Aparthotel Esquinzo Y Monte Del Mar

I've just returned from an inclement week in Esquinzo. It is about 90 mins in a transfer from the airport. On the southern tip. Let me commence with a comment from a staff member 'it's not just quiet here. It's dead'. On arrival at the hotel the super tardy receptionist proclaimed two things 'no English' and 'passport now'. I was then provided a single piece of A4 paper which she drew a arrow on to point me to my room. Rooms are basic. Very basic. There was a very pleasing alarm clock type drilling from building work that awoke me daily from 8am. This is if the fact that staircases and upstairs apartments running over your bedroom doesn't get you. There is a wide array of cats running free and on the one morning there was no drilling, cleaning staff awoke me at 8 to reinforce I was leaving that day (8 hours later, they provide you no departure info). There is no WiFi (reception aside). There is no information. At all. (some basic room info in your kitchen in German aside). There are no offered or advertised excursions. At all. In 'esquinzo' there is a stunning beach. There is a small friendly bar (that only sells reheated frozen pizza) a tiny mini mart and that folks is it. No shop(S) . There is a restaurant attached to another hotel who turn you away and close for long periods. The monte del Mar restaurant food is awful with service similar to the reception. Other people talk about 'walking' to the next town 'Jandia'. It is not a town. It is a collection of 4 and 5 star all inclusive hotels which if you don't have one of their bands on your wrist they don't let you in. There is a supermarket. See previous of no cafes, bars etc. It is also a miserable 25 min hike there over mostly wasteland. However, here you can get a taxi (the hotel when I asked to order one, said they had, but didn't). Near 'Jandia' there is a great beach and bar. You need to be fit and able as it's a fair slog down a mountain, but worthwhile. (best just hit Esquinzo beach and follow the beach right). The nearest town with a couple of actual cafes, bars or eateries is Morro Jable. It's €12 in a taxi. Food is available but very average. Unless you want absolute total seclusion with limited access to food, daily noise, grumpy staff and limited views from your room, then please, swerve this place.
Alua Village Fuerteventura - All Inclusive

I will try to summarise : I visited the hotel for 4 weeks to celebrate a “big” birthday. , partly I was alone Most of the time joined by other members of my family and friend. Reception / check in was lengthy as only one member of staff to deal with this for 7 of us. Most other queries involving reception also involved queuing for considerable time due to no staff. Room : I requested a sea view but the sea was only visible if I stood on tiptoes and peered over solar panels on the roof below. Several trips to reception to change room - in the end my family chose to upgrade my stay to the “my favourite club” and I was given a perfect room with beautiful sea view. Food : I cannot complain atall about the food , even after 4 weeks stay I still had choice , quality and absolutely no need to go hungry Likewise drinks - lots of choice and plentiful . No need atall to go thirsty Entertainment: as the hotel clientele is predominantly French a lot of the entertainment was geared to them. I knew this beforehand as I’d researched the hotel so was prepared. There was English included from 9.30 pm which some may find a little late. I was ok The animation team were mostly French but there were 2 members who stood out for me -Sara and Ozz -who tried so hard to keep us involved and in particular the days I was on my own really looked after me. Sara went 100 percent above and beyond to include my 7 year old granddaughter in the dancing in the evenings which made her holiday special Pools : outdoor pools freezing cold , indoor heated pool ok but the area around the pool was constantly full of puddles of water , extremely slippery and I fell on day 2 of my holiday -at 69 years old could have meant broken bones ! Thankfully I’m relatively strong boned but still made me very anxious to go in alone The lifeguard seem more interested looking at his mobile phone than keeping poolside dry Cleanliness : no problem here , everywhere was spotless an rooms cleaned towel change daily Beach : a 6/7 min walk down to beach over some rough terrain , but I managed ok . Bit of a climb back up but taken slowly if needed was fine. Lovely beach bar and sunloungers €5 cash only - wonderful sandy beach and fab waves! On the whole I had a good stay as did family and friends who came to join me over the month . (18 in total) My only reason for not giving 5/5 was the general attitude of SOME of the staff . They didn’t seem to be interested in their clients , some reception staff, most of the pool bar staff, some of the kitchen staff just didn’t seem to be interested in making us feel welcome . It sometimes felt like we were a bit of a problem being there and that was hard to understand for me. I’ve worked in hospitality and I know a smile and a warm welcome costs nothing . I was not a complainer atall I just wanted to feel valued and didn’t feel that sadly . But - 5/5 most certainly goes to Ozz and Sara 🎉🎉 they both made the difference!
Fuerteventura Princess

Fuerteventura Princess is a great hotel. It could be excellent but we had a few small service issues. The hotel itself and the facilities were fantastic. Food - great choice and always tasty. Even for our fussy eaters. However, it did seem to take a long time to clear tables and we often had to look around for a clean one. Pools - great, we used both the heated and non heated and both were okay in February temperatures and were regularly cleaned. Bars - a good choice of places to drink but the cocktail menu is almost non existent on the normal AI. Limited to Pina Colada or Tequilla Sunrise for alcoholic choices. Entertainment was limited, there were a few acts on but not every night. Room - furnished very nicely but here is where we experienced sub standard service for a 4*. Shower gel not replenished during our stay, even though we left the lid off to show it was empty. We had to take cool showers on occasions as the water was not always hot. We only had one mug between 3 of us and coffee was not replenished. The view from our room consisted of an 8 ft concrete wall, even though we could hear the ocean from behind it. The reason being they placed us just by the Adult only area when staying with children. Would I stay here again? Maybe. I've stayed in many 4* family hotels and this rates about the mid point and we had a pleasant stay overall.
