Stayed two nights Sept 29, Sept 30 of 2022. The hotel itself is okay lots of parking and had an overall welcoming appearance upon check in. Our room was decent, beds were comfortable and the shower was an absolute dream, great pressure and heat. The constant smell of cigarette smoke was something anyone could smell walking through the hallway and should have been promptly addressed by hotel staff. The crying baby in the room next to us was just unfortunate and no fault of the hotels but that's where the smoke was originating from. Our room had some pasta and a bottle cap on the floor when we entered, not the end of the world but leaves a icky feeling. The hotel itself had NOTHING open. No bar, no restaurant and the pool was closed for maintenance. This should be something they communicate to guests prior to arrival. The power went out at the hotel on Friday night around 8pm and was still out when we checked out the following morning around 11:30am. Not the fault of the hotel however the place was completely dark, no emergency lighting what so ever. There was no hot water either. A hotel this large should have an emergency back up generator to handle a few small loads that would make the world of difference to their guests and be a relatively small investment.

Staff were amazing! Jordan the night representative was amazing and very accommodating based on what he was able to provide. He was able to help with a room selection that was better accessible for my 88 year old grandfather. We did have a mishap with our room where the lightbulb in bathroom was out. Due to late hour (we arrived after 9pm) the tech was gone for the night, so Jordan updated our room, however and I did mention this to him, the new room smelled like mildew and the carpet looked like a crime scene. There was literally stains everywhere and hair on the bathroom floor. The sheets had weird brown stains on them and apparently my grandfather’s room sheets also had a huge yellow stain on them that had to be switched out. We were in town from New York for a funeral for a family member so we did not have the time to change the room again since we were leaving the following day, but staying in that room felt very disgusting and NOT what was expected based off of the previous reviews. Also the phones in all rooms did not work and our clock in our room did not work. I specified all of these details to the manager the next morning before we left for the funeral including asking to have the room cleaned, which she apologized for and stated they would take care of it. Came back and nothing was cleaned or replaced (no new toilet paper, garbage still full and no replacement towels. Had to go back downstairs that evening when we got back) We had other family members staying in the Sonesta Morrisville location that we had to visit and that location was a complete 180 versus this poorly updated location. Sonesta keep hiring similar professional front desk staff like Jordan, but your house keeping staff and the location’s rooms needs a complete overhaul redo ASAP! Truly feel nasty after having to stay in that room and do not ever plan on staying in this hotel again.

Although the location is OK, the hotel probably has too few waiters. The hotel is not cleaned at 4 pm. There is only one waiter in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast.

We had an early morning flight and selected this hotel because they have good reviews and an airport shuttle. The hotel is great. It is older, but well maintained. The staff is excellent. They are friendly and offered us advice on dinner locations and how to use the shuttle. We discussed departure times in the morning so that we could make our 8 AM flight. We decided to depart at 6:30 AM. We asked about breakfast and we were told that we would probably be able to get something before we left at 6:30 . Unfortunately the person setting up the breakfast had other ideas. At 6:25 AM, when we were ready to leave, it appeared that everything for breakfast was set up. We picked up plates and she yelled at us that breakfast was not ready and it was before 6:30. We explained that we had a flight to catch and the shuttle driver was waiting for us. Her comment was ”that's the rules”. We asked about Grab and Go and she said that was not available. Someone needs to explain this person what customer service is. She apparently has done this before to other guests. This is why I rated a 4 instead of a 5.

The conditions are very good. The room is large, the decoration is very good, there is a car to Duke University, it is still good. Walk to some restaurants, walk to Duke University for at least 30 minutes, the road is more desolate, it is recommended to use Uber.
