I recently visited the Glenesk Hotel Edzell for afternoon tea for a friend’s special birthday. We were shown into to delightful room in a lovely setting. The selection of sandwiches, cakes, scones and dessert was average at best. The bread was slightly hard so had obviously been sitting for a wee while. We were there for 2.5 hours and at no point did anyone come into check everything was ok or offer fresh tea/coffee. I had to go and find a member of staff to ask for this. Granted, this was provided when asked for. Our cups had some cold tea/ coffee lying in the bottom which I had to ask to be emptied. The cups were retuned unrinsed, with some cold tea/coffee still lying in the cups. We left, said bye and again no enquiry was made regarding our satisfaction. I did not want to spoil my friend’s birthday so decided not to voice my disappointment in front of her, however, had I been asked I perhaps would have. This was suboptimal in comparison to many other afternoon teas I have had especially at £32.50 per person. It certainly fell way below the high standard the Glenesk likes to portray. I called the hotel the next day to complain, spoke with the lady in charge and was assured the owner would call me back to discuss. That was now over a week ago and I have received no phone call. Extremely disappointed
