Good bits: our suite was very nice and the breakfast food on offer was good even though you had to come down at a prearranged timeslot. The bad is that the overall management of this hotel, in our experience, was very poor. There were multiple occasions (in just 2 days) when what was arranged and agreed was just not acted upon. Here's some examples: On arrival a member of staff kindly reserved a breakfast table for 4 the following morning (as we were staying with another couple) but it was taken by somebody else when we came down so we had to assume this information wasn't passed to the breakfast team. We then arranged for seating for 5 people at breakfast the following morning - different staff member said that was fine and made a note of the room numbers - yet again this wasn't done and when we asked them to make up an unoccupied table set up for 4 to a 5 (plenty of room to add another chair ) this was refused. Weeks before arriving our friends had asked for their room to be set up as a twin rather than a double but of course that hadn't been done either. We asked for our room not to be serviced during our 2 night stay yet the first morning staff knocked to come in when my partner was on the toilet - again relevant details not passed on. We were told we had reserved parking spot at the rear of the property but parking was a free-for-all. The reception area seemed to be locked up and unmanned most of the time. Yes, there was a bell to ring, but you'd expect a member of staff to be visible especially in the mornings. Finally, whilst most staff were friendly and polite, one senior staff member was off-hand when dealing with a simple request (and we overheard her being brusque with another couple). Her attitude was unpleasant and gave the impression that customers were really a bit of a nuisance. Maybe we just picked a bad weekend so whilst it wasn't a totally awful stay by any means there was enough incidents over a short period to put us off staying there again or recommending it to anyone if it continues to be run in this slack and unprofessional way. I do worry for its future.

Very cozy little hotel, run by a Chinese couple, very friendly and welcoming.
I studied here, came here for a holiday, and settled on this hotel. Although I feel that the house is more chronological, the real number is very well preserved, the decoration is exquisite, clean and tidy, and the details are great.
It is only 5 minutes walk from the train station. The town is not big. It is also very convenient to go to other towns on foot or by bus.
I booked a single room, the decoration made people feel comfortable and warm, and the hygiene was great.
I must call for breakfast. I have been in the UK for a month. This is the best meal I have ever moved.
Overall highly recommended
Environment: A beautiful old English-style house, the interior is exquisite, compact, neat and clean, with many cute little ornaments.
Facilities: Warm bedding, snow-white towels, free sparkling water, welcome milk. There is a hot water kettle and bedside USB socket.
Meals: There are seven or eight set meals to choose from for breakfast. The full English style is very rich. You can even choose low-calorie coffee and low-calorie tea!
Service: The landlord is very kind and gentleman, and can speak ”omelet” and ”poached egg” in Chinese.

We have stayed here many times over a number of years and is always our first choice for the lakes. Jonathan and Caroline are great hosts and always make us feel so welcome and at home when we arrive until the (unfortunate) moment that we leave. Rooms, lounges, facilities and breakfast all excellent. The ethos of making the hotel as green as possible while supporting conservation and promoting local businesses is also very welcome. Also, the afternoon teas are fantastic and well worth the experience or two!!
The hotel has a beautiful environment. Although the place is not large, there is free parking for us to drive. It is very convenient. It only takes about 5 minutes to drive to The World of Beatrix Potter and Bowness Pie ~
The landlady will greet you very warmly and explain to you how to open and close the door and the breakfast time. The room is also very quiet and not in the downtown area. It is a two-minute walk from the library station, and the 599 bus from the station to the hotel is just two stops away. The hotel room is also relatively large, and the bathroom water temperature is sufficient. Apart from the soft mattress, there are no other faults. like
The room is very stylish. Our room was fine except for the street which was noisy. I especially recommend breakfast. You need to book with the front desk before 6pm the night before. It is freshly made in the morning and very delicious! You can't miss it. The hotel is in a good location, walking distance to the train station and Bowness.
