The staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating. The bed was very comfortable. The room was small and rather ‘tired’. The towel rail fell down while I was showering and the light on one side of the bed wouldn’t turn on. I was concerned for the number of extension leads around the room - is this safe?

Stayed for 2 nights during a business trip and would definitely stay again. My room was in the main part of the hotel. It was large, clean and had everything I needed. Bed was comfortable, somewhere to hang my clothes, a hairdryer and teas/coffee's. The toiletries were lovely and plenty of towels (in fact, too many for me!). We had an evening meal during our stay, I had the chicken basket and a colleague had the burger. Both meals were great portion sizes, hot and delicious. The manager was lovely, nothing was too much trouble for her and she always made sure I had 2 cups of tea! Breakfast was continental, although you can have a cooked breakfast for an extra cost. On-site parking available too. I would definitely stay again.

The Lawns Pie Night.(What a Rip off) Just been to the Lawns Hotel, to try their promotional "Pie Night". A better title would have been " Pie Taster Night" or "Share a Pie Night". The portion of Pie was minuscule and the quality very poor. It's very unfortunate the people of Chellaston have little choice locally when it comes to Pub food meaning the Lawns can get away with this. My advise make the effort to travel a little further if you are looking for quality food it will be worth it.

Pillows had no protectors and we're stained really bad. Asked them to replace or double case. On Return they'd re cased the original pillows I'd left out but only once. Only 2 mid size towels so asked g I r more and ended up sleeping on the towels. Tv was minuscule as was room and bathroom dated and dusty skirt boards and pictures. Stupid plug system above high up TV, no room for clothes or cases. Small kettle with only 2 plugs by bed not enough for devices! Mismatched cups saucers.. It's all tired and not worth 75£ a night. No idea re bar or meals glad to leave. Will not return or recommend

Whilst I’m not disputing the negative review from same day as my visit and overnight, it was far from my experience visiting the lawns hotel. Travelled from Hampshire to spend one night in Derby and on arrival: Assume the landlady was fantastic - genuinely felt welcome, assisted with our needing to check into the accommodation late and spent time to take us to the separate entrance to where the rooms were. She also assisted us to register our vehicle that stayed in their car park overnight. We enjoyed using their bar and service was exemplary - too often bar staff can look like they are wishing their shift to finish but the lady serving us was patient while I changed my mind and then arranged a taxi for us. The room when we returned later that evening was great - I love that the lawns hotel has quirky winding corridors and tall ceilings and are so unique and not the sterile rooms you get at chain hotels. The building must be quite old yet the decor is great, neutral tones, good sockets for chargers, plenty of towels in the very large bathroom and super comfortable bed. I could hear others walking down the corridors but with only a small amount of rooms this was not a problem and only affected me in the room as the other resident was fast asleep and I’m an insomniac. I really liked how unique the shape of the hotel room was, it was clean with lovely spacious bathroom and a window. Checking out we decided to hit the road early back to Hampshire and the hotel staff put our continental breakfast into take out containers with croissants and choc au pain in one box and a variety of butter and breakfast spreads in another. They really did go above and beyond. I would say the owners are salt of the earth - genuine characters, friendly and know good hospitality. We will totally return if we go back to derby or the surrounding areas. Smile and the world smiles with you….. working in hospitality is hard so be polite, be kind and you’ll find it returned to you at the lawns…. Great location, parking, pub and a stones throw from a convenience store (coop). Thank you for a great stay!!!

We stayed at the Lawns Hotel for one night when going to Download! We arrived well ahead of check in but the staff were happy to let us have the key early, even though the room wasn’t ready, so we could store belongings and then get in when returning late that night! Everyone was really friendly and couldn’t help enough in assisting with travel to and from the festival! We left early the following morning and again they boxed up some breakfast for us and provided takeout coffee with friendly helpfulness! We felt looked after friends rather than hotel guests! The rooms were clean and comfortable! This place is a hidden gem and can’t rate it highly enough!!

Absolutely disgusting service at The Lawns last night!! We pre ordered our food and ordered this to come out at 745pm.. 9pm our food came out, after asking the staff several times where our food was. Not one apology. No one coming to us to keep us updated to say there was a delay. Then to be told by the female manager she would deduct money from our bill for the wait. So when we went to pay we asked for the deduction to be greeted by an old man who we assume is the owner.. saying we won’t be getting a deduction, we were informed of the wait, people changed their orders etc etc etc … NONE of which are true. Why ask for a pre order and a time for the food to come out if you couldn’t fulfill this? He was so rude, he ended up getting up into my female friends face . Pointing and waving his arms around. He was SO aggressive and ended up telling her to F**K OFF as she told him his customer service and attitude was disgusting. We will never enter this building again. Then some locals outside told us he is an A*hole & like that with everyone! Never experienced such poor and disgusting behaviour before from an establishment and the female manager who offered us the deduction in the first place was just as mouthy and rude whilst stood behind him. 100% he wouldn’t have spoken to a group of men like that! Little man syndrome ! Avoid avoid avoid !!!!
