Stayed here for the bank holiday weekend as we were visiting Ushaw house and gardens for the classic car show and this is 5 mins away in a beautiful village with great pub. The Bay Horse, as recommended by John the owner of the cottage. Good communication prior to arrival. Comfy bed, great rain shower, dishwasher oven and microwave. Nice little touches like a pint of milk in the fridge salt pepper and oil in the cupboard. Easy parking right outside. Clean and looked after. Definitely worth the money, and lovely village location. .

Just came back from a nice chilled weekend in a lovely cottage the hen house. Owners very friendly and helpful, pub across the road is brilliant and very well priced for drinks and food. We definitely will be returning in the future and would highly recommend it to anyone

Lovely little cottage. Very compact but big enough for two people . Very clean and good communication from host prior to arrival. There is nothing in the village but you can find restaurants and bars nearby. I believe a pub is opening there soon which will be good. My only little concern is the bed. It’s a small double and very uncomfortable. I didn’t sleep for two nights and my hubby who can sleep anywhere found it very uncomfortable too. If the bed was changed I’d give it a 10/10.

We stayed in the 1 bed cottage & our friends stayed in the 2 bed next door. They are situated in a lovely village setting, Milk in the fridge & a box of biscuits were much appreciated on our arrival. Good off street parking & a good bus service into Durham City Centre. Great, welcoming pub across the road, good food & nice atmosphere ( they do breakfast too). The cottages had every thing you need for a short stay but we all agreed that there is room for some improvements to make the cottage a little more comfortable. The soft furnishings were well worn & a little grubby, beds so uncomfortable (maybe this is personal choice but we felt the beds along with the sofas, towels & bed linen could do with replacing) the general cleanliness was ok but then you start noticing the cobwebs etc, nothing major but the attention to detail would make these cottages go from ok to luxury. In the 2 bed cottage the smoke alarm was missing. Overall we had a good stay & the village setting , the owners friendliness etc is worthy of the rating given as the points I have noted can be so easily sorted.

Booked for three adults at ‘The Stables’ Whitehouse cottages for my son’s deferred graduation. All the places in Durham were fully booked up from an early stage or far too expensive. I had previously booked a Premier Inn but saw this and thought it would be so much nicer. The owner was helpful and let us check in early so we could get changed and then head into Durham for the day. The accommodation is set in a small village with great countryside views from upstairs. The cottage was clean and well equipped, and it was nice to be able to relax with a cuppa in the downstairs living area. There is a smart bathroom upstairs, with a small shower/toilet downstairs. The shower was powerful, if a little bijou. Lovely touches from the owner, like milk, coffee, tea, biscuits, flowers etc. were available for us. If you don’t mind a little drive into Durham, this accommodation is a great option and very good value for money.

We stayed in White House loft and it was really lovely! John the owner was great when it came to booking and when I had to change the date he was very understanding and made it stress free. The house itself is in a lovely area, with a lovely pub across the road, nice walks in surrounding area and quiet area. The loft was quite large considering, with a fully stocked with utensils kitchen and comfortable sitting room and breakfast table. The bed was large and comfortable with a beautiful countryside view from the bedroom window. Large TV with Netflix etc so whether you’re looking for an outdoors visit or a comfy wall place to stay and relax this place is perfect. Parking available without extra cost also. I will definitely be back, this is now my go to place to stay in this area! I don’t think we heard a peep from the surrounding houses the full stay.