Beautiful outstanding property, exceeded our expectations. Bedroom although within the eaves of the property was still very spacious and well equipped. Amazing big shower and plenty of hangers in the wardrobe. A really cosy room. Breakfast both mornings was fantastic, very quick service too. Loved the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon a real treat! We met Hayley and she was very friendly and extremely attentive. The whole property was beautifully decorated and we felt it was 5 star quality
Self-service check-in, the room is fully equipped and you can use the kitchenette area. The scenery outside the window is nice and a very quiet experience. It's a pity that there is no breakfast. The tea and coffee at the bar are complete.

My wife and I booked a last minute trip away over the weekend 2-3 November. We've stayed at a number of hotels and B&B's over the years, in a leisure and business capacity so can be quite choosy. After some due diligence we decided to give Bowness Bay Suites a try. To say we were not disappointed is an understatement! This place is fantastic, the room was spotless, spacious and extremely comfortable. We stayed in the Hilltop Suite - one of 6 in the building and I suspect every one will be of the highest quality. What made the stay extra special was the customer service. Our host Howie met us outside and helped my wife inside with the suitcase as I went to park. (They also offer a great deal for car parking) He is such a lovely guy and you can instantly tell he takes great pride in putting the customer first. He is very friendly, knowledgeable and wants nothing more than for you to enjoy your stay. We would not hesitate to book here again if/when we ever get chance to have another free weekend away from work/grandparent duties :-) Great place, great location, great hosts!
GGuest UserThe overall location of the room is good, very close to Lake Windermere, but the big slope at the door is a bit difficult to climb. We came here by bus 599, and we were exhausted climbing the slope with our suitcases.
The service is very good. The front desk was very enthusiastic after we arrived, and their butler Mike was very talkative. He introduced us to various facilities and had a pleasant chat with the baby. I felt that the service experience was very good as soon as I went there.
The family room we booked is very good. It has typical British windows, a small skylight, and the baby has his own small room. In short, I am super satisfied. Speaking of this, I have to add that the family room taken on the official website is too ugly. No window was taken, so I was worried that the room was not breathable.
The breakfast is still standard, nothing to say, the small courtyard is good, and it is great to come here for a relaxing vacation.
If there is a chance in the future, I will choose to stay here again and recommend it to my friends.
GGuest UserWe stayed in one of the individual 'chalet' style twin room bungalows lining the drive to the main house for 4 nights. These rooms offer a lot of privacy and are quiet with your own front door entrance and windows and balcony with table and chairs overlooking the very pretty and well tended gardens. The beds and bedding were really comfortable, you could control the radiators to your preferred temperature and the bathroom, whilst small, was functional with plenty of hot water and good quality towels. It was really helpful to have allocated parking right outside and all the chalets have this. It's a very short walk to the restaurant/reception. The small bar and restaurant is traditional in style and nicely laid out with many tables offering views of the beautiful gardens. There are plenty of cooked breakfast options and the produce and cooking is exceptional. We ate in the restaurant on two evenings on a DB&B rate. Lovely meals - the lamb cutlets and sea bass fillets in particular were knockout. As others have commented the staff and service is exceptional. From arrival to departure you are made to feel like a very valued guest and nothing is too much trouble from the incredibly efficient and friendly team. There are many other much higher end hotels who could learn customer service from the Burn How. Only a 5 minute walk down the hill to the lake and nearby shops and restaurants, just added to the benefits of staying here. We would definitely book this hotel again if visiting the area, and would highly recommend.
GGuest UserFrom the moment we arrived we were made to feel special and welcomed. We had drinks in the lounge area and veranda enjoying the spectacular views. The staff were all dressed smartly, and I got the impression they all loved working there. I had booked for my wife’s birthday and had also booked a table in the Henrock restaurant inside the hotel. The food was amazing, delicious and perfectly presented and served. Each delicious course was the lead up to the most amazing dessert I have ever eaten, and it was a rhubarb based dessert, which under normal circumstances is a contradiction where desserts are concerned normally, however this was an explosion of delicious tastes and textures. Would highly recommend this hotel and restaurant and we both hope to return, sooner rather than later.
