Hotel Raymond VII

The hotel is situated in the center of Cordes-sur-ciel. The room is large and clean. I enjoyed the stay very much as well as the view from the window. It was a national holiday the day I checked in and I could not take public transport to the hotel as planned, the hotel staff has been kind and helpful, and with their help I was able to get to the hotel despite the hiccup. If you are visiting France and want to explore unique places, you have to stop by Cordes-sur-Ciel. It's a wonderful village located in the Tarn department, in the region of Occitania, Southern France. When you approach the place by car, it's as if a massive hill, full of medieval-era buildings, appears out of nowhere. And once you reach the top, the views are simply breathtaking. the village is renowned for its winding and enchanting streets. Its unique location and architectural style make it one of the most distinctive medieval towns in France The Hotel Raymond VII is situated in the heart of this medieval village, dating back to the 13th century. It offers an authentic and cozy atmosphere, with its interiors preserving the original charm: French ceilings, exposed beams, and warm colors. Staying there felt like stepping into a castle from Game of Thrones. I was particularly fond of my room, adorned with a red carpet, two king-size beds, and furniture that exuded a timeless ambiance reminiscent of bygone eras. And most important of all: the breathtaking views. Being situated near the top of this grand hill, when you open the windows of your room, you are greeted with awe-inspiring vistas of the French countryside: sprawling green landscapes, clusters of trees, and picturesque plantations. It feels like gazing at the most exquisite painting come to life. Therefore, I highly recommend this hotel solely for the fact that it transports you back in time, offering a remarkable experience of staying in the past. It truly is a remarkable and unforgettable experience.

The Hotel Raymond resembles a Gothic horror movie location. Entry passes through a gloomy moss covered courtyard. Rooms are reached up a grand medieval staircase of black oak. In the hallway a life-sized court jester sits menacingly on pedestal with an owl perched on his red-hooded head. Our reserved family suite was two rooms decorated in second hand chic overlooking the damp courtyard, not the Grand Rue Raimond as hoped, but at least attractively priced. The rooms across the hall with valley views looked much more inviting. Breakfast was excellent, warm-baked croissants and good coffee. I do not remember any concerns about cleanliness. I would stay again, but in one of the valley view rooms. As someone else wrote getting to the hotel is an adventure. Walking uphill to the old town, on a rainy day with soaked pavement and 20% slopes was very difficult. I do not recommend driving a car to the hotel through the city gates, unless maybe it is a small four wheel drive. We attempted this with a small sedan and became perilously entrapped. There are narrow streets with hair-pin turns, plus a constant concern for scraping bottom on centuries old carriage rutted cobblestone streets.
