Exceptionally friendly staff provide excellent service in a stunning location with beautiful rooms and top-notch facilities. However, some guests found the food and drink prices high and not cost-effective.

Gara Rock Hotel has breathtaking views that are even more stunning in person. The decor throughout the hotel is lovely and thoughtfully designed, creating a warm and cosy atmosphere. We had great customer service and very friendly staff. While food and drinks are on the pricier side, (as you would expect from a four star hotel) it was delicious and beautifully presented. Plus, there’s always the option to explore nearby dining spots. The private cinema room was an added great and unique experience. Our junior suite was bigger than expected and it was also offered at a highly competitive rate, compared to similar accommodations back in Cornwall. Just be a bit weary of the small country roads leading down to the hotel, however, the hotel is proactive about this and prior to your stay provides clear directions for the best route, to avoid unnecessary country roads.

Overall a lovely stay in an incredible location but a few opportunities for improvement. For this reason we feel “luxury” and “opulent” are a bit misleading but appreciate that this is subjective. This is based on our own views, using other hotels we’ve stayed at as a base for comparison. Ultimately we would return but would hope the management address the areas of improvement. Good - Location and views! Although you have to drive or walk to find a shop etc but that suited us fine. - Service. Overall brilliant. Welcoming and attentive when dining etc. - Peaceful. Slept very well with only the sound of the sea (if you open a window). - Breakast. Delicious, perfect temperature (often some parts are cold but the time it’s been plated) and plenty of it. - Cinema room. What a lovely touch and perfect end to our Sunday! - Driving directions on the website. We had no issues reaching the hotel. Could be better - Overall decor/design is beautiful but in need of a refresh. Eg paint chips, stained chair backs, broken furniture in the rooms, decking uneven by the spa. - Cleanliness. Dead flies, cobwebs and spiders legs in our bathroom window area. Windows all around are in need of a clean. Spa area had dead flies and cobwebs near doors. - Spa area extremely slippery, particularly in the shower area. - Customer service. Unfortunately a member of staff had a fall before my spa treatment. Whilst this cannot be avoided (and I insisted on her not proceeding as she was pregnant), I think it would have been nice for the management team to reach out and try to rearrange for another next day or at least acknowledge it. - Bedding and towels. Like I said, this is a personal preference but at a luxury hotel, I would expect high quality towels, pillows and duvets where you sink into them. Towels were scratchy and not “in the style of the hotel. - Housekeeping was a little strange. They just threw the “scatter” cushions back on the unmade bed and left a bottle of water.

We went back in August so slightly late review but I took a punt on booking this hotel after stumbling across it on the internet- it surpassed all expectations! The location is amazing but do agree with other reviews that you cannot pop out for dinner elsewhere etc as it is very remote. The staff could not be more friendly and the food in the main restaurant was amazing. The room was very clean and the views were stunning. The beach at the bottom of the cliff is clean and not too busy which was perfect- though wear good shoes for the walk back up! We went mid week and were glad to leave on the Saturday as quite a few young families turned up and kids at breakfast were not the best behaved, including one that climbed on the back of his chair which of course fell over resulting in him smacking his head on the floor and parents didn't really seem to care. One of the days we were there it was pretty dire weather but it was very relaxing to sit in the lounge with our books and a bottle champagne with nowhere to be- apart from my massage which was a real treat. This place isn't cheap but I think you do get good value for money but do try and go mid week when it's that bit quieter. Will absolutely be back one day!

Good but not outstanding. Amazing food, but limited choice. Very friendly staff (apart from Gilly on reception). Good facilities but limited of the weather if bad. Cleanliness is a bit of issue. And there are a LOT of very ridiculous “rules” that make no sense. This place is VERY remote….dont expect to be able to pop out for dinner or pop to a shop. I would go back but would lower my expectations and consider other places.

I have just returned home from a trip at the Gara Rock Hotel. I can honestly say that I did not want to leave . The views from this accommodation is breath taking and the quality of service from the staff is outstanding. They could not do enough for us. The facilities are first class and decor is bespoke and stylish. There are two pools. One outdoor heated pool which is tranquil and peaceful with plenty of sun all day and beautiful views of both the Devon countryside and the ocean. There is another indoor pool in the spa area. The treatments and spa staff are professional and experienced and the treatments are worth every penny. The food and beverage choice is extensive with both a great outdoor grill on the sunny terrace with incredible ocean views and a second A La Cart restaurant offering a more formal experience. I will definitely be returning to the Gara Rock and I would recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to have a luxury experience either for business pleasure or if looking for a wedding venue.. Special thanks to Fleur, Jed, Polly, Sofia and Amy for looking after us so well.

Luxury stay with excellent service, great breakfast and wonderful spa. Electric car charging at 22kwh also v handy. Beautiful sea views from room, dining areas and spa areas. Room was very well equipped but could have done with a chest of drawers for our clothes

Great hotel beautiful location and good standard of food . The hotel is well appointed , furnished to a good standard and feels welcoming and luxurious whilst remaining relaxed . Food is a very good standard breakfast was very good and all cooked to order , dinner in the a la carte was delicious with a well thought out menu , although would benefit from some side order options . Negatives- pillows needed to be seriously upgraded and general service needs work (over 30 minutes for your coffee /drinks at breakfast is far too long ) fix the minors and that will make it as close to perfection as is possible

Gara Rock has been on our list of places to stay for a long time and it didn’t disappoint. The hotel is lovely, it has a very relaxed feel to it. The facilities are just what you want. Our room is very cosy and comfortable with the most stunning views out to sea. The only downfall which is absolutely out of their control is the god awful roads to get to it!