YYifanThis house was built in 1850. This house can be checked in through a password. The bed is soft and comfortable, the room is very warm, and the hot water is sufficient. It is a little bit far from the railway station, but very close to the lake. A good trip experience!
GGuest UserOur views on our visit to The Belsfield Hotel are rather mixed. It is an imposing and impressive building in a fantastic location overlooking the lake. Check in was good with all required information provided. Unfortunately upon entering our room ( room 30 ) we were disappointed as it was not as I expected. I had booked a suite as we have done several times at other hotels . Previously we have found a suite has consisted of a separate room for relaxing with the bedroom attached. On this occasion it was a larger bedroom with a sitting area and small table for two. The hotel’s website does state that a suite may , or may not , have a separate lounge area and so on this occasion I accepted we had drawn the short straw . No issues there . However the website also states the suites offer stunning views and a roll top bath . There was no roll top bath as promised, only an older standard plastic panelled bath. As we are planning on restyling our bathroom assessing a roll top bath in practice was one of the features that swayed our decision to stay here . With regard to the stunning views . When sitting at the table in our room having a coffee before breakfast our view was what appeared to be an old , derelict greenhouse / storage building . Not exactly an appealing view to begin your day . When I mentioned this at check out I was told by the member of staff that another company deals with the website description and so nothing to do with him . A rather strange and dismissive response and not the lasting impression you want when leaving the hotel . Overall the hotel is a very enjoyable place to visit with several areas to relax on the ground floor . Sitting on the terrace overlooking the lake was fantastic and would thoroughly recommend it . A special mention for Lucien who did a fantastic job of providing cocktails and was very knowledgeable and proficient in this . A credit to the hotel . The hotel has so many good points that may , for some , outweigh the negatives around the room but unsure if we would return or recommend.
GGuest UserLow Wood Bay exceeded our expectations. It is such a hidden gem in that it looks like an ordinary hotel from the main road but inside it is anything but that! The interiors are absolutely beautiful (gosh this place even smells incredible too!) The staff are all incredibly friendly, helpful and welcoming - nothing is too much trouble for them. We are in both restaurants and the food and service were both outstanding - highly recommend the Wood-fired afternoon tea. Rooms are clean and comfortable, with a few nice touches when you arrive. We also used the spa whilst we were there and it’s simply wonderful. One of the best I have ever been to. Extra touches and beautiful spaces make for an incredibly relaxing experience. I would highly recommend a visit to Low Wood Bay.
GGuest UserRoom was a good size. Plenty of parking available. Swimming pool was nice. Nice view of the lake from the gardens. Very friendly staff. Lovely food. Pleasant gardens. The lounge was relaxing with nice sofa .
Some minor issues:
Lack of shower pressure , toilet wouldn't flush properly, blood stain on the floor of the toilet, took ages to get hot water through for showering
GGuest UserWent here for just an overnight on our wedding anniversary. We are in our 70's (just in my wife's case) and celebrating 23 years of a 'second chance' Room was perfect with large balcony, enabling us to make the most of a day of sunshine. Chocolates and wine left for us and everything spotless. From checking in to dining through advice on the area to checking out - staff were perfect in their attention. Had table as requested next to windows, for the view, for dinner Restaurant service also could not be faulted. In Ireland for a wedding on our anniversary next year but will need another visit here well before then.
GGuest UserThe hotel was clean and tidy , and room was adequate for our stay , bed was very comfortable . The staff were very friendly and helpful ,in reception and dining room .The Breakfast was a buffet selection ,self service , with Tea or Coffee, good selection to choose from .The dinner menu was also good ,with a choice of Starters ,Mains & Desserts ,all good wholesome food of a pub type menu. After a day out ,went for a drink in the Ossett Head Bar in the hotel grounds , nice pleasant ambient setting , this was the only time , it never opened again for the duration of our stay. The only other bar is in the dining room , and this was only open , during meal times , no soft furnishings , only dining tables . dont know if you could take drinks from there , into the guest lounge ,never informed. Plentiful supply of Tea & Coffee in room ,which you had to replenish from reception . i am now Tea Total & Alcohol Free after this mini vacation .
