R2 Rio Calma

Nice hotel we had a lovely suite but Iinfortunately also had a view of the building works going on outside The hotel is very remote indeed we did lots of walking to get anywhere it's either walking,taxi or hire a car Probably ideal for people who just want to stay at hotel

R2 Rio Calma is a really nice hotel. The food was ok, but with low quality products. The swim pools are great, the view is amazing. I loved the nights when there was live classical music in Lobby (every night). Also huge plus for Netflix / Disney etc. From the bad parts - some parts of hotel were closed (Eden, couple of outside bars). The hotel overall is a bit outdated and the gym could be better (wonderful in next R2 Rio. Overall I am very satisfied :)

Spent a wonderful week at Rio Calma in Mid November and are already planning to return for a longer stay. Hotel reception is an amazing cathederalesk vaulted expanse, with settee seating areas and the hotel bar. We enjoyed our pre and post dinner drinks here listening to the sound of the evening pianist playing during dinner service. Our standard double room was in the annex, a lovely location within the grounds, with a garden view and sunrise from the balcony through the palm trees. The room was well appointed with a sizeable bathroom with excellent powerful over bath shower. The room staff, Doris, made sure our room was perfect every day and our only change would have been for a double bed rather than two single beds pushed together. The gardens are well landscaped and maintained with the plants and palm trees enhanced with lighting at night. We really enjoyed a few romantic walks around the grounds late in the evening and sitting outside the entertainment bar on one of the many garden settees on the patio. The infinity pool, with its waterfall is a bracing but refreshing way to cool down and the shallower second pool, being heated for winter season, was a welcoming 23 degrees. I really enjoyed the fun aqua aerobics session being held here daily. There were plenty of sunbeds available and we booked one of the romantic four poster double sunloungers a couple of times and really enjoyed the included fruit platter and bottle of bubbly. The buffet restaurant had a very wide range of food options available both at breakfast and dinner service; with freshly cooked omelets or fried eggs for those who asked at breakfast and fish and meat options cooked to order at dinner service. We loved the beautifully made delicate mini cake deserts. We ate both in the restaurant and outside on the terrace, enjoying the terrace a little more as there was background music. Being up on the cliff away from the town it was helpful that there are three shops on the reception level (level 6) providing souvenirs, swimming attire, jewellery and other gifts. One providing a small selection of sweets, snacks, water, alcohol, cigarettes, vapes, toys and magazines. We found all the staff to be very friendly and welcoming, even helping me with my attempts at ordering in Spanish. On the down side building work has started on the area where the crazy golf course used to be, which does mean periodic noise but they were doing the initial ground work during our stay so is probably not long term and there are a few patches of tiles missing on the infinity pool floor and curving infinity wall, however timing for any repair if in daily use throughout the year is probably the issue.

My boyfriend and I have just spent 10 nights at the r2 rio, overall we have had a lovely holiday and I would recommend. So many positives about the hotel, staff on the whole were pleasant and friendly, just a couple of female (older) staff in the restaurant came across grumpy and not appearing to enjoy their job! The rooms were very clean, credit to the staff, and although on the smaller side were adequate for us. The hotel has a lovely feel about it, the design is beautiful inside and out. The bars vary depending on what you are looking for, the bar in the entrance was our go too, with a man playing the piano on an evening it was relaxing and a nice place to sit and have a chat. We didn't see any of the evening entertainment so can't comment on this. The outside seating in the main bar was nice on an evening with the beautiful water fountain. Areas which we did find slightly disappointing was the all inclusive restaurant. Although there is something for everyone, it just all got a little bit boring. Same things most nights, but we made the most of it and never felt hungry. The drinks are as you would expect in an all inclusive, large measures!! We did eat at the Edan a la carte one night, honestly not thr best meal we have had. Beautiful surroundings, but the food was not fine dining. It was nice to have a bottle of wine we both enjoyed an to have silver service but wouldn't recommend for what they charge. You have to hire a kettle, €20, which felt a lot but I needed my cuppa so paid it!! The hotel is definitely spending a lot of money upgrading the outside area where the mini golf use to be, and there is work starting to be carried out where the infinite pool ends, they also replaced all the dining chairs and tables while we were there. The hotel has had a lot of poor reviews, so we went with an open mind. Honestly all in all it's a lovely hotel and we did enjoy our stay. Well done R2 Rio nf thank you.

DON'T LISTEN TO BAD REVIEWS! This hotel is brilliant in every way. Food was amazing every day so much choice & always cooked fresh & very tasty,please please don't listen to bad reviews everything in this hotel is amazing. The hotel was so beautiful . The pools best ever you'll find.All the staff where so helpful & friendly. We stayed for 2 weeks 1st November- 13th November & can't wait to go back next November. The weather was very hot & November the winds are very calm.We hired a car & went to 16 beaches & wow they where amazing. One of the best hotels we have ever stayed at.The gardens where so beautiful & the pools also where so big & beautiful .Our room was beautiful with a beautiful sea view . 5-10 minutes a lovely walk to a amazing beach, with great snorkeling or a beach at hotel also.The entertainments in the evening wow,lady playing a violin while you eat your meal,drinks in lobby man playing piano & band or Dj's & bands in 2 other bars loved dancing the evenings away. Plenty of free parking & WiFi was good everywhere in hotel & is free also.Sorry to repeat myself but don't miss out on this beautiful hotel by listening to the bad reviews this place is amazing .

Booked the Royal Suite for the week. Wow what a room and so close to pools. Considering how busy the hotel is it’s so calm and relaxed with very little noise. So far the Staff have been amazing and so helpful. Food excellent and such a variety. Brilliant hotel looking to book again.
