Hotel is nice and clean, great hotel to stay with family. Very nice lobby area to sit and relax with family. Rooms are comfortable and spacious. Would definitely recommend this hotel. Pool is still closed due to Covid.
I arrived several hours early from my flight into Newark, and the front desk staff with whom I interacted was extremely kind, helpful, accommodating, and personable. And upon leaving, Clarizza was able to help me check out within seconds, and I was on my way to my next destination. Very pleased with my entire experience here. The room was spotless, the bed was comfortable, and I was able to breathe without smelling smoke! I love how seriously this hotel takes its non-smoking policy.

I enjoyed my stay and it was most helpful to have a nice room as I was working on a project and was able to make great progress as I had a clean, quiet environment. I appreciate very much the weekly rates. I appreciate that maid service comes along at my request and they don't disturb my routine. I found it quiet, although there is some luck involved, since people may have pets that bark or they may play music. I mostly had quiet. The amenities are almost the same as a true hotel, for instance I had a microwave and refrigerator in the room, which you don't always get in a budget motel. The tv was excellent with plenty of channels. It's nice that the motel is big, so you can usually get availability. It's one of the best Motel 6 motels I have been to in the US and I have been to many. It's also a great general location, since you have easy access to New York City via the NJT train. Neighborhood is nice, you can walk immediately to some fast food and other restaurants, a Starbucks, a couple of bars, and the Walmart, and if you have a car there are many, or almost endless options.
We stayed at this hotel after comparing prices and location with two other nearby brands, Hampton inn and suites and holiday inn express. The reviews gave it a good rating, and the pictures of the lobby looked promising. Thank heavens I was only here with my son for one evening. The hotel Staff checking us in continued to eat his snack, a Twix bar, during the check in process. Taking my license and credit card with one hand and having the Twix in the other. We were given the furthest room on the second floor from the lobby - and not told what the easiest way to get there - mind you we had a cooler and some bags - and we weren’t told there were no elevators. This hotel was not sold out. Walking down the hallway there were some minor stains on the carpet and walls, and some rooms with towels at the bottom of their doors- either to keep smells in, or something out…. Upon entering our room we saw that it was clean but clearly dated. It was in a dire need of renovation. The bathroom had stains on the walls, lights that were out and the smallest bath towels you could imagine. If this was for anymore then one evening, we wouldn’t have stayed and I would’ve asked for a refund. The hotel manager did come out of the office during my check in experience and speak to the staff about putting his Twix down. And when we left the lobby area I could hear him talking about figuring out a process of how to check people in. So hopefully they get that figured out. But they seriously need help with the rooms. This should’ve been a $75 night and then I wouldn’t be writing this…
Check in Fri evening. Check out Sat noon. Pros: -Check out is at noon -Location is very accessible -There is a restaurant on the first floor of the hotel so you do not have to leave the premises if you do not have to. -The front of the building and the lobby look presentable. Cons: -My TV only had 7 stations (local over the channel stations only) even though the guide lists dozens of channels. I contacted the front desk on Sat morning to let them know, I was told the maintenance guy does not come in until 09:30. I was told he would come take a look at it when he arrived. 10:20 still no response or maintenance guy. I called again. I was offered to be moved from room 254 to 154. I told the lady I will prefer a room on any floor except the first floor. I was told no other room will be available until after 1pm when the rooms have been checked out and cleaned. I then told them I would take room 154, that when I was told that the TV issue was not ”really a maintenance or TV issue, it had to do with their cable provider” and they can not guarantee that I will be able to watch more channels in any other room. I was too shocked to even give them a response. -The carpets in the hallways are filthy with visible dirt and bleach marks ( I have many pictures). They also have a strong musky smell to them. -One of the elevators worked perfectly but the 2nd elevator really smells like something died in there. Just sad. -The only floors with ice machines are floors 2 and 4. -Plot twist- both ice machines on floors 2 and 4 were not working! -The best looking part of the hotel is the front and the lobby, everything else is dilapidated. - I overheard a lady asking why she was told she had to pay for breakfast when it is advertised that breakfast was included, someone was explaining to her that breakfast was included if you paid for breakfast with your reservation. I do not even know what that means but I never ate breakfast there. I was so disappointed about my stay that on my way out, I had to tell the ladies at the front desk that the management really needs to do better. It appears no one cares, they just care about booking rooms and not updating or cleaning the hotel.
We have never been disappointed with a stay at a Hampton Inn and the South Plainfield location continued the trend. The staff was so nice, helpful, and genuine. They are so friendly and ask about your stay and activities, etc. The rooms are a good size and the bathrooms have lots of counter space and good water pressure in the shower. We were a little concerned about being on the ground floor near reception, but there really wasn't any noise in the hallway. There is definitely highway noise, but it's really not bad. The included breakfast is wonderful - the make-your-own waffles are fabulous and there are always plenty of other options. Super nice staff at the buffet, too. The gym has a nice set-up and we didn't use the pool because it was outside, but it looked fine for summer stays. I'm so pleased to see the chain has switched from single-use bottles for things like shampoo and conditioner, etc. Now, if they could just find a way to get rid of all the extra packaging for the coffee/tea station in the room, that would be wonderful. This chain is so consistent in the quality, service, and staffing, and I would highly recommend this location.
Our ”confirmed” and ”guaranteed” ADA room with two queen beds and a roll-in shower was not ready for our Sunday arrival shortly after the 4:00 pm check-in time. We waited in the lobby. The first room readied had a tub, not a roll-in shower. We had to change rooms. The second room offered had one king bed instead of two queens -- $20 per night upcharge not mentioned until emailed charges/receipt two days later. The room was hot on entry. We were not comfortable until an hour and a half after arrival. Second-worst check-in in over four decades of regular travel. My breakfast included good coffee, nice scrambled eggs, way-overcooked ”vegetarian sausage” (the only bacon/sausage offering), way-past-prime honeydew melon, and a chilly blueberry muffin. The sausage and melon went into the trash. My wife's bagel went untoasted because of the long wait for the toaster. Her melon also went into the trash. And she said her unfinished orange juice tasted ”off”. We did not stay for our next day's breakfast. The facility is very nice and our suite was well-designed and clean, but our check-in, billing, and breakfast experiences mean that we can't recommend staying here.
