The Three Pickerels

Visited for 3 nights at the end of June. Bedroom was reasonably spacious and the bathroom was modern and well appointed with a good shower. The main problem was the room was too hot. The hotel provided a fan, which we had running all night, which probably helped a little, but the main problem was the design of the building, which soaked up the warmth of the sun. First floor rooms may be slightly cooler than those on the top floor. Breakfasts were good, although we kept having to ask for sugar and butter, which, for some reason, was not supplied on the breakfast table.
Riverside Inn

The riverside inn Ely was very clean breakfast had a lovely selection Accommodation we had room 7 which would not suit anyone who wasn’t very mobile as it is at back of property small room up very steep stairs no outlook the room was dark and had a very small wardrobe. Very clean and for a 2 night stay adequate Would stay again but not in that room.
The Nyton Guesthouse

The impressive driveway approach and building itself belied what lay within. Reception area is dull and unwelcoming. The walk to the room (9) was accompanied by a musty smell akin to an old ashtray. We'd booked into a double room but were placed in a family room. The decor was 'interesting' - some might call it quaint or characterful, I'd call it unkempt and neglected. The towels, whilst very clean and white, were all damp and had to be dried on the heated towel rack (which thankfully worked). The pictures show ceiling stains, stained and damaged bed, skirting board damage, mould in the shower room along with a pull-down blind that was growing it's own life form. Carpets throughout were old, stained and looked as old as the house. And then there was breakfast; mushrooms awash in oil, tepid beans, one hard piece of bacon, a part-cooked sausage and a poached egg that did a fine impression of a hard-boiled egg. We'd booked in for two nights but left after one as felt the place was detrimental to our health. Simply awful establishment in every respect.
The Old Hall Ely

We were looking for a quite 4 day getaway from London during the holiday season and were very happy with this hotel. Firstly, the location: surrounded by vast gardens, open spaces and located just off the A142, we could not have asked for a better place to completely re-energise and cutoff. The hotel itself was impeccable and tastefully decorated giving a warm, cozy and relaxing vibe. The reception also had an interesting collection of board games and books for our perusal near the fireplace. We were very happy with the size of the room (Octagon) and the amenities inside which included a nespresso coffee maker, a hot water bag and high end toiletries. We were warmly welcomed with a delicious complimentary carrot cake and tea and the staff were extremely courteous to make our stay comfortable. Although the food and drinks were good, the options were limited to a set menu: we had to order only grazing boards for dinner and the restaurant was closed for an event (which we understand is quite frequent given its known to be a wedding venue) in one of the days. This is something you should keep in mind given the hotel is not walking distance from Ely city.
Poets House

Wow, what an amazing day. So lucky to have been able to have our Wedding hosted by Poets House. We couldn’t have asked for more. Christine, Sara and all the team were fabulous. The service we received from all the staff was friendly, informative and helpful. At no point did it feel like it was too much trouble. The food was delicious, a number of our guests commented that it was the best wedding meal they have ever had. We cannot thank Poets House for helping to make our day the best. We shall be back regularly See you soon Warmest regards Mrs Tammy and Mr Lee Marshall
