Hotel Villa Ruimzicht

We last visited this hotel 9 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thinking of somewhere to go for a 'winter blues' break, we decided to go back for one night. Places can change, and this place certainly has! Before booking, I checked the latest reviews, and one which stuck in my mind was from a couple who were given a 'Romantic Room', which had no windows, only a tiny sky light in the roof the size of a shoe box. I remember thinking, "Do not give us that room!". So, guess what, upon arrival, we are given the same room! Absolutely appaling, not a patch on the room we had on our last visit. We went back to reception and told them we would not accept the room, so they tried to give us a standard room, which had a window, only marginly bigger than the room they tried to give us (what was the point in me booking a better room to be downgraded to a standard one??). We complained again and rejected the second room they offered. After a 15-minute wait, they offered us a 'family room', which was adequate. It wasn't the romantic room which we had wanted, but at least it had windows! We ate in the restaurant, which was good, service was a little sloppy, and the waiter tried to charge us for an extra bottle of water, but all was sorted at the end of the night. Breakfast is a joke in this hotel! You join a huge queue, with one person cooking, to get a choice of eggs, and bacon if you wish. It's like standing in a works canteen! It's definitely not worth the money!! One of our biggest complaints about this place is that there is very little management, they hire a load of teenagers and just let them run it! I don't want to be disrespectful to the youth of today, but there is no assistance, breakfast being the classic example, is it waiter service, do you join the 'queue from hell', do you get your own coffee? Nothing at all from the staff. You have to figure it out yourself! This stay was a disappointment. After having such a fantastic stay 9 years ago, it was a real letdown! Too many things were either unacceptable or just OK. For what this hotel costs, we won't be going back, which is a shame, but places and staff change.

- i arrived one o’clock in the night (i warned by phone and by email) and i stayed half an hour outside in the coldness ringing the bell and phoning but nobody opened; then suddenly turning around the hotel i saw a man laying on the bar sofas with his feet on the other sofa looking at his phone; he says the bell was not working but trying again he received a call on his phone - the bedroom was a freezer, the radiator not working, above all a window glass broken, with a lot of frozen air entering, like i showed to the employee - the shower drain was not working, and in few time my feet were totally covered from water and after that the total bathroom was completely full of water, dang and absolutely unhygienic - zero soap in the bathroom, so a terrible shower without soap, useless - 8.30 breackfast, zero croissant, they were in the hoven

Highly cosy and warm atmosphere with a super friendly staff, who is always supporting the guests. Both, breakfast and dinner are enjoyable, fresh prepared. The quality of the food is remarkable. "My" room gave me a good feeling of privacy and the bed gave me a good and relaxing night.

Our room was very nice, strange to have a bath in the bedroom but as we are married not a problem. We had booked dinner bed and breakfast, with the 6 course menu. Table reserved for 19.15 We went down to the bar at 1900 and enjoyed our complimentary glass of cava. At 1915 we were shown to our table in the restaurant, we were ignored from this point, after half an hour we were asked if we would like a drink and thats when we asked to at least see a menu! After another 15 minutes someone came and took our drinks order and we said we had booked the 6 course menu. They were very busy but that does not excuse being completely ignored. We were quite put out to have waited so long, so although the food was amazing and the staff were very attentive from that point our meal was spoiled by waiting 45 minutes, I dont think this is acceptable in a restaurant of this quality. Also when we went to sign the check they wanted to charge us for the food again, so we argued the point that it was prepaid with the booking but they would not agree, so we signed the bill to the room, which of course was correct on check out. The review should be 5star but at these prices I had to knock 2 off.
