I've stayed annually at this b&b for over twenty years, initially with my father who was born in the town, up until his illness and subsequent passing four years ago. Dinny Hannafin has been the most welcoming and friendly proprietor that we could wish for and he ensured our stays were like home from home. The continental breakfast has a wonderful selection of cereals, juices, fruits, yoghurts, fresh home made breads, ham, cheese, tea and coffee. There's no limits and he ensures that you head off on your journey happy and well fed. The bedrooms are always very clean and well presented. Over the years the proprietor has hosted many hill walkers, cyclists, tourists and people involved in the local fish industry from all corners of the world. The b&b is a very short walk to the town where there are restaurants with good local produce and bars. Being loyal to my father, a visit to Felix & Rosemary at O'Donoghues Bar in the square is a must for a beautiful lunch or a quiet evening drink.

Great location walking distance to town, comfy bed, good showers. But......an Irish bed and breakfast where there's no cooked breakfast is a no-no for me. The look I got when I asked if there was any hot food was priceless. The bread, yogurt, cereals etc were fine but over decades staying in Irish bed and breakfasts this is the first time where a cooked breakfast was not on offer. Would have stayed somewhere else if I'd known in advance. Not good enough

As many other bad reviews say: the attitude of the owner is despicable! Due to an unforeseen series of events, we finally arrived one hour after the allegedly closing time (which was 8 PM). The owner greeted us with aggresive yells and screams, harassed us verbally and continuously kept yelling: "have you read your contract? Apologies are not enough!" He was extremely rude, and as a woman I felt humiliated and felt very unsafe to continue to stay there, in the house of a hysterical owner! In the morning he refused to give us coffee and breakfast "because we complained to ***********". Around 7:30 in the morning we left (the booking was for 3 days). He refused to give us our money back but we will forward our complaint to an European Consumers' center and close Booking account if they continue to encourage this type of harassment.

We usually stay in another B&B when we come to CTB, but as it was booked out this weekend we stayed in Island View House. The facilities were spotless, Bruno and Dennis were lovely hosts, but the best part was the breakfast. We couldn’t believe the size of the cooked breakfast, two of them fed a family of four. Absolutely excellent food. There was also a buffet of cereals, breads and fruit. Just lovely. We would stay again just for the food (and the pets!)

A 2 night weekend break in Castletownbere was made even better by a stay at The Island View. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and the mattress was extremely comfortable. Guests are able to make their own hot drinks, and it was a pleasure to sit outside with a cuppa on the garden seat overlooking Bere Island and the harbour whilst listening to nature singing away, perfect. Breakfast is outstanding with a great choice including freshly baked bread and top quality fry ingredients. The location is ideal for walking into the town where there is a good choice of bars and restaurants and for the ferry over to Bere Island. There are ample parking spots for all guests. A great place to stay whilst in the area.

Dennis the owner was one of the friendliest people we met in Ireland (where everyone is friendly). Very knowledgeable of everything local. Beautiful view from our room window of Bere Island and the trawlers as they entered the harbor. Great evening by the fire in the front room. Breakfast was fresh in the dining room with the view. Room was very clean and comfortable. Would recommend to anyone.

Island View House is within walking distance to local amenities. Clean and spacious accommodation with a shared lounge area - the best was relaxing in front of the fireplace! Will definitely visit again if we come through Castletownbere.
