Sota Cappadocia

What a magical place! Up in the hills overlooking Urgup, with a rooftop terrace taking advantage of the view. Tastefully renovated and spacious rooms, delicious and extensive options for breakfast and best of all, Nil, acting not only as host, but guide with wonderful advice as to sights and restaurants. A great stay!

The term ‘boutique hotel’ is overused, but this gem absolutely nails the concept. Our very best accommodation experience to date in over a month of traveling through the north and east of Turkiye. Owner Nil has created something very special - a home for travelers where they feel both pampered and part of an extended family. Very stylish rooms, superb and fresh breakfast spreads, wonderful local knowledge and tips, and exceptional, discrete service (thank you Yunus - you are a gentleman!). We really did not want to leave, and almost didn’t… Thank you Nil!

Hotel Sota is a fabulous boutique property with a location that has a great view but is also easily walkable to great restaurants. The breakfast spread is incredible, not just in quality but also variety. The afternoon snacks and wine is a brilliant touch. Nil takes amazing care of you for your entire stay, arranging drivers and outings / outings in accordance with your particular interests and desires. The stars allocated to the property reflect its size, not quality. The rooms are immaculate and very high quality. This hotel should be at the very top of your list!!!

We found this little seven bedroom hotel by chance. It's been a great choice. Super nice! Superb view. Excellent bedrooms. Great service by extremely warm and welcoming staff. We highly recommend it. Ciao

This guesthouse is stunningly gorgeous and incredibly gracious. Nil (owner / operator), and her fabulous team have created a slice of paradise in a converted cave. Yes, a cave. Inherently it’s rustic, but it’s thoroughly chic and sophisticated. My partner and I stayed in #5 with a private terrace and stunning view of the landscape. It was very hot in August but Yunus (the best), kept the drinks and snacks flowing so we were perfectly comfortable. Air conditioning helped too!! Nil knows the area very well and took great care to assist with touring the local sites. A hot air balloon ride is a MUST. Also don’t miss the underground cave village and the open air museum. Two nights were perfect for us. There is a lot to see but it gets redundant quickly. Buy a museum pass if you’re planning on visiting more than 4 locations (including those in Istanbul). I suggest researching restaurants before going and figuring out transport to them in advance if needed - this was our one challenging area. Be sure to check out the nearby shop of Oytun Berktan who is the incredibly talented interior designer of the guesthouse. Great experience overall and I HIGHLY recommend it!!!!

Where to begin? We had an incredible stay at Sota for 4 nights and feel as if we have gained a new family in Cappadocia. I can genuinely say that if it hadn’t been for Sota, our stay in Cappadocia would have been entirely different, for the worse. Firstly the location- Urgup is a wonderful town, and (in our opinion) a superior base to Goreme which we found to be very touristy and crowded. While the hotel itself is beautifully decorated with incredible taste and furnishings, and it sports a lovely view over Urgup, the thing that makes Sota stand out from any other hotel/ BnB experience is by far Nil and her wonderful staff who felt like our warm, welcoming family. From the very beginning Nil was helpful and communicative via text. We were greeted by a bottle of wine to welcome us, and Nil generously bought a cake to celebrate my husband’s birthday. We enjoyed incredibly delicious breakfasts on the lovely terrace every morning. But the best part of Sota was by far Nil’s daily advice and assistance with what to do for each day. She has a passion and love of the region that is often missed by people who come just for the hot air balloons and instagram worthy views (which are both of course incredible too). Through Nil’s advice, she was able to equip us with the tools to feel confident in exploring the region in depth independently. We left each morning with a comprehensively planned out itinerary from Nil, customised to our preferences. Each morning Nil would go over our unique map with highlighters and write hand written instructions on where to go. Not only were all her recommendations for things to do spot on, her love for food was clear with all the wonderful food recommendations for some of the best food we had our whole time in Turkey! It was lovely coming back after each long day of self exploring to the wonderful team who were friendly, polite, professional and always available for anything. We can’t wait to return and wholeheartedly recommend staying at this wonderful boutique hotel for an incredible experience.
