged for us to check in early (1PM) but we weren’t shown to our suite until 2.20pm. - we later discovered in the suite that the massage chair wasn’t working. It was only by us knowing what was in the room that we checked with reception. The man who showed us our room did not mention the chair to us. We received complimentary massages due to this however. - there is an additional discretionary tip which they add to your bill before you leave, there should be more transparency on this.
I stayed for 3 nights. Graham met me when I arrived. He is very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. My room was at the top of the property and Graham, kindly, took my bag up. The room was a good size with a nice en-suite shower room. The B&B is very well located on a quiet street close to the shops, restaurants and to the station. This was my first time in the Lake District and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the B&B and all the areas I visited while I stayed there. I would highly recommend the White Rose.

The hotel was clean and tidy , and room was adequate for our stay , bed was very comfortable . The staff were very friendly and helpful ,in reception and dining room .The Breakfast was a buffet selection ,self service , with Tea or Coffee, good selection to choose from .The dinner menu was also good ,with a choice of Starters ,Mains & Desserts ,all good wholesome food of a pub type menu. After a day out ,went for a drink in the Ossett Head Bar in the hotel grounds , nice pleasant ambient setting , this was the only time , it never opened again for the duration of our stay. The only other bar is in the dining room , and this was only open , during meal times , no soft furnishings , only dining tables . dont know if you could take drinks from there , into the guest lounge ,never informed. Plentiful supply of Tea & Coffee in room ,which you had to replenish from reception . i am now Tea Total & Alcohol Free after this mini vacation .
Myself and my mum had a wonderful one night stay here. Simona made us feel very welcome from the first phone call for booking, which I recommend doing directly, to arriving and for the duration of the stay. The building is stunning, the stained glass windows and beautiful architecture kept in the period in which it should be. The room was beautiful and spotless, the beds are really comfy. There was a range of hot drinks and biscuits and ice cold water in the room. The shower products are beautiful, they smell divine ! The shower was lovely. Amazing continental breakfast, a range of cereals and fruit and yogurt plus toast. We requested twin beds downstairs which was all catered for. Perfect spot for Bowness and Windermere town, you can walk, about 15/20 minutes to Bowness or there is a bus down as well, 5 minutes into town where there are lots of eating places and shops etc. Made to feel so very welcome, Simon’s is really interesting lady so do stop to chat if she has time, would absolutely recommend staying here, they make you feel like friends not customers. I have already recommended to friends and family. Thank you so much.
