We stayed at the Econo Lodge in Marion, Virginia for a couple of nights in July 2023. The hotel is dated, but well-maintained. Our King room was very clean. It had a couch, a refrigerator, and a microwave oven. We were placed on the back-side of the building, which seems to be the non-smoking section. We didn’t hear any highway noise, but we did hear the freight trains roll by at around 5:30 AM every morning. The back side of the building faces the train tracks, which are only about 450 feet away. The hotel serves coffee and packaged honey buns in a small dining area adjoining the front desk. There are numerous fast food restaurants serving breakfast near the hotel. We recommend this Econo Lodge for its good value and clean accommodations.

I was tired, I needed to stop / rest for the night, and this location was available. Positives - the parking lot was lighted at night. The room and bathroom were clean. Negatives - (1) Noise from the nearby interstate is unavoidable. (2) Noise from a someone's argument at 4:40 am from the room next to me was as silly as my time spent describing it. Someone had forgotten to pack a skillet. So, at 4:40 am, they needed everyone on the second floor - within hearing & hollering range to know about it. And for all those persons on the first floor, who didn't get to hear about the forgotten ”____ ____ skillet” at 4:40 am, they got to hear something else. At 4:52 am, I looked out of my window because these two had argued down the steps, down the sidewalk, and were slamming doors on their vehicle. Suddenly, a guest two doors down from me yelled, ”Hey, you son of a _____'s down there.” There was an instant silence followed by a pathetic attempt to squeal the tires of the 1970's model truck they were driving. It sounded like the engine was only hitting on about 3 of 8 cylinders as it backfired when the four barrel carburetor kicked open and started sucking air like a hive of angry bees while a cloud of blue oil smoke gushed from its well rotted exhaust pipe and replaced the yellow-orange glow of fog in the street lights. I got up, got dressed, and went on my way.
