Penmaenuchaf is a lovey inn located in the gorgeous Snowdonia/Eryri park. The setting is just breathtaking, surrounded by ancient oaks, rural roads, and winding streams. In addition there are beautiful gardens surrounding the inn. Our room, Branwen, was recently remodeled, decorated traditionally but with a bit fun and flare. It was not big, but roomy enough for a comfortable two night stay. Loved the view of the back gardens and large bathroom with soaking tub. It was all quiet, cozy and tidy, Food was outstanding. We enjoyed the Afon both nights, trying local foods such as incredible port and venison. Having tea after dinner in the gorgeous lounge was a treat. Breakfast was huge and tasty, perfect for a day of hiking. It did appear as though the hotel was not fully staffed nor is the renovation complete, but neither impacted our incredible stay. We also stumbled upon the Dyfi Distillery during our stay, highly recommend a visit there is you like gin made with local botanicals. If you go, be sure to select a remodeled room and bring rain gear. But rain on shine the Penmaenuchaf will be sure to charm you and provide an amazing setting to explore Wales.

The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful. They have just had a renovation and the bar area is wonderful. The grounds are kept impeccably and lovely for walking around. The food in the restaurant is outstanding and it’s worth visiting for this alone. Showcasing local produce with a fine dining twist. Every meal was spectacular, but the dinner was my favorite. Order anything with the local cheese! The staff were extremely kind and attentive. They highlighted local hikes and views (see pics) which were jaw dropping, who knew wales could be so beautiful! The hotel is extremely accommodating to large groups, we were with our whole family and two dogs. They make a huge effort to perfect your experience and we left extremely happy. Can’t wait to go back and take friends!

We stayed two nights, which was faultless. From friendly and helpful staff to a brilliantly executed refurbished hotel interior. The attention to detail with the finished rooms was exemplary. The setting speaks for itself, with the hotel nestled in the extremely scenic national park of Snowdonia. However, considering the grand and beautiful nature of the hotel, it had an extremely relaxed and homely atmosphere. If I was to pick the highlight of the stay it would be marvellous food. We had the eight course tasting menu. Which was faultless, from the best canapés I’ve ever had to the most delicious Venison and Pigeon you’ll have in Wales. The whole experience was outstanding, looking forward to revisiting as soon as I can.

During a short break in North Wales we stayed in three upmarket hotels - of which Penmaenuchaf was the most expensive. However, it was also the most luxurious in terms of interior decor, furnishings and upmarket ambiance. Although its exterior is not attractive the hotel enjoys a beautiful setting surrounded by gardens and extensive woodland above the Mawdacch estuary. Our guest room was quiet and stylishly furnished – with a large and comfortable bed. The staff were helpful and friendly. Unfortunately , Penmaenuchaf is badly let down by its kitchen - which promises far more than it delivers. My main course at dinner was lukewarm and had evidently been sitting around before being served to the table. The quality of the meal as a whole was disappointing and fell short of expectations. Service at breakfast the following morning was slow despite there being few other guests in the restaurant at the time. The delay seemed to be in the kitchen rather than with the waiting staff. When it arrived the cooked breakfast was no better than budget hotel standard . Looking through the bill when checking out, I discovered that the hotel found added a 10% “service charge” to the cost of the bottle of wine which had been brought to our table at dinner – and to the cost of drinks at the bar before the meal. As far as I recall, there was no mention of this additional “service charge” in the wine list. No hotel we’ve stayed in previously ( or since) has sneaked this type of hidden “service charge” into the final bill. They may make a few additional pounds this way but it leaves a very unfavourable impression of Penmaenuchaf in the minds of departing guests. We won’t be returning.

Amazing hotel in a beautiful setting with views you cannot stop looking at! A very warm welcome from Cathy who had upgraded us to a beautifully newly decorated suite. All staff were lovely and attentive. The food was second to none! With delicious dishes cooked by very talented chefs. The food was enhanced with descriptions of the dishes by the knowledgeable staff. The breakfast choice was also superb with quality produce. The grounds of this fabulous hotel are simply stunning. The whole building is beautifully decorated and is extremely warm and welcoming. On a bleak and rainy day sitting in any of the lounges will reduce stress levels to zero. Great location for exploring Wales, Will definitely be returning . A quality offering and worth every penny. P.s. get yourself a Welsh lovespoon from reception

"Everything about this hotel is of an exemplary level. Its stunning location, its warm, friendly and helpful staff and Executive Chef Dan's delicious food, for both breakfast and dinner all contribute to a perfect stay. Its modern, luxury interiors are decorated to the highest standard I have ever seen. Its bedrooms, lounges, and even the hallways and corridors are impeccable. This was easily the best hotel experience my wife and I have had in the UK ever. We will recommend the Penmaenuchaf Hotel to all our friends, which is why I can say with comfortable confidence: 'From Front-of-House Manager Christie's truly warm welcome to a heartfelt farewell, this hotel ensures your stay is memorable from start to finish.'"
