Cabana Beach Resort

The hotel has no rainy day check in procedures. Rather than allowing me to off load my few items under cover to avoid the pouring rain, security insists on you driving around to find an open bay then sending a wet trolley bucket to load my items in and then walking them through the rain. Once yourself and your luggage is completely drenched there are signs peppered around the public areas warning of the floors being slippery when wet. Absolutely bizarre. Steep narrow staircase to enter your unit. This is not a resort for the elderly or anyone with mobility concerns. However, once I was over my initial disappointment, my unit was newly refurbished and comfortable. The new restaurant on the promenade the Surf Riders is fabulous with welcoming staff and lovely views.

Cabana Beach has been our family's favourite yearly holiday destination since 1979. We had booked 3 units for family and two friends this year and upon arrival were greeted so warmly by Iain Moolman and the rest of the entertainment team. The resort had just re-opened the week before after an extensive refurbishment and was looking absolutely stunning. We were put off by sulky and rude check in upon arrival who sat behind the desk chewing gum and made us feel like he was doing us a big favour by checking us in. This was however a most unusual experience as we have never encountered such in all the years we have be going there. This however did not dampen our experience of the week ahead as we settled into our comfortable units overlooking the adult pool and immaculately maintained tropical gardens, which has spectacular views out to the warm Indian Ocean. Two restaurants serve food and cocktails around the pool while the wonderful entertainment staff keep adults and kids entertained throughout the day around the resort and two pools. The resort is located directly on the Ken o' Connor Promenade, which has direct beach access to Umhlanga's Main Beach and Bronze Beach a bit further down. The best thing about Umhlanga Rocks is that one doesn't really need a car as there are a variety of world class restaurants and shopping malls all within walking distance of the resort. As always a fantastic family holiday with lots of activities to do. Been visiting the resort since the beginning. What I love recently is Jemma's dance classes in the evening in the studio which is something new and fun to do when not relaxing at the pool. The staff and management are coming up with new ideas every year to keep us entertained and with the new refurbishments this is a certainly a world class hotel.

Terrible experience For a top class resort we were utterly disappointed No airconditioning from the 1st day Complained the entire night No one slept.. Kids are so tired and a disastrous start to a holiday Reception and maintenance useless Absolutely atrocious Such expensive accommodation to experience this terrible service and experience

Awesome holiday stay with my family. Kids were well entertained by an awesome entertainment crew. Rooms nicely upgraded, clean and comfortable. The resort is always clean and security visible. We felt safe and looked after. We will definitely return soon.

I stayed here for a week in December 2024 as a Solo traveler. The accommodation was excellent, clean and left nothing to be desired. The pools and gardens were fantastic! One pool for family with children, and another one for adults only, Perfect! Also the access to the public beach was easy and extremely close. Pool towels were available for pool and beach. Only the restaurant (next to ther beach promenade) was not inviting and guests were extremely loud - having obviously a good time. Went there only once. Thanks God there were plenty of very good restaurants in the closer neighborhood.
